    Effect of Board Structure on Board Performance in Malawi

    Purpose: This study analyses the effect of board structure elements on board performance in Malawi, an Emerging economy. Design/Methodology/Approach: The research adopted the cross sectional survey design. Data were obtained from 174 directors drawn from board members of Malawi stock exchange listed entities, state owned enterprises, private companies and non governmental organisations. Multiple regression analysis was employed to test the impact of board structure on board performance. Findings: Results demonstrated that board structure plays a significant role on board performance. Specifically, the study found positive and significant association between board size, board diversity and board performance, but failed to find significant evidence to link board composition, CEO duality, audit committee and board performance. Implications/Originality/Value: The research outcome suggest that to improve board performance in Malawi, owners/shareholders must constitute the right board size that is also well diversified

    Behavioral Finance Factors Influence on Investment Decision Making of Individual Investors in PSX and PMEX

    Purpose: This paper explored how investors in PSX and PMEX make investment decisions that either contribute to the success of PSX and PMEX or seem irrational to them because of the same behavioral factors. Design/Methodology/Approach: This qualitative study is aiming at the examination of new features in behavioral finance by shedding light on the representative bias, availability bias, and anchoring bias as they relate to decision making among individual investors in Pakistan. This research will select Stock Broker's Individual Investors in PSX and PMEX to be the unit of analysis for the research of heuristic components. Findings: The analysis of this qualitative research explored that investor in this study use behavioral factors to make their investment decision making, but not have negative experiences using these heuristics. However, their experiences suggest that investors tend to rely on past information from companies which shows that representative heuristic effect investors decision making as well as availability heuristic in investment decision making make investors to take decision irrationally by listening to rumors and tips from broker, friends and family.     Influence of Replacement Decisions on Performance of Bungoma County, Saccos in Kenya

    Purpose: To determine the influence of replacement decisions on performance of Bungoma County, Saccos in Kenya. Methodology/Approach: This paper used correlational study design that looked at the replacement decisions and Sacco performance. The study population was 600 Sacco employees comprising of chief finance officers, chief executive officer, administrative staff and accountants. The sample drew up to240. Proportionate sampling was adopted for the study. Data was gathered through primary mode basically questionnaires. This was executed through structured questions for clarity purposes. Data was presented using tables. Data analysis factored both descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings: Results show that 54% of replacement decision influence performance of saccos, this is as shown by R2 of 0.544, Similarly that p=0.000<0.05 further indicated that replacement decision has a significant effect on performance hence rejection of null hypotheses Implications: The following recommendation was made based on the study conclusion: On Replacement decisions SACCOs should avoid outdated technology, design amicable policies and procedure

    Purpose: This study aims to see the influence of employee experience and workload on workforce agility in startup employees. Design/Methodology/Approach: This study uses a quantitative method with a population of start-up employees in Indonesia. Data were collected through employee experience questionnaires, workload, and workforce agility. The study included a sample size of 100 respondents. Data analysis was carried out using path analysis techniques. Findings: The study's results found a joint influence between Employee Experience and workload on Workforce Agility. Sub-hypothesis 1 was accepted. Namely, there was a positive and significant influence between Employee Experience and Workforce agility in Start-Up Business Actors. Sub-hypothesis two was accepted, namely a positive and significant influence between workload and workforce agility in Start-Up Business Actors. Implications/Originality/Value: As a consideration in determining policies for determining workload, employees can be agile at work coupled with positive work experience

    Purpose: The overall objective of this study was to investigate the effect of cost accounting management practice on financial performance of Public Sugar Manufacturing firms in Lake Region Economic Block, Kenya. The study was guided by accountability theory Methodology/Approach: The study used causal research design .Target population of 143 comprising of accountants, auditors and managers. This study sampled 98 respondents constituting of management accountants, auditors and general managers. Stratified random sampling technique was used. This study used questionnaires for primary data collecting. Secondary data was sought for firm size and financial performance for 2018-2022 financial years from published financial statements through secondary data collection tool. Findings: Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics thus frequencies and percentages and inferential statistics thus Pearson correlation and simple linear regression analysis. Data was presented using tables. The study found significant effect (t-statistic=7.324, p-value=0.000< 0.05) of cost accounting management practice on financial performance. This led to rejection of the null hypothesis. Implications: Public Sugar Manufacturing firms in Lake Region Economic Block should practice standard costing, target costing, activity based costing and life cycle costing measures so as to improve cost accounting management practic

    Purpose: This study explores the relationship between instructor personality, grapevine communication, and organizational commitment in the public and private education sectors of Pakistan. Specifically, it investigates how faculty personalities influence informal communication (grapevine) and their organizational commitment levels. Design/Methodology/Approach: A Structural Equation Model (SEM) employed to analyze the effects of teacher personalities on grapevine communication and organizational commitment. Data collected through a comprehensive survey from university faculty members, focusing on demographics such as age, gender, experience, salary, and qualifications. The collected data then used to build and validate the SEM model, offering a robust analytical framework for evaluating the relationships between the variables. Findings: The study reveals that faculty loyalty and commitment significantly influenced by academic communication routes, particularly informal grapevine communication, which is moderated by individual personality traits. Implications/Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature on organizational behavior, communication, and management in higher education, offering strategies to enhance job satisfaction, collaboration, and commitment among university faculty

    Purpose: The writer has the aim of researching the impact of environmental, social, and governance on the company values of company listed in Jakarta Islamic Index. Design/Methodology/Approach: This studies approach makes use of quantitative studies techniques. The information used in this research is secondary statistics. The population and samples used in this study were 60 populations by taking 20 samples of manufacturing companies in the food and beverage industry sub-sector. Findings: The test results show that the environmental and social variables do not affect company value, then governance variables have an effect on company value. Implications/Originality/Value: So it’s concluded that the environmental and social variables do not affect company value, then governance variables have an effect on company value

    Financial Leverage, Distress, and Firms Performance: Global and Local Perspective

    Purpose: This study examined the effect of financial leverage on firms’ performance. The study examined the phenomenon in the background of financial crisis. Methodology: For detailed investigation, the study selected 1879 firms from different countries of the world. In the meantime, the study selected a sample of 263 firms from domestic economy of Pakistan. Firm level secondary data of 2005-2012 were used for analysis purposes. Panel regression model is applied, and interactive dummy were added to probe the effect of leverage in crisis period. Findings: The study found a negative effect of leverage on firms’ performance. During the crisis period, leverage remained helpful to absorb the negative effect of crisis on firms selected from different countries. The similar trend for firms in Pakistan was, however not observed. Based on study results, it is concluded that the leverage plays a substantial role in firms and extreme care is needed in its adjustment. Furthermore, behaviour and dynamics of firms in Pakistan are different from many other countries. Implications: The local dynamics and circumstances should be considered in designing the capital structure of the firms.             &nbsp

    Participation of Civil Servants in Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, Tanzania

    Purpose: This study examined the behavioural factors that influence civil servants’ participation in stock exchange trading. The trading of stock can assist existing or new firms to obtain long-term and reliable financing resource easily and quickly. Thus, to improve the stock market and the economy as a whole, active participation of various players is important to increase the level of liquidity in the financial markets. Design/Methodology/Approach: A cross sectional survey of two hundred sixty-eight civil servants working in urban areas was conducted by using questionnaires with likert scale type of questions. The data was analyzed by using structural equation modeling (SEM) method. Findings: The results revealed that awareness and subjective norms are related to the respondents’ intention to participate in stock exchange trading positively. However, perceived costs, perceived risks and attitude had no significant effect on civil servants’ intentional behaviour. Implications/Originality/Value: The result implies that policy makers should plan strategies that can enhance the respondents’ awareness and involve people who can pressure the civil servants to participate in stock markets trading. Cross sectional data collected in this study may need to be examined again in future when certain variables have changed, like education background or improvement in the dissemination of stock market information
