    The Effectiveness of Basic Training on Disaster Management Pilot Program for Disaster Preparedness in Community

    Professional nurses are expected to prepare in emergency and disaster situations. Therefore, we need to prepare pre-clinical nursing students for basic disaster management. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of disaster management basic training in improving student’s preparedness to face disaster. It used experimental posttest only - nonequivalent control group design with purposive sampling and 50 students were divided into 2 groups: students who got basic disaster management training and groups of students who only received disaster materials in lectures. The average index of disaster preparedness in the treatment group (χ = 5.4500) was higher than the control group (χ = 3.7554). The result was obtained ρ = 0,000 (α = 0.05) using independent t test. This showed that the method of basic disaster management training significantly affect the level of disaster preparedness in the students. Therefore, the method can be applied for implementation of curriculum 2018 in disaster nursing lecture

    MENTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT BASED ON AUDIO-VISUAL MEDIA

    Background. Currently the development of teaching methods in nursing education more varied. It is also supported by the increased use of information and communication technology. This research aimed to develop learning media nursing care mental stress management based on audio-visual media in the form of video to utilize the program Camtasia Studio 8.4. Method. Media design process was done by using the 6 phases, stages of concept, design, collection of material, manufacture, testing and distribution. Result. The results of the development of instructional media such as video, showing that this video can be used as a learning method was applied and taught when learning activities. Discussion. Developers can use this design as the basis for the development of media-based learning audio-visual material by adding a few components as has been suggested by previous commentators.Keywords: Learning media, audio visual, camtasi

    THE PROVISON OF ORIENTATION TO THE ANXIETY LEVELS OF THE NEW PATIENT AT THE PONEK (OBGYN) GENERAL HOSPITAL JOMBANG

    Introduction. Patients who first entered hospital usually has the anxiety because of hospital environment is different with their previous environment. The aim of this study was to analyze the effectof orientation to the level of anxiety in new patient in PONEK ward general hospital Jombang.Method. The type of this research was quasy experimental study with before and after with control design. The number of sample for the experimental group was 30 people control group was 30 subjects with quota sampling method. The independent variable in this study was the orientation and the dependent variable was patient’s anxiety. Research instrument used booklet. The data were processed and analyzed with the Wilcoxon sign rank test and mann whitney test, the alternative hypothesis was accepted if p<0,05.Result. Based on the analysis was of mann whitney test p- value of 0,000 is < α 0,05 this was conclude that there was an effect of new orientation to the level anxiety level of the new patients at the  ponek ward general hospital jombang. Discussion. Health workers actively participate in providing orientation the new patients, therefore it can reduce the anxiety that occur when is admitted hospital and should be used as amandatory orientation program the new patient admission.Key word: providing orientation, level of anxiety, new patient

    Introduction: The number of juvenile prisoners who has found at the first class prison institution in Semarang is 25 people. This figure shows that increasing around 20% in compare with the previous year. Juvenile prisoners who have experienced disorder of self-concept caused in an inability in make sense of their life. The aim of this research is to describe the implementation effect of logotheraphy to the self-concept and the ability to make sense of life to the juvenile prisoners at first class prison institution in Semarang. Logotherapy is a technique to cure or reduce or alleviate the existential crises through the discovery of the meaning of life. Logotherapy is implemented in the form of counseling and oriented individual to find the meaning of life. Method: This research uses a design Quasy experiment with methods of pretest and post test in one group. Results: The results of research showed no significant effect on self-concept logotherapy with p value > α is 0.167. But there was a significant effect of the meaningfulness of life logotherapy with p value < α is 0.035.     The Effectiveness of Skills for Adolescents with Healthy Sexuality (SAHS) Program on Reducing the Risk of HIV Transmission among Adolescents

    Introduction: The number of new HIV case is increasing significantly in Indonesia as compared toother countries in South East Asia region. Unsafe sexual behaviors become the critical risk factors for HIV transmission and adolescent is one of the high-risk group of risky sexual behavior and using drug injection. However, few studies have been conducted to find out the effective intervention to reduce the risk of HIV transmission among adolescents in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of SASH program (Skills for adolescents with healthy sexuality in reducing the risk of HIV transmission among adolescents in Bandung. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was conducted at one of private high school in Bandung. The sample in this study were thirty students. Every participant completed a self-measure questionnaire of the Bahasa version, which consists of HIV-related knowledge, attitude, and behavior with 52 items. The analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis using a paired t-test. Results: Majority of them were female (76.7). We found that SAHS program significantly effective on increased the knowledge, attitude, and behavior of HIV transmission among adolescents  (p< 0.005) with mean different between pre-and post-test was 3.2, 2.19, and 1.98, respectively. Conclusions: SASH program is effective to improve knowledge, attitude, and behaviors towards HIV prevention among adolescents. Future researches are needed to improve the sustainability of the program, such as through the development of integrated peer-educator and to use technology as the delivery and promotion media.Key Words: Adolescents, HIV, Prevention, Sexual Behavior

    Introduction: HIV/AIDS as problems not only for adult, but these epidemic direct and indirect influence at children and families. Since 2005 UNICEF others seizing the initiate to against campaign with programedprevention of mother to child transmission of HIV (PMTCT). Purpose of the research to exploration practice of mother HIV/AIDS positive to prevention infection to child. Located of the research in Kudus regency Central Java. Methods: Qualitative research methods by case studies conducted In-depth interviews on twelve HIV-positive mothers werepurposively selected. The triangulation to a case manager of HIV/AID and families. Data processing used manual of the thematic content analysis. Results: The results found after diagnosed HIV status, mother's good practices as sexual safe practice, Condom used, preventive pregnancies caused psychological trauma. ART consumtive since 26 weeks of gestation for preventive infection to child.     GCS AS PREDICTOR LENGTH OF STAY THE MILD HEAD INJURY PATIENTS IN PIRNGADI GENERAL HOSPITAL MEDAN

    Introduction. Early management of head injury patient in Emergency Department will affect the outcome and Length of Stay mild head injury patient in the hospital. The research aimed to analyze GCS as predictor factors associated Length of Stay patient in the hospital. Methods. This study was correlational analytic approach with cross sectional. Technique sampling in this study used purposive sampling. The number of samples used 41 patient were taken from the primary data which doing the observations on the mild head injury patients who come to emergency department from April until June 2014 at Pirngadi General Hospital Medan. Data was collected by observation and questionnaire. Result. The results of the analysis used Spearman test showed that there was correlation between GCS with Length of Stay of mild head injury patients p 0.00, r -0,637. Discussion.     IMPLEMENTATION OF PROBLEM BASED LEARNING METHOD IN COMPETENCY BASED CURRICULA WITH STUDENT’S SOFTSKILL IN PSIK UR

    Introduction. Improving the quality of education makes a shift in educational paradigm in Indonesia. Conventional teacher-centered curricula is changing to competency-based curricula (CBC) with focus on student-centered learning. The purpose of this study was to identify relationship between the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method in CBC with students’ soft skills. Method. The study design was cross sectional correlation with 97 respondents as the sample. Analysis of the data using univariate and bivariate analysis with the test used was the chi square test. Results. The results of the study showed that there was no relationship in the implementation of PBL method in CBC with students’ soft skills (ρ = 0.646). Discussion. Based on the results, this study suggested to the academic head officer of PSIK UR to be able to evaluate periodically the implementation of CBC in order to achieve quality learning to produce students who can perform both hard skills and soft skills.     Introduction. Clinical teaching is the means by which student nurses learn to apply the theory of nursing, facilitating integration of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the clinical setting which becomes the art and science of nursing. Caring is values essential to professional practice and become socialized into the nursing profession. The purpose of this study was to explore nursing students’ experiences of caring for basic nursing skills during clinical practice in Rajawali hospital Bandung. Method. A qualitative research design was used and data were collected by in-depth interview. Six students from third semester who had completion of their fundamental of nursing clinical practice experience. Two instructors as key informants. Result. Analysis of collected information suggested that students do learn about caring in the clinical areas. Information analysis also revealed several common, such as feel fear and anxious, feel disgusted when helping defecation or bathing. Most students get the positive experience such as learning and respect of patients and their families. Most students were afraid to take nursing skills, poor theory-practice integration and feared looking foolish, had difficulty communicating and poor interpersonal relationships with the patients. The professional nurse challenges were to provide the best services and respect to the patients needs. Discussion. The results of the information analysis suggest some implications for nurse educators. Positive learning environments should be developed that enable students to retain clear caring values and to realize the potential of caring practice. Students require time to reflect about their clinical experience in order to integrate the experience with practicing sense of caring professional. Keywords: student nurses, caring, clinical practic

    The Effectiveness of Paired-Share Gallery Walk (PSGW) on Students’ Critical Appraisal Skill (CAS) Improvement During The Medical Surgical Nursing Clinical Placement

    Introductions: Less critical nurses in Indonesia may happen due to the lack of contribution of the nursing institutions in enhancing the critical thinking skill. The PSGW is one of clinical teaching methods that facilitates students to criticize the current literatures. This study aimed at identifying the effectiveness of the PSGW on students’ critical appraisal skill (CAS) improvement during the medical surgical nursing clinical placement.Methods: This quasy-experimental study used pre-posttest control group design. The subjects were students who are currently in the professional practice stage of medical surgical nursing area. They were randomly assigned into two groups: 30 subjects in intervention group who conducted PSGW and 30 subjects in control group who conducted standard method of journal presentation. CAS questionnaires developed by Oxford University had been used to measure students’ CAS in criticizing the journal. The data was analyzed using Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney, paired  t-test, and independent t-test with level of significance at 0.05.Results: The intervention group experienced a significant increase in CAS score (p=0.0001) after performing the PSGW, while the control group experienced an insignificant decrease (p=0.596) after performing the standard method of journal reading. When comparing the posttest CAS of both groups, the result showed that there were significant differences in the posttest CAS scores (p=0.0001) with large effect size (r=0.63).Conclusions: The PSGW is an effective learning method for clinical teaching. Further study needs to be performed to investigate the effectiveness of PSGW on the academic learning process
