Suitability Assessments in Higher Education: Pitfalls with the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Extended Mentoring
Advanced suitability assessments of students in higher education in Norway, consider if a student poses a potential risk to vulnerable groups in future professional practice. The purpose of this study is to examine how mentors across disciplines experience students\u27 use of artificial intelligence (AI) in extended mentoring in advanced suitability assessments, and how this impacts mentoring practices. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with four mentors and their reflection notes following mentoring sessions. Thematic analysis revealed that mentors face pitfalls when students use AI to enhance personal and professional development. It becomes difficult to uncover the students\u27 critical reflection and self-awareness, particularly in empathy and care. Findings indicate that students undergoing advanced suitability assessments may lack key competences required for professional practice, such as communication and contextual understanding. The mentees’ use of AI as a shortcut rather than as a tool has various impacts on extended mentoring practices, including reduced learning depth, reduced problem-solving skills, increased dependency on technology, and raised ethical concerns
“The path has become shorter”: Learning together in a mentoring program for supervisors
This article explores and analyzes how practice teachers experience being mentors and participating in a resource group connected to the guidance of early childhood education students in practice. The study is based on the establishment of a resource group and a mentoring program for new practice teachers, in which teachers from the university college are also actively involved. Through a qualitative approach based on data from an online questionnaire, we examine the mentors\u27 responses in light of the values and learning that can occur in partnerships and communities when student guidance is thematized.
Influences of Neoliberal Rationality on Brazilian Music Therapists’ Listening

Our society finds itself immersed in a neoliberal rationality, suffering from its influence, and altering the forms of being and interacting with the world. The objective of this research was to understand whether this rationality has influence on the listening of Brazilian music therapists. In this study, of an exploratory nature, from a qualitative perspective, the researcher conducted semi-structured interviews with Brazilian music therapists with the aim of understanding how these professionals comprehend the theme of music therapeutic listening and neoliberalism as a political, economic, and social model. From these interviews, it was noticed that the listening of music therapists is turned toward the filling out of assessment charts and the current moment of the session, paying attention to sound and music issues and the current condition of the person being assisted. Regarding the relationship between music therapy and the theme of neoliberalism, some influences of this rationality were analyzed in theway the participantsunderstand and interact with each other, reflecting on the profession and in its workspaces. The interviews with the music therapists revealed that neoliberalism rationality has an impact on the listening of these professionals, insofar as it modifies the subjectivities and the form of interpersonal relationships of all people within society.
Editorial Comment
This research article brings forth and names circumstances that are all too familiar for those of us who grew up in the so-called third world but have been conveniently erased from conversations and the way we think about identities and relationships in music therapy contexts in other latitudes of the world. What do political views have to do with the way we provide care and care for one another? How is this a part of music therapists’thinking? The authors connect these dots clearly and highlight listeningas an ethical and political attitude that behooves all music therapists caring for othersto adopt. Competent clinical supervisor – beyond just a nurse with a student in training: A qualitative study on practice supervisors\u27 experiences with further education in practice supervision
Aim. The aim of the study was to describe preceptors\u27 experiences of completing a preceptor training program, and their reflections on the importance of the training.
Method. Qualitative design. Participants were 11 preceptors who had supervisory responsibility for nursing students in parallel with completing the preceptor training program. The data collection was twofold. First, individual written data was collected via questionnaires. Ten participants responded. Thereafter nine out of these participated in a focus group discussion. Data from both the written material and the focus group discussion was analyzed by inductive content analysis. Representative quotes were used to support findings from the questionnaires.
Findings. The analysis of data from the questionnaires resulted in two generic categories: Confidence in one’s own supervision- and assessment competence and Conception of a positive supervisor identity. Data from the focus group discussion related to the significans of the preceptor training program was analyzed into three generic categories: Meaningfulness to preceptors, Developing learning environment and Ripple effects on colleagues and the work place.
The findings showed that the preceptors perceive that competence in supervision can have an impact on their professional practice. The preceptors went from being nurses who "have a student in practice" to becoming competent preceptor.
Conclusion. The preceptors in this study experienced that the education had contributed to increased professional and personal competence in supervising and assessing nursing students, and that the supervision competence can also have a transfer value to other work areas.Hensikt.
Modelling Magnetic Bonds for Di- and Triatomic Molecules in the Atmospheres of White Dwarfs
Dragging Chains
Dragging Chains moves between observation and conversation as the apparent obscurity of Grenada\u27s Jab Jab masquerade is unraveled. Shot during the 2023 carnival season, the film immerses its viewers in a sensorial spectacle of oil, chains and rhythms, while the stories told by local practitioners provide a backdrop of contemporary interpretation. As the spectacle unfolds, the initial exotic appeal gives way to deeper questions of resilience, protest and the after-effects of slavery. The film is accompanied by a written thesis of the same name, exploring themes of storytelling, resistance and national identity formation in the post-colonial context of Grenada.

Mediating the Fragmented: A Digital Compendium of Norwegian Musical Drama
The development of musical drama in Norway took place during specific cultural and economic conditions which contributed both to a sporadic performance tradition and a number of unfinished or unperformed works. The history of musical drama in Norway, then, is partly a history of that which did not take place.
The field’s archival situation remains partly opaque, with music scores, libretti, and other source materials dispersed across libraries, archives and museums; in private ownership or presumed lost. This has had historiographic consequences both for the perspective of theatre and music history studies, as well as for the performing arts.
The recently founded Society for Norwegian Musical Drama Heritage (FNMA) has initiated the creation of a digital compendium to increase the accessibility of established knowledge as well as of the historical source materials of Norwegian musical drama from the mid-1750s up to the 2nd World War.
Taking as their starting point an understanding of the dispersed history of musical drama – performed and unperformed – as an unarranged archive, or reservoir, the authors discuss the potential of a digital compendium as a cultural heritage tool
At Østfold University College, we have focused on interdisciplinary collaboration to provide a comprehensive introduction to academic writing for first-year students, emphasizing a standardized program to ensure consistency in instruction. The article is divided into two studies. Both studies aimed to improve first-year students\u27 academic writing skills by evaluating different instructional methods. The research questions for the studies were as follows:
Study 1: Can the use of pre- and post-tests in an e-learning course in academic writing help students acquire new knowledge? Study 2: How do students experience blended teaching in academic writing?
Study 1 examined whether pre- and post-tests in an e-learning course could help students acquire new knowledge in academic writing. An e-learning package was developed around eight themes: problem statement, text writing, sources, source criticism, study techniques, referencing techniques, plagiarism, and ethics. Forty-four first-year students took a pre-test of fifteen questions and received immediate feedback. After completing the instructional components for each theme, they took a post-test. Results showed significant improvement in post-tests, indicating increased understanding of the themes.
Study 2 aimed to establish a quality-assured course package combining e-learning with on-campus instruction. A Facebook group was also created for students to ask questions about academic writing. Fifty-eight first-year students completed a questionnaire containing twelve different questions related to the evaluation of the various teaching methods in the blended instruction. In study 2, the evaluation of the academic writing course revealed that all three teaching methods were perceived as important for learning
Gold Surprises Us
Gold is the cornerstone of Suriname\u27s economy, attracting many Brazilian migrants who seek to improve their lives. Building on a friendship spanning over fifteen years, miner Pretinha and anthropologist Marjo embarked on a collaborative film project focusing on gold lifeways. The film delves into the miners\u27 experiences, highlighting the quest for stability, legal insecurity and complex gender dynamics. Under the direction of Júlia Morim and Marjo de Theije, the filming took place in July 2022, at a gold mine in the Brokopondo region and in Suriname\u27s capital, Paramaribo. Gold Surprises Us explores the miners\u27 relationships with the environment and the future of their communities. By portraying the perspective of the gold miners, challenging common stereotypes of them as Amazonian bandits, this collaboration aims to humanise them and to make discussions about environmental sustainability more inclusive. The film was made as part of the international GOLDMATTERS project (http://gold-matters.org/), which investigated transformative approaches to sustainability in artisanal and small-scale gold mining across African and Amazonian countries.
