Professional supervision as a collective practice in partnerships between teacher education and schools: Perspectives on students\u27 practise placement studies and master\u27s theses
This article is based on a research and development project at a teacher education institution collaborating in partnership with schools, where professional supervision is a central focus. The aim is to contribute knowledge about supervising practices under development, exemplified through students\u27 practicum and master’s theses. Analytically, we draw on theories of supervision and partnership, which involve boundary work across institutions, while the research approach is rooted in practice-oriented and reflexive methodologies. We exemplify how staff in teacher education and schools can strengthen collaboration on supervision, how professional mentoring can be organized, and how developmental work tied to students’ master’s theses includes new mentoring roles where schoolteachers become co-mentors. Previous research highlights that partnerships across institutional boundaries hold potential for innovation but also face challenges that may hinder progress. We discuss the challenges and opportunities that arise as new practices emerge and conclude that supervision in various forms can drive partnerships and support professional development. Implications for further research and development are explored.

Living Water
The vibration of machines echoes across the desert. Ever since Jordanian nomads settled in the spectacular landscape of Wadi Rum, they have grown dependent on complex water infrastructure. The source is right below their feet, yet they still struggle to meet basic needs. In the meantime, deep water extraction feeds private large-scale farms, animates visionary development and secures the growing urban population. Bedouins, farmers and city dwellers expect to have a fair share, but digging for ‘blue gold’ unleashes an environmental time bomb. Living Water tells the story of power, exploitation and changing ecological circumstances in one of the most water-poor countries in the world
In "My journey from artistic work to artistic research" I explore differences and similarities between artistic and academic research seen from my perspective as a Norwegian actress. As a practitioner researcher I have used autoethnography to place myself and my own experiences as an actress and artistic director into an academic context in several previous academic articles. In the present article, I seek to define the differences between art and research based on my own material, and I explore how performing arts can become artistic research. I also include the methodology developed by OECD in the Frascati Manual to define research. By doing so I detect how theatre directors, actors and acting teachers like Konstantin Stanislavski used autoethnography as a method long before it was recognised as an academic theory
Community Music Therapy for Strengthening Social Cohesion in Socio-Environmental Conflicts
This study aimed to analyze the impact of a community music therapy process on strengthening social cohesion among members of the Association of Those Affected by the El Quimbo Hydroelectric Project (Asoquimbo). The research was conducted in the municipalities of Hobo and Garzón in the Huila department of Colombia, where the community is engaged in a socio-environmental conflict with the El Quimbo dam. The methodology, grounded in qualitative research with action-research and grounded theory designs, was developed in four stages: reflection-analysis, community engagement, implementation-closure, and results. The music therapy process, conducted between November 2022 and June 2023, focused on integration, participation, empathy, interaction, social relationships, communication, and expression, strengthening the community determinants of“Identity”and “Agreements.”The results suggest that community music therapy contributed to reinforcing social cohesion in this community.
Editorial Comment
This research study highlights the value of community music therapy to bolster identity and organization to support environmental protection, connecting the dots to an ecological domain that sometimes seems distant in music therapy’s impact potential. It also presents a case for music therapy’s potential for participation and community strengthening, which, from a decolonial perspective, emerges as a solution for the advancement of impoverishing sociopolitical movements focused on isolation and exploitation
Utilizing the Theory of Practice Architectures in research on mentoring and professional development: A self-study approach
Researching mentoring and professional development is a complex practice. In the past decade, the Theory of Practice Architectures (TPA) (Kemmis, Wilkinson et al. 2014) has received increased attention from researchers, particularly within the field of education. Utilizing TPA can provide understandings of complex practices by focusing on the elements constituting a practice, interaction between practices and the structures that surround them. By using Self-Study Research Design, this paper aims to highlight challenges that researchers may experience when utilizing TPA in their studies of practice. More specifically, we examine the challenges related to the use of TPA in our own research practices. Utilizing the application of TPA when scrutinizing practice in our investigation of challenges related to use of TPA (Kemmis et al., 2013; Variyan & Edwards-Groves, 2024), we intend to contribute to knowledge on mentoring and professional development research practices and consider implications for our future use of TPA.Å forske på veiledning og profesjonell utvikling er krevende praksis.
The doxa of smoking and implications for lung cancer patients: from natural and glamorous to self-inflicted and impure: From natural and glamorous to self-inflicted and impure
This paper explores the stigma associated with smoking and lung cancer patients by examining the doxical notions on which it rests and its implications for healthcare settings. Through the lens of Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of doxa, we analyse how historical advertising and anti-smoking campaigns have reshaped the image of smoking – from glamorous to self-inflicted and filthy – reinforcing a ‘stacked stigma’ characterised by impurity, self-blame, and low prestige in the healthcare sector. Lung cancer patients do not align with the healthcare sector’s ideal image of a patient who maintains a healthy body, leading to moral judgment and self-blame. This ‘stacked stigma’ also affects lung cancer patients by making them ‘guilty by association’, further complicating their interactions with healthcare professionals. This paper explores the stigma associated with smoking and lung cancer patients by examining the doxical notions on which it rests and its implications for healthcare settings. Building Bridges with Music: A Qualitative Analysis Exploring the Use of Music and Music Therapy in Peacebuilding from Different Perspectives
Background: The use of music in a peacebuilding context has increasingly gained popularity among peacebuilders, musicians, music educators, community musicians, and music therapists alike. Recent studies show that music can be a valuable tool to help facilitate peacebuilding.
Objective: Music in peacebuilding engages professionals from many different backgrounds. The aim of this study was to gather different perspectives to gain a deeper understanding of whether and how music can be used to enhance and facilitate peacebuilding. Special attention was paid to the use of music therapy.
Method: Semi-structured interviews (N = 8) were conducted with peacebuilders (N = 3), music therapists (N = 2), musicians (N = 1), and music educators (N = 2). Thematic analysis was applied to analyse the data. Findings: Three themes were analysed in detail: (1) aims of using music in peacebuilding, (2) musical frameworks, and (3) music therapy.
Discussion: Peacebuilders, music therapists, community musicians, music educators, and musicians all contributed to this research by sharing their expertise. Interestingly, the experts had similar views on how to approach the use of music in peacebuilding. Conclusion: Experts within the field should collaborate and exchange their knowledge to gain a better and broader understanding of the use and application of music in a peacebuilding setting.

“Language mixing”: Lexical borrowing in Wisconsin Heritage German
The current work examines evidence of lexical borrowing in two different audio corpora of Wisconsin Heritage German, one from 1948–1949, and the other from 2012. Six speakers across both corpora show a high rate of retention of inherited, “core” terminology, with the majority of borrowings occurring in instances where English loans fill a semantic gap in speakers’ German lexicon. The study shows first, that changes to the heritage language lexicon in a language contact context are infrequent, overall; and second, that English-origin lexemes are attested often enriching and expanding the heritage lexicon, with additional changes showing semantic shift of inherited terminology in a new environment. These data support previous work on the stability of heritage languages across generations, even through the final generation of speakers, with changes to the lexicon over time occurring in ways consistent with other contact and bilingual settings
Home care services for the elderly in urban and rural areas
The purpose of this text is to analyze and discuss whether and how local social transparent contexts and norms affect the family’s care of their elderly relatives. The empirical data is derived from the author’s PhD project. The study was conducted in the rural municipality of "Sunland", and in the urban municipality of "Briskeby". Scientifically the study is associated with and sets out from a praxeological research tradition.
Inhabitants of rural or urban areas are fundamentally similar, with comparable social mechanisms influencing their practices. Contexts, however, create different conditions that affect the interactions and practices. Analyzing empirical data against Sunland’s historical and social backdrop, it is argued that social norms regarding familial support for the elderly significantly influence care practices in transparent societies. Urban social networks are complex and scrutinized, while rural care involves more than reciprocation - it’s a strategy for the accumulation of symbolic capital within the community. These actions aren’t individual calculations but consist primarily of acquired incorporated behaviors and cognitive patterns.
