Artificial intelligence and implications for tutoring of textual work

    No full text
In the fall of 2022 OpenAI\u27s ChatGPT became publicly available. Since then, several services based on artificial intelligence (AI) have been established. In this study, we seek to shed light on how access to these tools affects students\u27 learning process and the role of the supervisor. The article is based on a survey and focus group interviews among academic staff at Norwegian higher education institutions. The study shows that AI-based tools create both challenges and opportunities. The opportunities are particularly linked to a concept of a "sparring partner", where the robot can be a conversation partner who never gets bored and offers complementary skills compared to an ordinary supervisor. The challenges are particularly linked to the uncritical use of the robots\u27 suggestions. Provided that the students remain critical of the writing robots\u27 suggestions and maintain their independence in relation to the text being produced, the study argues that process of learning can be strengthened. However, the tutor\u27s role changes when the technology can help with some of the things that tutors have previously had to help students with.Høsten -22 ble OpenAI sin skriverobot ChatGPT offentlig tilgjengelig.

Innovative Approaches to Mentoring: Towards a Common Ground for a Theoretical Framework

This conceptual article explores how the principled innovation (PI) framework can challenge and structure multi-participant co-construction of innovation processes striving to enhance quality in mentoring. In a time when innovations in education contexts are plentiful and diverse, the authors illustrate how PI can be used to benefit innovative co-construction activities. We also use an ongoing project whose goal is to develop tools for mentoring to exemplify how PI can guide and challenge innovation. The PI approach is found to offer a structure that enforces activities that involve multiple actors while being mindful of their educational needs. The approach also allows flexibility in each stage. We catalogue the benefits and posit that the framework can be suitable for a larger research and development agenda with potential to engage multiple actors such as researchers, mentors, mentees, technicians and lawyers in systematic co-construction in innovation

Mellom teori og praksis – WALK OF SHAMEs ambiente strategi

Abstract This essay explores the artistic work of WALK OF SHAME, focusing on ambient dramaturgy and methodology. Through selected works, it provides examples of how to challenge traditional theater forms and create unique audience experiences. Furthermore, the text discusses how theater studies can influence artistic practice, using historical examples to highlight the reciprocal relationship between theatrical art and theoretical perspectives. In doing so, the essay emphasizes how both art and theory together enrich the evolution of performing arts

Abstract   Abstract In this paper, I examine the content of young Norwegians’ climate concerns, as expressed in debate articles written by young people between 2016-2021. Using rhetorical analysis, I explore how the youth articulate and justify their worry and how these articulations invite specific responses. The young writers’ climate concern is either articulated as a general concern for humanity’s survival in a distant future or a concrete concern for the youths’ own and temporally close future due to political inaction to act upon climate change. The articulation of worry is primarily characterised by deliberative and epideictic rhetoric, as the audience is invited to act upon the problem addressed and confirm the values promoted by the youth. However, in some articles, the articulation of worry primarily draws the audience’s attention to the young writers’ personal emotions rather than the situation addressed

Inspiration to act or just another scary vision? A study of images accompanying news coverage of the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report in Norway and the UK

    No full text
Images are powerful communicators. They evoke feelings, raise awareness of important issues and sometimes spur people to act. A critical societal issue that may benefit from all these kinds of engagement is climate change. This paper presents a study of images accompanying news items on the current state of our climate as expressed in the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report. The items were culled from five Norwegian and five UK news sources, and the images were analysed in terms of topic and news value. Unsurprisingly, climate impact topics were common in both countries, with bush and forest fires dominating. Thus, the traditional news values of Negativity and Impact were the most important ones drawn on. More surprisingly, the Norwegian material comprised a high number of images of politicians, representing the news value of Eliteness. This topic was absent in the UK material. Pictures that may point to climate solutions, e.g. new energy sources or lifestyle matters, were only sparsely represented. Thus, the images may ensure people’s engagement with climate change through disaster scenarios, but few seem to have the potential to motivate action

    Sujet parlant et locuteur

    No full text

Hypotesetesten viser en p-verdi over 5 %.

Identifying opposition against increased carbon tax and reduced red meat consumption

    No full text
Identifying the individual characteristics that predict climate policy support can inform strategies to increase support for climate policies. This study examines how individual characteristics predict support for two policies that are central to the Norwegian Climate Plan, namely increasing the carbon tax and reducing red meat consumption. The study relies on survey data collected from a representative sample of Norwegian citizens (N=2001). The findings show that several individual characteristics negatively predict both carbon tax support and willingness to eat less red meat: 1) being less concerned about climate change, 2) having right-wing political orientation, 3) having lower trust in politicians, 4) living in rural areas, 5) having lower education, and 6) being male. Strategies to increase support for carbon tax and meat reduction should pay particular attention to these groups. Future research should address how to make climate policies more attractive among these segments of the population

Community and identity in environmental activism on Twitter: A discourse-based approach

    No full text
Online communities play an integral role in understanding environmental activist identities. Using #climatestrikeonline tweets as a case study we discuss the benefits of applying the framework of digital pragmatics (under the umbrella of discourse analysis) to study the repositories of online media texts that share the attributes of both interpersonal and mass communication (Koteyko, Nerlich, and Hellsten 2015). Our analysis draws on two arguments central to discourse-based approaches: (1) that social meanings must be analysed across different modes (e.g., by including visuals) and (2) that analysis of digital artefacts needs to consider both their content features and the contexts in which they emerge. We demonstrate how using digital pragmatics to study networked communication about climate change can help us understand how engagement and collaboration are achieved in online communities of practice
