Expectancy Grammar between Learners of Japanese and Native Speakers of Japanese
Get PDFThis study defines, the term “expectancy grammar” proposed, by Oller (1979), as the ability to process the language information, and predict the appropriate language elements for a given situation. The Japanese conditionals, BA, TO, NARA, and TARA, were used for the data analysis to investigate expectancy grammar between learners of Japanese (LJ) and native speakers of Japanese (NSJ). The participants in this study were asked to complete sentences in response to two different types of questions. The following results were obtained: 1) NSJs showed consistency when answering some questions but not all. The results were in agreement with those obtained by NSJs. 2) the higher levels of language in LJs contained fewer grammatical errors than the lower level. No grammatical errors were observed at both levels in some questions. 3) word usage was inconsistent between different questions when answered by both NSJs and LJs. LJs’ word choice completely differed from that of NSJs, based on cultural background shown only in LJs’ group.departmental bulletin pape

Get PDF본 연구는 의사소통 능력을 중시하는 교실에서도 교사들의 오류수정은 학습자들의 언어 습득에 중요한 역할을 한다는 전제로 KFL (Korean as a Foreign Language) 일본인 학습자가 구어오류수정에 대하여 어떠한 인식을 가졌는지 살펴보기 위해 설문 조사를 실시했다. 그 결과, 제 1 외국어, 제 2외국어, 교양 교육 (교양 선택 또는 비필수 과목) 학습자별로 구어오류수정에 대한 인식과 선호도가 다르다는 것이 통계학적으로 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 향후 교사와 학습자 모두가 만족하는 수업을 위해서라도 교사는 교육 현장에 맞는 구어오류수정을 해야 할 필요가 있다.departmental bulletin pape
Semantics and Pragmatic Constraints in Consecutive Interpreting
Get PDFThis paper discusses the underlying ability, which enhances interpretersʼ note-taking in consecutive interpreting (CI) in terms of the Cooperation Model proposed by Tomasello (2008). In previous studies, the issue of which ability helps consecutive interpreters facilitate note-taking in CI is still open. Through the scrutiny of professional interpretersʼ consecutive notes, it is clear that the notations are diagonally structured and reflect semantics of the original speech. Instruction and the problems of Foreign Students with Developmental Disabilities (2) : Through the Case of the Autistic Spectrum
Get PDFThis work examines the case of Student C, who was diagnosed with Aspergerʼs syndrome in the US. Student C received individual academic support from a tutor, causing various changes in Student C during a Japanese language class. These changes in Student C are reported here in terms of the studentʼs attendance rate, the studentʼs test scores, and the rate at which the student handed in homework.
The current authors provided Student C with individual academic support. This resulted in positive changes, i.e. fewer absences, improved test scores, and more frequent completion of homework, during Student Cʼs attendance in a Japanese language class.
Support from the tutor did not involve special forms of support, special learning materials, or special learning aids. Instead, support involved the textbook used in the class and handouts distributed during the class. The tutor individually reviewed what was taught during the class “once again” “with Student C” “at Student Cʼs pace.”
Student C is a student with developmental disabilities who had difficulties after arriving in Japan. In such cases, support should not take a special form or involve special materials. Instead, support should be provided by a tutor. Findings suggested that this approach allowed Student C to successfully transition to life as a student.departmental bulletin pape
