PREDICTING THE INTENTION OF SEEKING PSYCHOLOGICAL HELP AMONG EMERGING ADULTS WITH DIVORCED PARENTS USING THE THEORY OF PLANNED BEHAVIOR
This study aims to examine the factors that influence the intention of emerging adults with divorced parents to seek psychological help using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) terminology. A total of 118 participants aged 18-25 years old took part in the study. Participants completed self-report questionnaires using the Mental Health Intention Scale, Self-Stigma of Seeking Help Scale, Attitude Towards Seeking Professional Help Scale, and Stigma Scale for Receiving Psychological Help. The multiple linear regression analysis showed that the intention to seek psychological help was significantly associated with the TPB predictors. The attitude toward help-seeking was found to be the most influential predictor of an emerging adult's intention to find out psychological help. Based on the findings of this study, the interventions related to the psychological help-seeking intention should consider individual attitudes, norms, and beliefs
APPLICATION OF AUDIO-VISUAL ENTRAINMENT, BIOFEEDBACK AND FLOATING CAPSULE IN THE AREA OF PSYCHOLOGY OF HEALTH. AN INTERVIEW WITH RADOSLAV SHTEREV
As a result of the growing interest and the numerous studies, the popularity of audio-visual entrainment, biofeedback, neurofeedback methods, and the flotation capsule is currently marking a significant rise. More and more often in scientific researches, analyses and pieces of evidence are presented the audio-visual entrainment, biofeedback, neurofeedback methods, and the flotation capsule as successfully improving mental health in patients. The interview aims to present these apparatus methods, explain their characteristics and functions, and the target groups that can be treated with them. Radoslav Shterev is a certified specialist and trainer in neurotechnologies for brain stimulation and a Ph.D. student with scientific interests in applying apparatus methods to support stress resistance and recovery of mental performance after cognitive-affective loads. Radoslav Shterev reveals the benefits of the application of audio-visual entrainment, biofeedback, neurofeedback methods, and the flotation capsule in various areas related to improving mental healt
PARENTING ALLIANCE MEASURE: FACTOR STRUCTURE IN AN ARGENTINIAN SAMPLE
Parenting alliance refers to those aspects of a relationship between parents that are related to their shared parental responsibilities and are independent from their romantic bond. It reflects the way each member of the parental dyad appraises the other’s strengths and weaknesses as a parent and their joint parenting work. The Parenting Alliance Measure (PAM) was developed to measure this construct reliably, but with limited representation of minorities in its original sample. The aim of this study was to explore the factor structure and psychometric properties of a Spanish version of the complete PAM in an Argentinian sample. Two hundred twenty-seven parents from Buenos Aires completed the PAM. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was completed based on the Unweighted Least Squares estimation method with oblique promax rotation on a polychoric correlation matrix and parallel analysis as the extraction method. Statistical analysis yielded a two-factor solution retaining 18 of the PAM’s initial 20 items that explained 65% of the variance. Each factor was composed of 9 items. Factor 1 was related to respect towards the other parent and Factor 2 to the quality of their communication and teamwork. These results support the use of the PAM with Argentinian samples
OCCUPATIONAL AREA, STRESS AND COPING STRATEGIES IN THE OUTBREAK OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC
The study investigates the levels of perceived stress and coping strategies of the participants in relation to their occupation. We argue that the levels of perceived stress vary in relation to the area of occupation and that there are specific coping strategies for dealing with stress among the representatives of the different areas of occupation. The study was conducted online via the Kwiksurveys platform. The data were collected during the period of first lock down - last week of March 2020. A total number of 688 people took part in the survey. Four occupational areas were distinguished – Social work, law or politics; Education and science; Economics and business; Engineering and IT. The method used collects socio-demographic data, measures perceived stress and distinguish coping strategies. The results reveal the highest levels of perceived stress among representatives working in the area of Education and Science. They use Categorical thinking, Naïve optimism and Esoteric thinking as coping strategies significantly more often than other groups. An interesting outcome is that Emotional Coping, Behavioural coping and Superstitious thinking seem to be universal coping strategies. Possible factors underlying the stress among the representatives of the most stressed group and possible implications of the results are discussed
PUBLICATION ACTIVITY AND PROMOTION OF PSYCHOANALYSIS IN BULGARIA UNTIL THE 1940S. CONTROVERSIES BETWEEN FREUDIANS AND NON-FREUDIANS: A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
This article examines the publication activity and popularization of S. Freud's ideas by Bulgarian psychoanalytic authors who worked actively in the period of the 20s - 40s of the 20th century, when it was the peak of the psychoanalytic movement in Bulgaria. With the establishment of communist power on 9/09/1944, our country fell under Soviet influence, and the spread of psychoanalysis was prohibited; Marxist-Leninist philosophy is declared to be the only correct one. The second emphasis is related to the presentation of the discussions and controversies between Freudians and non-Freudians. The role of the journals "Philosophical Review", "Zlatorog", etc., whose editors open their pages widely for the publication of psychoanalytic writings, as well as other psychological and philosophical articles, is emphasized for the dissemination of psychoanalysis. The contribution of the great philosopher Academician Dimitar Mikhalchev in this regard is indisputable. By popularizing the psychoanalytic ideas of Freud (and much less of K. Jung and A. Adler), and also by writing their original psychoanalytic works, Bulgarian psychoanalytically oriented authors contribute to the enrichment of social and intellectual life with new ideas, values, and guidelines of thinking
PUBLISH BUT DON’T PERISH. THE SCIENTIFIC STANDARDS IN THE JOURNALS FOR HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
The article examines the state of scientific standards and the difficult inclusion of Bulgarian scientific journals in the global referencing and indexing network, as well as the need to regulate author practices through uniform criteria and normative scientific behavior, as well as the need to visualize Bulgarian science and its recognition in a broad scientific context. The focus is on case studies and issues related to humanities and social sciences journals, as the inclusion of humanities research in the global referencing system lags behind scholarly publications. The reasons for this, which lead to the unequal presence of research from the exact sciences and from the social sciences, are also examined. Based on the material from specific case studies, some problematic moments for Bulgarian journals are presented, related to the process of blind peer review, the ethics of publication and the bibliographic section
THE ACCURACY DISTORTIONS IN SELF-ASSESSMENT
This article presents the results of two algorithms analysis to verify how clear and sound could be a particular personality self-assessment. The first algorithm validated the convergence between different multidimensional personality constructs by applying the nomological network method. Central network criteria are betweenness, centrality degree, and extended influence at the matrix. On the other hand, a parallel hierarchical cluster analysis specifies the proximity between personality measures divided into two types of “strengths” and “weaknesses”. The second analytic algorithm applied is focused on socially desirability biases. By classifying twelve groups with results that are below, fit to or are above the normal distribution (M ± 1SD) compared to K-means centering coefficients two types of ranges were investigated using Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) parameters. This method was applied to assess the probability of false-positive/false-negative measurement errors. The ecological validation of the ROC analysis is also elaborated by considering “vignettes” of the eight high-schoolers that took part in the experimental self-assessment. Their final SDR scores and the measurement error risk was distributed helping evaluate the probability rate results to be overly self-enhancing or misleadin
SEXUAL ORIENTATION ATTRIBUTIONS АND CONVENTIONAL PRE-EXISTING VALUES IN THE CONTEXT OF SEXUAL MINORITIES’ RIGHTS
Attributions concerning the origins of sexual orientation are acknowledged as significant predictors of attitudes toward sexual minorities. Sexual prejudice and opposition to same-gender couple’s rights are strongly linked with support of traditional values. The current study aimed to test that attributions for sexual orientation are significantly associated with opposition to same-gender adoption rights. Secondly, this study examined if participants’ specific attitudinal characteristics reflecting support of traditional values (e.g., religiosity, political positioning) are strong predictors of sexual orientation attribution beliefs supporting the concept that attributions for sexual orientation may stem from pre-existing conventional beliefs. This exploratory, cross-sectional study was conducted from October 8 until December 20, 2020, via an online survey. A total of 119 respondents aged 18 to 48 years (Mage = 24.31; SDage = 8.36) participated in the study. Bivariate correlations were generated to explore the associations among variables of interest. Multiple regression analysis was performed to predict the influences of all variables of interest on etiological beliefs about sexual orientation. This study’s findings suggest that attitudes toward sexual minorities' rights tend to be more negative when their sexual orientation is believed to be controllable and that sexual orientation attributions conform to pre-existing context-specific conventional socio-cultural values and norms
A RASCH ANALYSIS OF PERCEIVED STIGMA OF COVID-19 AMONG NURSES IN INDONESIA QUESTIONNAIRE
This study is the first to investigate and validate the psychometric properties of the perceived stigma of the Covid-19 questionnaire among nurses in Indonesia. The respondents in the study were 2156 nurses from various regions in Indonesia (34 provinces), consisting of 613 males (28.4%) and 1543 females (71.6%). The number of nurses consisted of 300 respondents (13.9%) from the western region of Indonesia, 1825 respondents (84.6%) from the central region of Indonesia, and 31 respondents (1.4%) from the eastern region of Indonesia. The Rating Scale Model used to investigate the questionnaire's psychometric properties. The analysis results showed that the perceived stigma questionnaire met all the psychometric aspects (unidimensionality, item fit analysis, item validity, diagnostic rating scale, and reliability). Rasch Model analysis showed a value that meets all aspects measured criterion limit. Therefore, this perception stigma questionnaire can measure the perceived stigma of Covid-19 among nurses in Indonesia
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND BURNOUT SYNDROME IN GREEK TEACHERS IN REMOTE LEARNING SITUATION
Organizational changes in the educational systems around the world during the period of pandemic and post-pandemic, imposed by the distance form of education, are related to changes in the psychosocial functioning of teachers. This article presents the study of the relationship between professional burnout and emotional intelligence in a Greek sample of teachers. Dimension of Personal Achievement was found to correlate positively with all dimensions of emotional intelligence: Regulation of emotion, Other’s emotion appraisal, Self emotion appraisal, and Use of emotions. Emotional exhaustion and depersonalization in the context of burnout are negatively related to the dimensions of emotional intelligence. High emotional intelligence is significantly associated with low emotional exhaustion and a low degree of depersonalization in teachers. This study supports the predictive role of emotional intelligence concerning burnout
