Did You Get My Text? How text emojis impact perceptions of appropriateness, likeability, social dominance, and creepiness
Does the presence/absence of certain emojis impact perceptions of the sender? How do gendered combinations of sender/recipient impact perceptions of the appropriateness of emoji use?
Six text message exchanges were composed by the lab members: a text message of a burgeoning relationship and text messages between two friends, roommates, or romantic partners. In a between-subjects design text messages were presented to one group with emojis present, and the other with different emojis or no emojis at all. The gender of the dyad (male/male, female/female, male/female) was also randomized in order to examine effects of gender on perceptions of emoji use

The Good Life Through My Eyes
What is The Good Life, not a good life, is a question that has been pondered for millennia. With philosophers dating as far back as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, almost every aspect of this question has been pondered. Overtime, a variety of different principles and ideas have been created that each philosopher believes are the most important; that they believe every person should follow. However, how each individual looks at the question of what is The Good Life varies from person to person. Throughout this writing, I will be examining the principles of health, nature, and relationships which I believe are crucial to living The Good Life
A Seasonal Quartet of Quilts: A Fiber Art Reflection of Life Growing Up in Maine in Each of the 4 Seasons
In this paper I will outline the process and inspiration behind my creation of a quartet of quilts, each one based on one season which serves as a reflection of my life growing up in Maine in those seasons. I will begin by examining the societal and personal experiences that have influenced my relationship with quilt making, before moving into discussing how the COVID-19 Pandemic changed these perspectives. Next I will examine the work of fiber artist Anni Albers and how her work was influenced by WW1 and her contribution to the feminist presence in the modernist movement, how her work inspired mine, and I will draw parallels between the rebuilding of Europe in a post WW1 world, and the aftermath of Covid-19. Finally I will discuss my own work and analyze my quilts
Eavesdropping Books as Testimony: Witnessing Secondhand Crimes Against Humanity with Young Children
How do educators talk about trauma with young children? Specifically, how do they address children\u27s secondhand experiences of crimes against humanity? In this article, Cara E. Furman argues that classrooms for young children must witness these experiences. A genre of picture books that Furman terms “eavesdropping texts” offer testimony that both witnesses and invites children\u27s secondhand experiences of crimes against humanity. Here, Furman couples a close reading of the books with literary criticism and trauma theory in order to showcase the nuances of the genre and the pedagogical potential of eavesdropping books for young readers
