Piety and Cultural Identity: Research, Analysis and Treatment of Pennsylvania-German Fraktur
The treatment involved two Pennsylvania-German fraktur, which is a highly embellished folk art created by early German settlers in the United States. Digital imagining, visual examination, X-ray Fluorescence and Fourier-Transform Infrared spectroscopy aided the understanding of materials present. The technical analysis of pigments combined with research allowed for a better understanding of how these objects were created, as well as helped tailor an appropriate treatment. Ultimately, due to presence of copper and iron-based pigments, Klucel G in denatured ethyl alcohol was used to provide structural integrity to the objects. Klucel G was an appropriate adhesive choice due to its aging properties, adhesive bond strength and reversibility. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, project treatment was curtailed

Creativity, Design, and Brand in a Complex Reality: Towards an Emergent Model for Harnessing Organizational Innovation
There is a consensus in the Western world\u27s organizational (innovation) research and practice that we operate in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment. Somewhat paradoxically, the overwhelming body of research studying organizational innovation and its catalysts — creativity, design, and even brand — has been subscribed to modernist, positivistic, and deterministic philosophies, and subsequent methodologies. The present study proposed an arguably new approach: studying organizational innovation within a complex realist framework. Creativity, design, and brand were predetermined as causal forces necessary for organizational innovation events to be adopted. A case-based comparative research design was deployed, and three organizations were studied in-depth within a specific context. Results suggest that creativity, design, and brand were present and necessary for the realization of organizational innovation. Moreover, the three constructs (i.e., causal forces) were plotted on Roy Bhaskar\u27s stratified ontological model and Margaret Archer\u27s morphogenetic cycle — illuminating insights about how structure influences the agential powers and how those powers can influence structure. Arguably the most critical finding was that brand — the sub-domain least studied in conjunction with organizational innovation — was the determinant force for adopting new and useful ideas, products, services, or experiences. More and better research should follow, especially at the intersection of brand and innovation, in a complex reality. Collaboration between agents (i.e., scholars and practitioners of each field) and a ‘post-disciplinary’ approach should be encouraged to better understand, teach, and harness organizational innovation

Museums & Environmental Sustainability: Are They Doing Enough?
As the world continues to be affected by the rapid rates of climate change, institutions from every sector are transitioning to become more sustainable by reducing or eliminating their harmful habits on the ecosystem. Whether by their own accord or external pressure from current legislative action to cut carbon emissions, institutions are shifting towards a sustainable future. For museums there are additional unique reasons to adopt sustainability into various aspects with their institution. The most influential reason is that museums have a responsibility as community leaders and change makers. However, looming questions remain: Are museums doing enough? Are these cultural hubs willing improve to comply with new sustainability standards? What is preventing museums from pursing these goals? This paper aims to obtain the answers to the previous questions through extensive research on sustainability in museums as it pertains to daily operations and physical structures and investigating three museums within Buffalo, New York.
This research began with defining the term sustainability, its history, and current events that is creating this need for sustainable actions. It transitions to provide numerous sustainability practices, technologies, and programs that museums across the country have successfully implemented. I reveal my findings from interviews conducted with employees from three different museums. I provide a critique for these institutions whilst comparing them to museums nationwide and give potential suggestions on how they can improve their sustainability efforts. The purpose of this study is to hold these institutions accountable and to inspire new and creative ways to become more environmentally conscious. My hope for this research is to encourage the reader to investigate their local museums’ sustainable efforts and collaborate on possible solutions
The Technical Study and Conservation Treatment of a Silkscreen on Paper After Roy Lichtenstein
Non-Objective I (After Mondrian) is a silkscreen on paper printed in four colors (red, yellow, blue, and black) made after Roy Lichtenstein’s 1964 painting of the same name. The print arrived at the Garman Art Conservation Department tightly rolled, with significant discoloration and mechanical damage resulting from rolled storage in an uncontrolled environment that disfigured the flat, matte fields of printing ink. The before-treatment state of the object hindered the overall aesthetic appreciation of the artwork as well as its purpose as a reproduction of the painting. Multi-modal imaging and analysis using Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray Fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), and Raman microspectroscopy (Raman) were used to characterize the materials in order better understand the localized foxing and inform the treatment plan. Based on the presence of fillers in the paper and the pigmentations of the printing inks, the desired effects of aqueous treatment were limited. After washing and drying, future treatment steps were proposed to complete the conservation of the print and restore the color relationships intended by the artist
