Does Macroalgae Invasion Alter Macroinvertebrate and or Macrophyte Communities in Wetland Habitats?
Understanding the role of non-native taxa in contemporary communities remains a critical area of research in ecology. While many studies have demonstrated broad changes in macrophyte communities following invasions, each new invader potentially creates consequences for the recipient community and the functional processes within it. Additionally, it remains unclear whether interactions between macroinvertebrates and vegetation also change after the arrival of non-native plants. Macroinvertebrates play an important role in maintaining ecosystem functionality, therefore disruptions to co-evolutionary adaptations between macroinvertebrates and native macrophytes remain a concern. This study investigates patterns in macroinvertebrate richness, abundance, functional feeding group representation, as well as plant richness and total biomass across five sites in upstate New York with varying dominance by the non-native macroalgae, Starry Stonewort. As N. obtusa proportional biomass increased within a site, both plant community richness and biomass declined (P \u3c 0.001). Similarly, macroinvertebrate richness declined as the proportion on N. obtusa biomass increased (P = 0.026). The predator functional feeding group declined significantly (P = 0.044) as percent N. obtusa biomass increased, whereas other functional feeding groups were not significantly impacted. Findings suggest that this non-native macroalgae may alter some, though not all, plant and macroinvertebrate community metrics
Parent Perceptions of Elementary General Music Instruction
The purpose of this study was to explore parent perceptions of elementary general music instruction. This was a qualitative, multiple case study (Fraenkel & Wallen, 2009) in which the perceptions of elementary general music were gathered from a parent from each of the three geographical areas (rural, urban, and suburban) within Western New York. This study sought to determine how parents perceive elementary general music, as well as what types of perceptions of elementary general music exist in all geographical areas (i.e., rural, urban, and suburban districts)
Being Creative: Not an Act but a Habit
This project explores what it means to be creative, how to practice creativity, and how a creative practice can be used to bring about the change one wants to see in the world. Many theories and ideas from historical and modern scholars influenced the work. The literature review findings were synthesized to produce a practical and tangible creative practice prototype and a strategic action plan
Creating Innovating Spaces in the Classroom
This project is about how the setup and physical furniture of a classroom can promote creativity in the environment of the classroom. Students in today’s classrooms should be able to use the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) techniques in a classroom and not be hindered by the design of the physical environment. Some physical design elements for a classroom that promote creativity are having flexibility with movable furniture, simple designs, separated spaces, and which can also be enhanced with healthy movement. By adding these elements, we as teachers are creating a space that will lead to more creativity, collaboration, and cooperative learning. The purpose of this project is to look at different furniture options to promote and foster creativity. Overall, to promote creativity and to show others that the setup of a classroom does have a big impact on students\u27 success and creativity. To create a space where creativity is welcomed from the student walking through the door. To transform a traditional classroom into a collaborative and active learning space for students to foster creativity. As curriculum is changing, furniture, design and the layouts of the classrooms should also be changing to meet the demands of modern form

Creativity is increasing in popularity and demand in our 21st Century world. It is among the top five most desirable traits that employers are seeking in employees. Some educational institutions abroad have adapted a creative curriculum and have seen much success in student achievement and performance. Yet in America’s educational institutions are not with this new era of creativity. When in actual fact the majority of American schools reject and counter this concept of creativity in the classroom. There are exceptions to this statement for example Charter Schools and Montessori schools have a better reputation for incorporating innovation and creativity in their curriculum. Which is why for this project I am aiming to close this gap through developing a creative children’s book series that aligns with a creative curriculum for schools to purchase and implement into their existing programs. With the expectation that this project will yield the first prototype for the first book in the series
Can listening and performing music reduce stress in the classroom during the pandemic?
This research searches into the questions of whether listening and performing music can have an impact on stress during the pandemic. Over 200 participants were in this study and most of the students were attending the American School Foundation in grades 2 and 3. Both qualitative and quantitative data was collected to show sentiment of how music affected the moral and reduced stress in both the homeroom classroom and music classroom. Findings through the data proved to be proved to be show a trend of a general sentiment of happiness when performing music. Overall, this study could serve as a basis for further research. Recommendations would be to gather more participating classes in other grade levels, measurable devices for stress, and I would highly suggest having observations in the homeroom class during the listening portion of the research

Processes such as nutrient cycling, and primary productivity are directly linked to macroinvertebrates and their value as a food source for higher trophic levels is undeniable. Therefore, disruptions to co-evolutionary adaptations between macroinvertebrates and native macrophytes remain a concern. This study investigated patterns in macroinvertebrate richness, abundance, and functional feeding group representation, as well as plant richness and total biomass across five sites in upstate New York with varying dominance by the non-native macroalgae, Starry Stonewort (Nitellopsis obtusa).
As N. obtusa proportional biomass increased, other plant community biomass declined at two of the five locations. Starry Stonewort mass had no impact on macrophyte richness. Macroinvertebrate richness declined as N. obtusa biomass increased at two of the five sampled waterways, but increased with total vegetative biomass at one site. Functional feeding group representation differed among the sample locations, but only predators showed a significant decline as percent N. obtusa biomass increased. Increasing Starry Stonewort mass may facilitate Dreissena polymorpha expansion. These findings suggest that this non-native macroalgae may alter some, though not all, plant and macroinvertebrate community metrics
