How does social media use affect creativity?
Social media is a parasitic relationship that is more beneficial for data companies and the platforms than it is the user. However, users still reap many unexpected benefits from engaging with different socials. Through observing how users interact with the platforms and each other using a Creativity focused framework, it is quite observable social media can be an effective tool to improve one’s creativity if used properly. Social media facilitates a combination of humor and community in a way that is difficult for traditional media and community to replicate. While humor inspires positive emotion and novelty and laughter binds a community together, only social media can combine the two in a formation that provides support for those with niche interests. Despite this unique benefit, the creative benefits of social media are mirrored by their negative counterparts, specifically jealousy and envy. Any given user may experience envy of the audience and respect that comes with another user’s creativity, and this envy seems to create a barrier to entry in the minds of those who are not naturally talented content creators.
Additionally, social media comes with extremely fascinating and unique challenges, from the potential for a creator to be canceled for past social wrongs, classic cultural insensitivity in new virtual forms (ex: digital blackface) and the ever present and proliferating threat of getting content stolen. The most important aspect to recognize in this relationship between creative users and social media platforms is that personal data is harvested as a by-product of users engaging with new and creative content. Creativity on social media is incentivized then not for its own sake, but for the sake of the market and to improve the algorithm in a cylindrical process that makes creative authenticity difficult to identify
Rebranding my Cosmetics Business
The project is focused on rebranding my business by changing the name, creating a working website, as well as creating and selling different products I am passionate about. As part of the project I worked on making my Instagram page more appealing to bring in customers from all over the world, and using Instagram to promote my products. I also researched different ways to utilize platforms such as Tik Tok and Facebook to help my business become more popular. Financial Literacy among Buffalo State College Undergraduate Students
Financial literacy can be complex and difficult for college students to comprehend. Many students struggle to afford college and are faced with large amounts of student loan debt. Financial awareness needs to be addressed early on for students to make informed decisions about college costs, student debt, and financial aid. However, financial aid applications, terms and conditions, and eligibility requirements are difficult for many students to comprehend on their own. The purpose of this study is to access financial literacy among undergraduate students at Buffalo State College. A quantitative approach is used in this study by implementing a web-based cross-sectional survey via Qualtrics. All undergraduate students were invited to participate in the survey, which was designed to understand the knowledge and skills of students to manage financial resources efficiently. The study found that there is a need for financial literacy education and students are interested in increasing their financial knowledge
Screening of Near-IR Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) Dyes Using Quick Freezing-Induced AuNP Aggregates (QFIAAs).
Near-IR (NIR) surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is an emerging bioimaging technique that can be a safe alternative with a resolution better than current bioimaging techniques, such as MRI, CT, and PET. These can be hazardous with long-term exposure due to powerful magnetic fields or ionizing radiation. The success of NIR SERS bioimaging partially lies in the selection of highly sensitive NIR Raman reporters, which is essential to achieve highly resolved bioimaging from the body system. NIR Raman dyes must satisfy three important conditions: strong absorption in the NIR region, strong binding to the surfaces of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), and excellent NIR SERS activity. AuNPs have been used as vital SERS substrates, but must be aggregated to create hot-spots to produce strong SERS signals. My research has focused on the applications of QFIAAs in the screening of dye molecules with high throughput for NIR SERS bioimaging. In this talk, the effect of the capping agents on the formation of QFIAAs, the charge effect of dye molecules on their adsorption on QFIAAs, and the results of a proof-of-concept experiment on using QFIAAs to screen dye molecules for NIR SERS will be presented
