Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Creativity Education: Developing a Creative Problem-Solving Course for Higher Education
This project aims to develop an introductory college course that integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) process. Drawing on best practices for teaching CPS and the latest research of AI, the project outcomes are prototypes of a Master Course Development Document, Student Syllabus, and Lesson Plan with accompanying PowerPoint slides. The course will equip students with the knowledge and skills to apply AI techniques to the CPS process. Study on the Effect of Lipoic Acid Presence in Heptamethine Cyanine Dyes for Near-Infrared Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (NIR-SERS)
The use of Near-Infrared (NIR) Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) has recently served as a strong candidate for highly sensitive bioimaging without the use of ionizing radiation and strong magnetic fields. Given the potential of heptamethine cyanine dyes to absorb in the NIR region while retaining stability and sensitivity, recent research has focused on altering the chemical moiety at the heptamethine displacing the meso-chloride to discover novel reporter molecules with enhanced SERS signaling. Such research has determined that lipoic acidcontaining N-acetyl amino tri-carbocyanine can produce a strong SERS intensity, given the affinity of sulfur for AuNPs. Such discoveries have utilized improper reporter dye aggregation. To overcome this, a citrate-capped quick-freezing induced AuNP aggregates (QFIAA) solution is used, which potentially enhances negatively charged nanoparticle surfaces to interact with the positively charged tri-carbocyanine dyes, eliminating lipoic acid-dependent AuNP interaction. To validate this hypothesis, two sets of dye molecules are synthesized, with or without lipoic acid, and the NIR-SERS intensities after QFIAA are compared. This project highlights QFIAA as a powerful method for NIR-SERS studies of tri-carbocyanine dyes with significant enhancement of signals even the dye concentrations at 5 nM. In addition, the synthetic protocols are markedly improved compared to the literature-reported methods
Les Trésors de la Maison, or L’Amour Maternel: The Technical Study and Treatment of Previously-Restored Painting
“Mother and Children” is a painting belonging to the collection of the Garman Art Conservation Program at SUNY Buffalo State College. The painting depicts a seated woman with light skin and dark hair and two children. The painting was damaged in the past, and the image was obscured by thick layers of grime and oxidized varnish. It had also been previously treated on at least two occasions. A full technical analysis and conservation treatment was completed. The methods of analysis included multi-modal imaging, x-radiography, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, and cross-sectional analysis. The goal of the analysis was to determine the artist’s working technique, identify materials, and provide further information about the time period and construction of the painting. Material identification was also executed to inform the treatment. The painting underwent both structural and aesthetic treatment to stabilize and aesthetically reintegrate areas of the composition. The treatment successfully improved the painting both structurally and aesthetically. While the identity and provenance of the painting is unknown, due to the research and treatment undertaken the composition is established as that of mid-19th century French artist Hugues Merle

In this module, students will learn about the development of gender role and identity, and gender stereotyping in child development. Materials include an emphasis on major theories of gender development as well as contemporary research in gender diversity including transgender child development. Capstone Competition
“Do martial arts belong in the classroom?” is a question that may seem counterintuitive. Martial arts has been long known as beneficial for child development, however what has yet to be observed is how these skills translate to a classroom environment. A comprehensive martial arts education consists of three main pillars: physical fitness, self-discipline, and mindfulness meditation,and each of these skills have been independently observed to benefit student development and achievement. Through direct observation, assessments, and faculty interviews, this study will demonstrate the classroom effectiveness of character building skills historically reserved for martial arts environments, across a variety of cultures. The researcher will observe and assess two groups of students, one in Buffalo NY and one in Lusaka, Zambia. Both groups will receive mini-lessons throughout the school day in one of two domains (Physical Fitness, Mindfulness) and assessments will be given before, during, and after the lessons alongside with interviews and observations from the lead instructors
Building Resilience with Creativity: A Reflective Card Deck Prototype
The increasing complexity and adversity in today\u27s world emphasize the need for resilience as a critical skill to navigate these challenges. The World Economic Forum identifies resilience, stress tolerance, and flexibility as essential skills for thriving in the 21st century. But how can we intentionally develop resilience? Through this project, I explore the relationship between creativity and resilience and how creativity skills can be deliberately cultivated to build resilience. To achieve this, I developed a prototype of a reflective card deck that offers a unique approach to help individuals gain knowledge, make connections, explore their relationship with the skill, and practice the creativity skills. This tool is a practical and engaging way to build a reservoir of skills that can be drawn upon when facing adversity, empowering individuals to unlock their full potential and bounce back in the face of challenges. Creativity could be the superpower, allowing us to see beyond adversity and explore a world of endless possibilities
The St. Patrick Lithograph: Research, Analysis, and Treatment of a Nineteenth-Century Print
Lithographs featuring religious subject matter were not uncommon in nineteenth-century America. The print that is the focus of this research, however, is an unconventional depiction of St. Patrick from that historical period. Research into the development of lithography in Europe and its spread in the United States, as well as American lithography houses, technology, and materials helped to explain the historical context of this print. This study revealed that the object is likely influenced by the work of Currier & Ives, as well as other American and European lithographic firms. Multimodal photographic examination and analytical techniques including X- ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy and scanning, dispersive Raman microspectroscopy, and transmission Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were used to study the materials and condition. Examination of the object indicated that it had experienced a catastrophic liquid event, causing deformations and cockling in the sheet as well as disruptive brown staining in the image area. The print also displayed mysterious shiny-grey paint and bumps protruding from beneath the surface of the paper sheet. A treatment plan centered on conservation washing was proposed, however pre-treatment solubility testing and scientific analysis provided crucial information about the media and damages, indicating that washing would not be safe for the object. The treatment plan was adjusted to focus on cleaning, stabilizing structural damages, and restoring aesthetic cohesion to the lithograph. Restoration of the frame provided stable housing for the print to be transported, stored, and exhibited. Extensive analysis of the media, materials, and condition allowed the execution of a treatment plan that was safe and effective for the lithograph and its frame
