Balancing Act: An Exploration of Polarities in Personal and Professional Life

    Get PDF
This purpose of this project is to explore the concept of polarities. I have been using creative problem solving for years, but recently, I have come to realize that some of the complexities we face in our everyday lives are not actually problems to solve, but rather are polarities to manage (Johnson, 2014). By undertaking this project, I aimed to build my skill set around polarity management in order to help me develop in both my personal and professional spheres. This project allowed me to explore some of the literature of polarities as well as put the concepts into practice by creating ten polarity maps. I started with five polarity maps focused on polarities that challenge me in my personal life, and then extended the scope to explore and map five polarities that I encounter in facilitating creativity. Ultimately, this project has expanded my capacity as a creative leader and stoked the flames of my passion for learning

Creative I\u27mprint This Master\u27s project delves into the innovative concept of a Creative I’mprint and its implications for creative practitioners in fostering effective change leadership. The project aims to investigate the dynamic relationship among perception, influence, and creativity, with the goal of empowering creative practitioners to better comprehend how their creativity impacts others and leaves a lasting impression. Through the design of a comprehensive workshop and conference presentation, the project facilitates the exploration and definition of creative practitioners\u27 Creative I’mprint. Drawing from diverse theories and frameworks including emotional intelligence, lateral thinking, and self-awareness tools, the project provides a structured approach for creative practitioners to navigate their creative journey. Furthermore, the project acknowledges the challenges and limitations encountered in the pursuit of defining and embodying a Creative I’mprint, while also outlining avenues for future research and development. Ultimately, this project contributes to advancing the understanding of creativity and change leadership, offering practical insights for creative practitioners to harness their creative potential and make meaningful contributions in their respective fields

A Woman Unfolding: A Journey of Motherhood and Creativity How Inviting Play and Honoring Our Thinking Preference Strengthens Well-Being

    Get PDF
Seeking to provide a nuanced understanding of how the facets of motherhood, creativity, and wellbeing intersect and influence each other, this investigation and subsequent analysis answers the questions, How does motherhood affect creativity? and How does creativity affect motherhood? as well as their impact on creative outlook and wellbeing. Drawing on insights from the science of creativity, self-actualization, flow, and play, an understanding is curated as to how humans develop creative capacity, utilize it to foster well-being, and develop their potential for growth and evolution. The significance of play in the context of motherhood is also explored along with its impacts on the development and assimilation of cognitive and emotional intelligence. The inquiry into Maslow\u27s hierarchy of needs, which outlines the stages of human development culminating in self-actualization, is complemented with Dr. Ruth Richards\u27 research on everyday creativity. These are shown to serve a role in promoting self-actualization, particularly in motherhood, by enhancing emotional resilience and reducing stress through daily creative activities. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi\u27s concept of flow further elucidates the optimal experiences that drive personal growth and cognitive integration. Additionally, the problem-solving preferences of a small sample of mothers is examined through the FourSight Thinking Profile to add context on their creative thinking and problem-solving processes. By synthesizing these interconnected ideas—Maslow’s hierarchy, everyday creativity, flow, play, and thinking preferences—this research provides a comprehensive perspective on the mechanisms that enhance well-being and personal growth and ultimately make us human

Benefits of Fostering a Multicultural Classroom Community

    Get PDF
Through Buffalo State University’s IPDS (International Professional Development Schools), I gained experience student teaching at the International School of Siena for 8 weeks in Siena, Italy. This study explored if and how multiple cultures and student backgrounds are integrated into the classroom and the benefits of doing so. Examining how that is done at the International School of Siena, a school with students from various countries, can demonstrate the positive impact of fostering a multicultural classroom community. The results of this research would be beneficial to schools in the United States, as culturally responsive teaching can enhance the learning experience of both the student and teacher.https://digitalcommons.buffalostate.edu/ipds_research/1015/thumbnail.jp
