USING ADVANCED DATA MINING AND INTEGRATION IN ENVIRONMENTAL PREDICTION SCENARIOS
We present one of the meteorological and hydrological experiments performed in the FP7 project ADMIRE. It serves as an experimental platform for hydrologists, and we have used it also as a testing platform for a suite of advanced data integration and data mining (DMI) tools, developed within ADMIRE. The idea of ADMIRE is to develop an advanced DMI platform accessible even to users who are not familiar with data mining techniques. To this end, we have designed a novel DMI architecture, supported by a set of software tools, managed by DMI process descriptions written in a specialized high-level DMI language called DISPEL, and controlled via several different user interfaces, each performing a different set of tasks and targeting different user group
CONSENSUS AS A TOOL SUPPORTING CUSTOMER BEHAVIOUR PREDICTION IN SOCIAL CRM SYSTEMS
Social Customer Relationship Management systems represent a new area in thefield of CRM which together with rapid development of Social Networks andSocial Media has acquired strategic importance for many companies. As a responseto ongoing challenges related to growing customer expectations, in thispaper we present intelligent tools for customer behaviour prediction in SocialCRM systems. The use of the consensus approach is aimed at resolving contradictoryforecasts of customer behaviour provided by different agents working asindependent Artificial Neural Networks systems. The goal of the presented toolis to improve prediction functionality of customer behaviour
ENVIRONMENT EMULATION FOR WSN TESTBED
The development of applications for wireless sensor networks is a challenging task. For this reason, several testbed platforms have been created. They simplify the manageability of nodes by offering easy ways of programming and debugging sensor nodes. These platforms, sometimes composed of dozens of sensors, provide a convenient way for carrying out research on medium access control and data exchange between nodes. In this article, we propose the extension of the WSN testbed, which could be used for evaluating and testing the functionality of sensor networks applications by emulating a real-world environment
ABSTRACTION LAYER FOR DEVELOPMENT AND DEPLOYMENT OF CLOUD SERVICES
In this paper, we will present an abstraction layer for cloud computing, which intends to simplify the manipulation with virtual machines in clouds for easy and controlled development and deployment of cloud services. It also ensures interoperability between different cloud infrastructures and allows developers to create cloud appliances easily via inheritance mechanisms
COMPUTATIONAL APPROACH TO UNDERSTANDING AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS
Every year the prevalence of Autism Spectrum of Disorders (ASD) is rising. Is there a unifying mechanism of various ASD cases at the genetic, molecular, cellular or systems level? The hypothesis advanced in this paper is focused on neural dysfunctions that lead to problems with attention in autistic people. Simulations of attractor neural networks performing cognitive functions help to assess system long-term neurodynamics. The Fuzzy Symbolic Dynamics (FSD) technique is used for the visualization of attractors in the semantic layer of the neural model of reading. Large-scale simulations of brain structures characterized by a high order of complexity requires enormous computational power, especially if biologically motivated neuron models are used to investigate the influence of cellular structure dysfunctions on the network dynamics. Such simulations have to be implemented on computer clusters in a grid-based architecture
ENABLING GENERIC DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING INFRASTRUCTURE COMPATIBILITY FOR WORKFLOW MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
Solving workflow management system’s Distributed Computing Infrastructure (DCI) incompatibility and their workflow interoperability issues are very challenging and complex tasks. Workflow management systems (and therefore their workflows, workflow developers and also their end-users) are bounded tightly to some limited number of supported DCIs, and efforts required to allow additional DCI support. In this paper we are specifying a concept how to enable generic DCI compatibility for grid workflow management systems (such as ASKALON, MOTEUR, gUSE/WS-PGRADE, etc.) on job and indirectly on workflow level. To enable DCI compatibility among the different workflow management systems we have developed the DCI Bridge software solution. In this paper we will describe its internal architecture, provide usage scenarios to show how the developed service resolve the DCI interoperability issues between various middleware types. The generic DCI Bridge service enables the execution of jobs onto the existing major DCI platforms (such as Service Grids (Globus Toolkit 2 and 4, gLite, ARC, UNICORE), Desktop Grids, Web services, or even cloud based DCIs)
IMPROVING SOFTWARE SYSTEMS BY FLOW CONTROL ANALYSIS
Using agile methods during the implementation of the system that meets mission critical requirements can be a real challenge. The change in the system built of dozens or even hundreds of specialized devices with embedded software requires the cooperation of a large group of engineers. This article presents a solution that supports parallel work of groups of system analysts and software developers. Deployment of formal rules to the requirements written in natural language enables using formal analysis of artifacts being a bridge between software and system requirements. Formalism and textual form of requirements allowed the automatic generation of message flow graph for the (sub) system, called the “big-picture-model”. Flow diagram analysis helped to avoid a large number of defects whose repair cost in extreme cases could undermine the legitimacy of agile methods in projects of this scale. Retrospectively, a reduction of technical debt was observed. Continuous analysis of the “big picture model” improves the control of the quality parameters of the software architecture. The article also tries to explain why the commercial platform based on UML modeling language may not be sufficient in projects of this complexity
HETEROGENEOUS GPU&CPU CLUSTER FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTING IN CRYPTOGRAPHY
This paper addresses issues associated with distributed computing systems andthe application of mixed GPU&CPU technology to data encryption and decryptionalgorithms. We describe a heterogenous cluster HGCC formed by twotypes of nodes: Intel processor with NVIDIA graphics processing unit and AMDprocessor with AMD graphics processing unit (formerly ATI), and a novel softwareframework that hides the heterogeneity of our cluster and provides toolsfor solving complex scientific and engineering problems. Finally, we present theresults of numerical experiments. The considered case study is concerned withparallel implementations of selected cryptanalysis algorithms. The main goal ofthe paper is to show the wide applicability of the GPU&CPU technology tolarge scale computation and data processing
IDENTIFYING LIMITS OF SCALABILITY IN DISTRIBUTED, HETEROGENEOUS, LAYER BASED MONITORING CONCEPTS LIKE SLAte
In this paper we present the concept of a scalable job centric monitoring infrastructure. The overall performance of this distributed, layer based architecturecalled SLAte can be increased by installing additional servers to adapt to thedemands of the monitored resources and users. Another important aspect is tooffer a uniform global view on all data which are stored distributed to providean easy access for users or visualisation tools. Additionally we discus the impactof these uniform access layer on scalability
DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MOBILE GRID RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
We present a design of a Mobile Grid Resource Management System aimed at integrating mobile resources to an existing Grid infrastructure, while creating a platform for interoperability with telecommunications providers. In order to reduce the load on an existing infrastructure, we separate responsibilities and run additional features on mobile resources. Finally we present the Ikaros-EG implementation, IkarosM android application and the mobile-Grid concept. The system used for our implementation was the NCSR “Demokritos” ZEUS computer Cluster, where the Ikaros-EG framework consisting of a meta-data collector and the Ikaros-EG plug-in has been installed. The ZEUS cluster has local and Grid access to data and meta-data from numerous scientific experiments. Our objective was to incorporate the mobile resources using the NCSR Demokritos campus wireless infrastructure in order to run applications concerning accounting, statistics, or further data/meta-data formatting
