Research on the Reform of Elderly Care and Education Model under Digitalization: A Case Study of Taizhou City
Under the dual background of aging and digitalization, the needs of the elderly have gradually shifted from being singular to diverse and from basic to advanced. The urgency of bridging the digital divide among the elderly and promoting the coordinated development of aging-related initiatives with socio-economic progress has become increasingly prominent. Currently, elderly education faces issues such as inadequate resource supply, incomplete institutional mechanisms, insufficient funding for running schools, and uneven development. Taizhou has innovatively explored a practice model that integrates digital empowerment into elderly care and education, placing the elderly at the center and using digital means. By involving multiple stakeholders and fully integrating educational and elderly care resources, this model ensures the elderly’s right to integrate into an information-based society, enabling them to enjoy smart living and enhancing their quality of life and life value. This provides practical references for addressing population aging proactively
Feminist Aesthetics in Nigerian Home Movies
This paper interprets two Nigerian films, Danger Signal 1 & 2 (2004), produced and directed by Teco Benson, and Reloaded 1 & 2 (2008) produced by Juan Amechee and Desmond Elliot, as directed by Duwa Imasuen & Ikechukwu Onyeka to reveal the main strong feminist’s ideology presented vis-à-vis the implication for women’s consciousness. The obvious feminist elements are suggested which lead to the recognition and identification of the demystification of patriarchal and hegemonic strands of reasoning. The demystification of patriarchy and hegemony in the two films here is viewed along the backdrop of the global women’s rights movement which brought about new ideas concerning patriarchy. The radical feminist ideology that can be read into the films is the view that patriarchy signifies the cultural and social domination of women by men. Thus, the films question why sexual inequality persisted even after women had won their rights and achieved legal equity. Using radical feminism as the theoretical framework, this paper critiques the two films portraying female characters that have enough education, courage, strength, economic autonomy, and foresightedness to sustain their quest to break through the walls of traditional inhibitions imposed on women. The paper, therefore, is to make a clarion call on film producers and related agencies to make it a duty, using the potency of film as a genre to propagate a desired feminist agenda for gender equity and equality, which negate patriarchy and hegemony
Liberal Ideology and Its Claim of Final Form of Human Government: Explaining the Challenges Facing the Liberal Ideology
This article interrogates liberal ideology and its claim of final form of human government. The political corollary of liberal ideology is hinged on the premise of democratic ethos and notably multiparty, constitutionalism, transparency and accountability, free, fair and periodic elections and above all upholding the rule of law. Using the qualitative method approach, liberal ideology can satisfy humanity's deepest desires and has no fundamental contradictions. Its triumph has signaled the end of the protracted historical conflict that had previously prevented its growth. Because it fit the current way of thinking, liberalism received extensive prominence in the western press and academic community. Liberal ideas have been internally split and sidetracked by both important and trivial concerns for the past few years. This study explained that while liberalism and democracy usually go together, they can be separated in theory. A country can be liberal without being democratic. Britain experienced it in the eighteenth – century. A country can also be democratic without being liberal, that is without protecting the rights of individual citizens and minority citizens of the country. The study notes that the economic strand of liberalism focuses on trade. The argument of the liberal is that, trade is important, not because it prevents states from going to war, but because it may lead states to define their interests in a way that makes war less important to them. This paper, however, argues that despite the challenges of liberal ideology, Liberalism recognizes the right of free economic activity and economic exchange based on private property and markets. Since the term capitalism has acquired so many pejorative connotations over the years, it has recently become a fashion to speak of “free market economies” instead; both are acceptable alternative terms for economic liberalism.
Application of Expanded Alkire and Foster Multidimensional Poverty Index to Nigeria
An improved Alkire and Foster Multidimensional Poverty Index (MDPI) with 20 indicators clustered into seven dimensions, namely, Social Security, Water and Sanitation, Living Standard, Employment and Income, Health, Nutrition, and Education was developed and implemented with ‘mdpi function’ deployed in R Programming Language. The function computes MDPI along with useful associated measures at sub-national or context-specific levels. It was applied to data collected from 1614 respondents from 13 selected Nigerian states and the results compare favourably with existing studies. From the results obtained, the national MDPI is 0.418 but computing MDPI at National, sub-national or context-specific levels does not always give the same trend. Also, the results further reveal that states in Northern Nigeria (0.420) are more multidimensionally deprived in most of the dimensions although there are instances where states in the South (0.415) also show severe deprivation despite their level of development. In line with the findings, it is recommended that UNDP should implement this new MDPI strategy to ensure that every sector of the society is covered by development interventions. The interventions should be region and context-specific, addressing the North’s educational and employment deprivation and the South’s urban living and social protection deficiencies as well as sex, gender and religious disparities in deprivation
A Survey of Nigerian Internet English
This study offers a survey of Nigerian Internet English. Nigerian Internet English is in focus due to its multi-genre character. Specifically, the study aims to establish the status of this multi-category, multi-genus, variety of English. From a review of existing literature on the genre, this study poses a pertinent question thus: Is Nigerian Internet English a variety of Nigerian English? Deploying data from secondary sources of existing literature, this study aims to empirically demonstrate the principal language component of Nigerian Internet English and to establish its linguistic relationship with Nigerian English variety. The study is situated within variation linguistics and relevant theoretical concepts are evoked to illuminate the discussion. Specifically, the theoretical concept of common core is deployed to establish the language components of Nigerian Internet English. The study finds that the common core features of Nigerian English are fully attested in Nigerian Internet English. From the review of literature, the study distills a thesis thus: Nigerian English is a principal component of Nigerian Internet English and Nigerian Internet English is a variety of Nigerian English.
Study on the Mechanism of Elderly Education Promoting the Development of the Silver Economy
With the acceleration of China’s population aging process, the proportion of the population aged 60 and above had reached 21.1% by the end of 2023. The silver economy has become an important new driver for high-quality economic development, and its scale is expected to reach 30 trillion yuan by 2035. As a key link connecting the elderly group and the silver economy, elderly education possesses the dual attributes of public cause and industry, and plays a significant role in developing elderly human resources, guiding elderly consumption, and promoting industrial integration.By analyzing the internal connection between elderly education and the silver economy, this paper systematically deconstructs four core mechanisms through which elderly education boosts the silver economy, namely the human resource development mechanism, consumption guidance mechanism, industrial integration mechanism, and policy coordination mechanism. Meanwhile, it points out the current practical obstacles, such as the disconnection of supply-side resources, insufficient participation on the demand side, and incomplete integration mechanisms. Furthermore, from four dimensions—improving the supply system, activating potential demand, optimizing integration mechanisms, and strengthening policy guarantees—the paper puts forward suggestions on optimization paths, aiming to provide theoretical support and practical references for promoting the coordinated development of elderly education and the silver economy, as well as proactively addressing population aging
The Impact of Wealth Polarization on the Evolution of Property-Rights Institutions Between the Tang and Song Dynasty
Wealth polarization emerged as a key driver of institutional change in property rights during the Tang–Song period. As the commodity economy expanded and social wealth gaps widened, demands for clearer delineation of rights intensified. This process was characterized primarily by the spontaneous formation of order from below rather than by explicit state bestowal of legal entitlements. In land rights, although formal law did not fully recognize private ownership, customary practice generated derivative arrangements such as dian (典) and perpetual tenancy (永佃制). In labor rights, the dissolution of the ranked noble (良贱制) and the rise of tenancy and wage employment gradually freed labor from property-like status and raised productive efficiency. In the realm of operating privileges, institutions such as mai pu system (买扑制), jiaoyin (交引), and paper currency policies developed as the state farmed out the operation of monopolized goods like salt and alcohol in exchange for stable fiscal revenues, thereby fostering a nascent market for transactions in rights. Yet the evolution of these regimes remained circumscribed by the state’s predominance and fell short of establishing a universal, equal, and stable system for protecting private property—underscoring the fundamental limitations of premodern property-rights institutions
