Effect of Task-Based Learning on Secondary Students’ Academic Achievement and Interest in English Language Learning in Anambra State
This research investigated the effect of task-based learning on students’ academic achievement and interest in English language learning in senior secondary schools in Anambra State. Four research questions guided the study while four null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study employed quasi-experimental design. Specifically, the pre-test /post-test non-equivalent control group design. The population of the study consisted of 1182 senior secondary school two students from theeight public secondary schools in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. The sample size for this study comprised 90 SS2 students in Nnewi North Local Government Area. The multi-stage sampling technique was adopted. The instrument used for data collection was the English Language Achievement Test (ELAT) and the English Language Interest Scale (ELIS). Kudar-Richardson 20 (KR-20) was used to check the internal consistency of ELAT items with dichotomous choices, which yielded reliability co-efficient of .81. While Cronbach Alpha was used to determine the internal consistency of the ELIS; it yielded co-efficient 0.77. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions while Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the hypotheses. The findings revealed that the mean interest and achievement scores of students taught English Language with task-based learning method are higher than those taught using the direct teaching method; these were also significant. The finding also revealed that the mean achievement scores of male students taught using the task-based teaching method are higher than those of their female counterparts taught using the same method. Finally, there is no significant difference in the mean interest scores of male and female students in English language taught with the task-based learning Method. Based on the findings, it was recommended, among other things, that English language learning should adopt the use of TBL in teaching English Language so as to help improve the interest and achievement of students in English language

However, in the post-disintegration years, India maintained its relations with Israel like any other Asian nations. As an important nation of Asia and the world, India designates Israel as significantly important partner country and hope a better understanding in the changed contemporary regional and global geopolitics
Optimizing Technology of Drilling Fluid for Improving Logging Success Rate of Central Area of Junggar Basin
The characters of deep wells in the central area of Junggar Basin include the burial depth of the reservoir is deep, the temperature of borehole bottom is high and the middle and the lower formations are developed with hard and brittle mudstones. The Toutunhe Formation and the Badaowan Formation are full of micro fissures which frequently caused sloughing, borehole wall collapse to happen. The average well diameter expansion rate exceeds 15% and logging instruments got blocked frequently. Based on the analyses of mineral composition and physical and chemical properties, Optimized drilling fluid formula was presented after evaluation of different size plugging agents and lubricants in order to heighten tight plugging performance. The result of Pressure Transmission experiment indicates that after optimization drilling fluid can prevent or stay the pressure transmission in mudstone effectively. The formula has been applied in Well Cheng 6 and the high-temperature and high-pressure filtration loss was only 8.0mL, the average well diameter expansion rate was less than 5%. The logging success rate reached 100%, exceeding the research target of 80%. Using this formula, the goals of stabilizing borehole wall and enhancing logging success rate have been achieved
The Pre-reform Conundrum of the Gambia Public Higher Education System: A Quantitative Examination
This study examined the Gambia public higher education system in the period before the 2018 higher education reform, as referenced in the National Development Plan 2018-2021. The study relied on a sample size of 239 staff members out of the target population of 391 staff members of the four subvented public tertiary and higher education institutions in The Gambia, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and the National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority. Using both descriptive and inferential statistics in the analyses, findings revealed poor performance of all the sampled institutions in relation to governance, staffing, instructional quality and relevance, research and development and financing
Cross-Linguistic Influence on Chinese Trilingual Speakers’ Pronunciation: L2 Proficiency and Language Distance
This study investigated the cross-linguistic influence (CLI) of L2 proficiency on plosive production of Chinese trilingual speakers. Speech experiments were conducted to compare participants’ verbal production of bilabial plosives in Chinese (L1), English (L2) and Italian (L3). The results showed that the closer the (actual) language distance is, the easier the specific phonemic inventory can be acquired. The proficiency level of L2 and language distance co-effected the transfer pattern. Advanced learners in L2 performed better on the acquisition of new phonetic categories in L3 due to their richer learning experience. When it comes to L2 & L3 shared phonetic categories, L2 intermediate group received stronger CLI from L1 than L2 advanced group. The L1&L2&L3 shared phonetic categories were easily picked up by all the L3 learners in L3 production
A Corpus-based Study on the Features and Translation Skills of Conjunctions in the English Translation of Chinese Family Law
As the number of foreign friends coming to live and work in China had demonstrated an apparent upward trend, the research sets out to conduct a corpus-based analysis on conjunctions in the English translation of the Chinese Family Law through quantitative and qualitative approaches. Based on the data analysis, it could be concluded that the translation text tends to use additive and hypothetical conjunctions, but adversative conjunctions appear less frequent; the translation text presents a low diversity in additive, hypothetical and adversative conjunctions; in the translation text, additive, hypothetical, and clarifying conjunctions exhibit explicitness, while temporal, adversative, causal and continuative conjunctions represent implicitness. Then four translation skills are proposed based on the data, including “amplification” “interpretation” “ellipsis” and “sentence reorganization”
On Translation of Nonverbal Behavior in The Husband
Nonverbal communication is an indispensable part in literary text, since it usually indicates the identity and personality of characters. It is also the part that may cause misunderstanding due to cultural differences, therefore, translators should be extremely careful when dealing with nonverbal elements. As one of Shen Congwen’s most popular, and also most translated works, The Husband is such a short story with diverse nonverbal behaviors. This paper compares its three English versions (by Ching Ti, Gladys Yang and Jeffrey Kinkley) in translating nonverbal communication including appearance, silence and body language. It finds that, in terms of appearance and silence, Yang and Kinkley make explicit character’s personality or identity by choosing certain agent or process type. When translating culture-bound body language, Ching prefers literal translation, while Yang and Kinkley convert it to the nearest equivalence in target language.
Online Teaching Model Construction and Practice of College English in Post-Epidemic Period
Due to the influence of COVID-19, many colleges and universities at home and abroad have actively implemented the measures of “Classes suspended but teaching and learning are continuing”.
