Postcolonial Discourse on Ondaatje’s The English Patient
Get PDFThe English Patient (1992) is Michael Ondaatje’s most acclaimed novel to date. “Set in Tuscany, Italy, at the end of the Second World War, the novel holds readers’ attention by both the dramatic circumstances and astonishing pasts of the characters in this epic tale of the physical and emotional damage inflicted by war and love (Canadian Encyclopedia, 2013).” In The English Patient (1992), the empire is not only writing back but it is writing with sublimity and verve, from the margins to the centre using the English language which in itself is a colonial legacy. In this story, Ondaatje intertwines the past and the present through conversations between the characters as they reminisce about the past. The extradiegetic or omniscient frame narratives involve internal focalization that shifts between time and between the characters, resulting into the fragmentation of the narrative, rendering different postcolonial perspectives about the events in the story to the reader.

Study on the English Learning Motivation of Non-English Major Students
Get PDFThis study explores the connection between non-English major college students’ overall motivation for learning English and their language proficiency using the theory of learning motivation as its theoretical framework and the quantitative analytic approach. The author conducted a survey on the motivation why non-English major students choose to learn English. At last, 516 valid responses’ questionnaires were collected. The survey findings of the table were examined using SPSS24.0 data statistical analysis program. The description of quantitative analysis, included testing for consistency and validity, statistics, inferential statistics, and linear regression analysis. According to the study, SC, CT, AP, AC, and IT have a considerable positive impact on LA. It is obvious that teachers should focus on building students’ learning motivation during the foreign language teaching process in order to successfully stimulate the improvement of students’ English performance.Students who are not English majors are moderately motivated to study English. Despite the fact that the majority of students have some enthusiasm in learning English, there are a number of factors that affect their progress. On the five learning motivations, SC and CT have a big effect. The degree to which non-English majors are motivated to study English varies greatly. In terms of intrinsic motivation and performance motivation, there are overall noticeable differences between high and low level learners, but no other learning motives are significantly different. High-level students frequently achieve higher AP and IT results, while low-level students frequently achieve high SC and CT scores

Por outro lado, a interrupção dada à vida, em sentido estrito, traz situações em que ficam pendências, tais como: a destinação de bens patrimoniais, financeiros ou afetivos. E a manutenção desses bens pelo testamenteiro ou herdeiro não é uma mera obra de caridade, mas um meio jurídico essencial para proceder a uma partilha isenta; protegendo e evitando disputas sobre bens familiares, bem como para saldar quaisquer dívidas pendentes, gerenciando responsabilidades e outros fins.No entanto, devido ao desconhecimento dos indivíduos sobre como funcionam os processos de inventário, muitas vezes eles acabam perdendo prazos, incorrendo em multas, dando destino indevido às mercadorias e na hora de prestar esclarecimentos, só restam desconforto e dor para o ente querido. Assim, este estudo visa realizar uma abordagem funcionalista sobre o tema, a partir de uma revisão bibliográfica, a fim de passar noções sobre o processo de inventário e suas instruções no contexto jurídico brasileiro, bem como explicar esse procedimento para os interessados, a fim de auxiliá-los, mesmo que esteja em processo de inventário, que é obrigatório no Brasil e sua passagem é necessária para a manutenção de nossos direitos constitucionais fundamentais.Podemos concluir que quando você tem conhecimento sobre o assunto, fica mais fácil lidar com o processo de inventário, porque conhece os prazos; as mercadorias a serem trazidas para a coleta; quem pode ser o executor do processo de inventário; o que deve ser feito quando o falecido não tem bens; entre outras necessidades. As one of the core philosophers of the 19th century, his work has inspired the most influential thinkers and artists of that time.Schopenhauer believes that will is hungry.We see it all around us in the strife and suffering that pervades every aspect of life, and even in the non-living material world.Nothing exists except the will as “a thing-in-itself”and its objectification in the world as its representation.The hungry will, as a result, can only rely on their own to feed themselves.In fact, there is no prospect of lasting peace or endless will to satisfy needs, which is the basis for Schopenhauer’s moral pessimism.There is no philosophical basis for expecting the suffering in the world to be alleviated meaningfully, because the real world, as “a thing-in-itself”, will never be satisfied.The psychological objectification of the will is correspondingly caught up in a never-ending cycle of suffering and frustration in its brutal confrontations with others.All willing life will inevitably suffer, because the will must feed on itself, and through its objectification in the world as representation, it will always be opposed to itself

Through the representation of subjective violence, which is epitomized by Jake, Mike and Baylor, Shepard points out modern people’s existential despair, an impossibility and impotence of self-affirmation, the futility of finding the meaning of existence. While providing women’s paradigm of reasonable means of reaction towards violence in locating one’s selfhood, Shepard brings out the possibility of love, courage and freedom as a way of asserting one’s existence.

Analysis of the Decision-Making Process of Judges in Setting the Sentence

A total of 1063 sentences were used, handed down in 12 criminal courts in Brazil, between 2019 and 2020. Legal factors were parameterized and subjected to statistical analysis. The results indicate the use of automated systems in the decisions made by judges, with bias influence, affecting the legality and constitutionality of sentences
