On “Survivance” in Sherman Alexie’s Indian Killer
Get PDFThe development and continuation of ethnicity has always been one of the most crucial issues faced by ethnic minorities in the United States. This issue is particularly prominent in the literary works of contemporary American Indian writers including Sherman Alexie, who is a representative figure of the new generation of American Indian writers. Based on the theory of “survivance” by Gerald Vizenor, the present paper explores that in the social and cultural atmosphere where multiculturalism was hindered and minorities in America were still ostracized by a portion of mainstream whites in the 1990s, American Indians in Alexie’s Indian Killer fight against mainstream media’s smear of Indian images, the dominance of their culture by white academics and the disregard of the white government for their living conditions. This paper contends that through the representation of American Indians’ counterattacks, Alexie calls for American Indians’ resistance against the Indian stereotypes as the Other in the mainstream ideology and adherence to the subjectivity of their culture and identity in the process of integrating into the mainstream

It aims to provide valuable paths and approaches for the development of knowledge or thought. In this context, we can consider socialist core values as a type of knowledge. This study explores the understanding of socialist core values as a knowledge type from the perspective of the sociology of knowledge. It analyzes the interactive relationship between this knowledge type and the existing society, further discussing suitable educational approaches based on this understanding. Strengthening the construction and cultivation of socialist core values can be achieved through educational methods such as promoting traditional culture, optimizing the external social environment, and facilitating mutual fulfillment between educational subjects and objects
Professionalism is Needed: Importance of Conflict Management in Mass Media Organisations in Nigeria
Get PDFConflict is universal and its management needs ‘universal’ attention within and outside organisations. This study examined the causes of conflict in mass media organisation; assessed the mechanism put in place to resolve conflict in mass media organisation and effects of conflict on performance in mass media organisation. The examination used primary and secondary data. The quantitative data analysis was used to analyze data collected from respondents. The data obtained was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The study analyzed the causes of conflicts whereby it’s beneficial to them with 49%. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentages, frequency and regression analysis. The result show that low wages (57.1%), Poor Communication between Management and Worker (36.7%), poor management policies (40.8%) were mechanisms put in place to know the causes of conflict in mass media organisation. The result also revealed conciliation and mediation (49.0%). Involving staffs in decision making (59.2%) were strategies put in place to resolve conflict in mass media organisation. The study concluded that conflict in any organisation affect the aims and objectives of the organisation if it is not properly resolved or managed

Universally, it emerges as the primary conceptualization for COVID-19 across nations. Nevertheless, certain Western media explore alternative metaphors, wary of potential adverse effects, while Chinese news media steadfastly embrace the WAR metaphor in pandemic coverage. Drawing on Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT), this article qualitatively analyzes the phenomenon. Conclusively, the study reveals deep-seated historical, cultural, and social contextual motivations, evident in China's distinct war history, collectivist values, and the pandemic situation. This exploration sheds light on the unique discourse of Chinese media on pandemic response, aiding global understanding and contributing to metaphor in cultural and news discourse research
Understanding of Chinese Consumer Behavior at Community Stores: The Case of Wal-Mart
Get PDFAs living standards and consumption power increase, consumers’ purchasing power grows, becomes more diverse and complex, causing the community stores to react creating value for communities facing massive challenges. This paper is based on quantitative and qualitative methods, using both questionnaires and grounded theory. The objective of the research was to discover the rationale of Chinese consumers consumption patterns at Wal-Mart, and to map the influencing factors conditioning consumer behavior at Wal-Mart. Our study identifies five influencing factors, including pragmatic awareness, personalization, online store, word of mouth as well as engagement and experience. The study also targets the problems existing in consumer behavior (such as low engagement for its membership and fraud issues) to offer managerial recommendations for community stores to enhance consumer engagement, enhance customer’s satisfaction and consolidate their loyalty

Meanwhile, the application of relevant documentaries to the foreign language classes in universities will be explored so as to further realize the contemporary value of ceramic culture documentary, with the hope to strengthen the cultural confidence of young students and promote the foreign exchange and dissemination of Jingdezhen ceramic culture
Research on the Problem of Old-Age Care in China From the Perspective of Ethics
Get PDFThe elders are an important driving force for economic development, social progress and national prosperity. The care of the elderly, as a universal world problem, is related to their dignity, human rights and social stability. Since 2000, China has stepped into the threshold of an aging society. With the increasing aging population and the influence of population, economy, culture, politics and other uniquely national conditions, the conflicts and problems over providing for the aged are more complicated and severe. It has become an urgent issue in China how to solve a series of ethical dilemmas of providing for the aged caused by the aging population.Firstly, we use the data of the 2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) for positivist research, and then adopt the ordered Probit regression model for analysis. Secondly, we present and discuss the existing ethical problems of providing for the aged in society: firstly, the unfairness of allocation of resources in the society for providing for the aged; secondly, the dilution of concept of filial piety in family; thirdly, the weakening of the trend of respecting the elderly in society; last but not least, the lack of good in old-age security system. In view of the above-mentioned ethical problems of providing for the aged in China, we propose some solutions, namely, fairly distributing old-age resources in society; promoting the cultural tradition of filial piety; improving the system of endowment policy. Focusing on the ethical issues of old-age care, this paper provides some ethical thoughts for the solution of them
Principals Communication Skills and Administrative Effectiveness in Secondary Schools in Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria
Get PDFThis study examined the principal communication skills and school effectiveness in public secondary schools in Ilorin West Local Government, Kwara State. The purposes of the study include to investigate: the relationship between communication skills and principals administrative effectiveness in Ilorin West Local Government, Kwara State. The research design used for this study was a descriptive survey. The sample of the study includes 265 out of 1385 respondents selected through proportional sampling technique. Self-designed questionnaire titled “Principals Communication Skills and Administrative Effectiveness Questionnaire was used to obtained necessary data from the respondents. Descriptive statistics of percentage was used to answer research questions and. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was used to test the hypotheses formulated. The findings of the study showed that there was a significant relationship between principal communication skills and administrative effectiveness. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that, Ministry of Education and All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) should regularly organize training on communication skills for school principals. This will expose principals to various communication skills and that can be adopted in schools. Secondary school principals in Ilorin West LGA of Kwara State must know when to use open communication skill and when to use inclusive communication skill for administrative effectiveness meaning that school principals should be conscious of type of communication to be adopted depending on the situation at a given time

The digital economy has an important driving effect on improving innovation efficiency, promoting industrial transformation and upgrading, and giving birth to new business formats, and has become a new driving force for the high-quality development of national independent innovation demonstration zones. On the basis of analyzing the driving effect of the digital economy and the characteristics of high-quality development of the national independent innovation demonstration zone, the role mechanism model of the high-quality development of the national independent innovation demonstration zone based on the digital economy is constructed, and the high-quality development process of the digital economy promoting the industrial transformation and upgrading, the optimization of the allocation of innovation factors, and the improvement of the innovation supply system of the national independent innovation demonstration zone are explored. In order to achieve the strategic goal of high-quality development of the national independent innovation demonstration zone, it puts forward countermeasures and suggestions that should improve the construction of digital infrastructure, strengthen the optimization of digital system, train and introduce digital talents, promote the integration of digital economy and real economy, and accelerate the process of digital industrialization
