Continuous Professional Development (CPD) constitutes a valuable source of training for language teachers to enhance their teaching-related knowledge and skills and update their instructional practices, with online CPD activities playing a fundamental role in facilitating in-service teachers’ accessibility and participation. In response to the recent call to understand how teachers continue their professional development in teaching and considering the significant dearth of studies on teachers’ participation in online CPD activities in Moroccan EFL secondary schools, this study aims to investigate the extent to which teachers participate in online CPD activities and examine the role of their participation in these activities in enhancing their instructional practices. This study adopts a cross-sectional quantitative research design. An online self-report questionnaire was administered to 120 EFL Moroccan secondary school teachers to collect data. This study yields interesting findings. First, most EFL teachers participate in online CPD activities using mainly Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), E-mail, and YouTube. Second, online CPD activities play a crucial role in supporting teachers in implementing innovative teaching strategies, using differentiated instruction, integrating ICT tools, facilitating constructive feedback provision, and encouraging their engagement in reflective practices. This study concludes with several implications and research recommendations for EFL teachers

China’s 14th Five-Year Plan addresses ecological degradation, resource depletion, and economic issues by proposing a “dual cycle” strategy. Green finance gains importance in this context. The plan focuses on upgrading the industrial structure, aligning with supply-side reform for higher-quality development. Research shows that green finance can guide funds towards eco-friendly sectors, aiding industrial optimization. Shandong Province, a pilot zone for energy conversion, plays a crucial role in achieving carbon neutrality. Studying how green finance drives industrial upgrading in Shandong holds practical and academic value. The paper outlines: explaining green finance and industrial structure theories, analyzing their interplay, assessing Shandong’s green finance and structural progress, empirical analysis of 2010-2021 data, and offering development recommendations based on findings

    Get PDF
This study investigates the impact of the Joint State Local Government Account (JSLGA) system on governance in local governments, focusing on Esan West Local Government Area in Edo State, Nigeria. Utilizing a descriptive survey design, the research engaged 262 respondents selected from a population of 1,200 local government officials and stakeholders. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire employing a 4-point Likert scale, assessing perceptions of financial autonomy, transparency, and governance effectiveness. The analysis, conducted using SPSS version 21, included percentage analysis and correlation tests. The findings reveal a significant negative correlation between the JSLGA system and financial autonomy (r = -0.78, p < 0.01), indicating that increased state control diminishes local governments' financial independence. Furthermore, the analysis demonstrated a positive correlation between transparency in fund allocation and local governance effectiveness (r = 0.65, p < 0.05), suggesting that enhanced transparency fosters improved governance outcomes. Additionally, a positive correlation was identified between financial autonomy and governance effectiveness (r = 0.40, p < 0.05), supporting the notion that empowering local governments financially can lead to better service delivery. The study concludes that reforms in the JSLGA system are crucial to enhancing financial independence and transparency, thereby improving local governance effectiveness and enabling local governments to better address community needs. Recommendations include constitutional amendments for direct federal access to allocations, increased transparency measures, and greater financial autonomy for local governments

Research on Curriculum Reform for the Teaching of Silicate Petrology Based on the ‘Two Properties and One Degree’ Standard to Establish Multi-Element Coordinated Coupling

    Get PDF
Silicate Petrography is a foundational course in the field of inorganic non-metallic materials. Traditional teaching methods for this course often involve a large volume of content, abstract concepts, and complex theories, which can be difficult for students to grasp. Addressing these challenges through a blended online and offline teaching model has become a key objective in the current curriculum reform for Silicate Petrography. In response, the course has been redesigned based on the “Two Properties and One Degree” standard, with a student-centered approach. The course objectives and content modules have been restructured to enhance its “high-level” nature. Diverse and “innovative” teaching elements, along with secondary construction of implementation modules, have been seamlessly integrated. Additionally, a multi-level assessment and evaluation system, referred to as the “challenge” module, has been developed and implemented. These efforts aim to achieve comprehensive goals in knowledge, skills, and personal development. After being implemented in teaching practice, the redesigned course has shown promising results, providing a valuable reference and model for the reform of other engineering courses at our university and across the province

This paper presents an empirical study of success and failure factors in policy implementation on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) education and its implications. A total of 2,900,000 IDPs housed in government recognized camps in Nigeria and 24 Desk Officers in-charge of IDPs in the Ministries of Education of the States under study were used. Three research questions were raised and answered using qualitative approach to analyze the data. The major findings are that IDPs of school age in North Central had low access to education; in the North East and North West, they had moderate access but they had high access to quality and inclusive education in South-South. The extent of policy practice of IDPs’ education was moderate in North Central, North West and in South-South but the extent of policy practice in the North East was high; because, the policy dictates were strictly followed. The success of the policy implementation in the Northern part of the country were: IDPs’ access to education, conducive and safe environment for learning and integration; while the failure aspect of the policy implementation was poor access to education. In South-South, success area of policy implementation include access to education and care for girl-child peculiarities, while the down side of the policy implementation in this region was poor integration of IDPs. Therefore, it was concluded that the extent of policy practice of IDPs’ education was moderate in North Central, North West and in South-South but high in North East because of the strict compliance with the policy dictates

    Review Technological Turn in Interpreting

    Get PDF
This paper takes a bird-eye review of technology in interpreting studies (IS). The goal is to assess the advent of a “technological turn” by examining to what extent technology has transformed IS both within existing paradigms and expanded existing borders. The results show that although technology has permeated existing sub-disciplines in interpreting, their adoption and interaction between frameworks are not extensive enough. Therefore, although a technological turn is underway, it is far from complete

Colonial Echoes Beyond Borders: Unveiling Orientalism in Michael Ondaatje’s The English Patient

    Get PDF
Michael Ondaatje’s The English Patient (1992) is a profound exploration of the enduring legacies of colonialism, memory, and identity, set against the backdrop of World War II in the North African desert. This paper analyzes the novel through the lens of Edward Said’s seminal work Orientalism (1978), arguing that Ondaatje critiques the binary opposition between East and West, revealing the complexity and fluidity of colonial and postcolonial identities. Through its fragmented narrative structure and the portrayal of characters such as the enigmatic English patient and Kip, a Sikh sapper, the novel critiques Orientalist stereotypes, deconstructing traditional colonial narratives. The desert motif symbolizes the intersection of memory, war, and cultural displacement, serving as a space of both Western fantasy and Eastern mystique. This paper argues that The English Patient interrogates colonialism’s lasting effects while presenting the postcolonial experience of trauma and identity fragmentation. Ultimately, Ondaatje’s text compels readers to question the persistence of colonial ideologies and how they shape historical and cultural narratives.
