Heart Neighbors Art Café Business Plan

    No full text
Heart Neighbors Art Café is a unique establishment that combines a coffee shop with an art gallery, aimed at creating a vibrant cultural hub in the Wenshan District of Taipei City. Our mission extends beyond serving delicious coffee and providing a comfortable environment; we aspire to foster community cohesion and cultural exchange through the power of art. The philosophy of Heart Neighbors Café is to use coffee to open the heart doors between strangers and art as a means of self-expression. Through respect, inclusivity, and attentive listening, individuals accompany each other, bringing warmth to every lonely soul. The fusion of art and coffee shops traces its roots back to mid-19th-century Paris, where cafes became arenas for intellectuals, artists, thinkers, and politicians to debate and exchange ideas, discussing and propelling historical transformations. The three main factors that contributed to the allure of Parisian cafes for emerging artists in the 19th century can be summarized as follows: Firstly, cafés provided a unique atmosphere of freedom, allowing individuals to speak freely, express their viewpoints, and find like-minded companions. This environment led to the formation of different schools of thought and organizations. Secondly, cafes transitioned from being an exclusive privilege of the aristocracy to becoming part of the daily life of the common people. They became gathering places for individuals from various professions, providing artists with a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and the collision of creative energies. This shift allowed artists to move from solitary studio work to a collaborative and vibrant café environment. Thirdly, cafes became a wellspring of inspiration for artists, serving as spaces for observation of the surrounding world and the behaviors of others. As both observers and expressers, artists found in cafes a setting to draw inspiration for their creations

The Spirit of Female Modernity rejoices in the empowering synergy of women and art modernist aesthetics. It focuses mainly on the work of female artists, designers, musicians, and fashion brands that break several epochs and media. The goal is to motivate by illustrating how women in diverse artistic and design fields embraced and, in some cases, reinterpreted the language of modernist art to reflect their period\u27s concept of modernity. This carefully curated exhibition highlights the new and thought-through role that women artists embarked on in helping to shape the history of art through the modernism lens of feminist practice. It provides an engaging exploration of how such figures infused freedom, independence, and invention into their artistic creation and hence opens a provocative new perspective on modernist aesthetics. The exhibition will feature a collaborative display of six female artists. The artworks on display at the archives include architect and furniture designer Florence Knoll Bassett\u27s works, product designer Marianne Brandt, graphic designer Cipe Pineles, musician and composer Ruth Crawford Seeger, contemporary painter Chen Ke, and fashion from the Chinese fashion designer Yang Lin from Yearly Plan brand. Despite the disparity of fields and forms through which these six women expressed themselves as artists, their pioneering contributions to a female modernist aesthetic in their respective times foster a sort of commonality that carries with it a sense of community and purpose. 3 The exhibition space is set in classic modernism-inspired architecture in Shanghai is an interactive experience architecture designed by Yearly Plan brand. The place is designed as an exhibition area but is integrated with retail and a designer showroom by using interactive elements in its space. It invigorates dialogue of the works displayed with their context, therefore inviting the public to a dynamic and interactive acquaintance with the idea of female modernity. Sponsored by Yearly Plan, the exhibition features displays of Florence Knoll Bassett furniture supplied by Knoll Design, Marianne Brandt product designs from Maison Wave Gallery, and Cipe Pineles graphic designs printed by the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. The main exhibition area will replicate the modernism style of 20th Century’s interior decoration, the space will be created using those designers’ 20th Century artworks. The exhibition also features the oil paintings Bauhaus Gal series by Chen Ke. This portrait collection is from the spirit of pioneering female artists at the Bauhaus. The series is brought by the Perrotin Gallery and Star Gallery. Bauhaus Gal inspired by zeitgeist-charged archive book \u27Bauhaus Girls.\u27 Viewers are assured they will get a feel for the much-changing force of Bauhaus women across the decades. Chen Ke\u27s series stands out for its vibrant colors, dynamic compositions, and ability to convey these women\u27s strength and resilience in the face of societal challenges. Each piece is a visual 4 testimony to the undefeatable spirit of these pioneering women, making it a must-see highlight of the exhibition. The fashion and design section introduces the ready-to-wear collection of Yearly Plan, revealing both the elegance of modern minimalism and the practicable beauty that corresponds to modern women\u27s freedom. So, in this part of the exhibition, the viewer will be humbly asked to postulate his or her own reflections about the connections between modernism aesthetics and the practice of sustainable fashion design today. The Exhibition will feature the music of the 20th Century musician Ruth Crawford Seeger. enriched with her musical works as the theme music for the exhibition space, offering an immersive view into the world of female modernist aesthetics, therefore providing a comprehensive view of how women contributed to modernist movements of the 20th Century

A metaverse of Chinese traditional folk villages and houses with great aesthetic pleasure: A virtual world dedicated to the enthusiasts of life with art, culture, history and architectures

Rapid growth of 3D visualisation technology has led to the maturation of metaverse, bringing innovative and immersive experiences to travellers and representing tremendous potential for revolutionising the tourism industry. Advantages of metaverse, plummeting cost of technology and emerging supportive policies are jointly building up a very promising future of metaverse in tourism. Big companies worldwide are heavily investing in metaverse. In China, Tencent SSV Digital Culture Lab has initiated the annual project “Explore Metaverse Plan”, providing a communication platform and exhibition opportunity for the small and midsize players working on the digitalisation of cultural and artistic heritage. Google Art & Culture was launched in 2011, cooperating with 17 museums and in 2023, more than 2,000 museums in nearly 100 countries participated the program. In 2018, they cooperated with CyArk, launching the Open Heritage program, exploring iconic locations in 3D, on the frontlines against cultural destruction and protecting sacred sites at risk. Our business is to create a metaverse with 20 architectural kinds of traditional folk villages and houses from 16 Chinese provinces, offering virtual tours with possibility to enjoy details in real life or in historical records, aiming to partially solve the problem “a thousand cities with the same face”, frequently complained by domestic and abroad tourists traveling in China. This problem starts from Culture Revolution. Four Olds campaign destroyed phenomenal Chinese buildings and torn classical decorations and historical objects apart, removing more than 90 percent of cultural artefacts. In the 1970s, under the economic model of production first, living later , a large number of traditional houses were demolished, a group of simple brick-concrete houses was created. From 90s on, modern architecture from abroad further replaced the traditional houses. The study and protection of traditional residential buildings, once was numerous and widely distributed, become a salvage work. We want to join this effort, starting from 3D modelling of the architectures and neighbourhoods and creating a metaverse, offering immersive experience as a virtual form of old cities 1 that we memorise, smart ones that we hope to live and future cities that we eager to explore. Our first product is 3D Modelling Platform of Fujian Tulou Cluster. In 2008, Fujian Tulou was officially inscribed on the World Heritage List. However it doesn’t stop young people abandoning Tulou and moving to modern buildings with more space, better lighting, running water, safe electricity and restroom, etc. Young people are no longer familiar with artisanal work and the craftsmanship gathered for centuries is gradually lost. Our metaverse not only models the physical sites and buildings, but also captures skills, knowledge, wisdom and memories. This thesis focuses on how to create the product and operate the project. The long-term significance is to understand the technique solutions and to facilitate the quick application of the learned lessons on other products, such as bamboo houses. In order to outperform our competitors and deter new entries, we focus on Content and Aesthetics, making them as our signature. Our strength is the multi-cultural and multi-profession team, covering several languages and life experiences in different continents. The main touch points of our business are travel inspiration and edutainment. Our two cash cow services are 1) field trips targeting at 9 to 14 years schoolers and offering tours as well as 3D modelling workshops; and 2) 24/7 virtual guide and language supports to non Chinese speaking visitors. We already have an oral commitment from one Hakka investor with 280,000asstartupcapital.Thebestscenarioisthiscapitalwillsupportusuntilwereachthebreakeveninlessthan2yearswiththerevenuegeneratedfromfieldtripservicealone.Applyingthesamefinancialpatternontherestof19products,themetaversaplatformcouldgeneratetheprofitof280,000 as start-up capital. The best scenario is this capital will support us until we reach the break-even in less than 2 years with the revenue generated from field trip service alone. Applying the same financial pattern on the rest of 19 products, the metaversa platform could generate the profit of 15 millions in the 10th year. Our business could also be financed by government entities and private foundations because the potential services in tourism market could have huge economic implications for societies. When the metaverse is equipped with the well modelled virtual houses and accurately designed Digital Twin towns, we will continuously create innovative, interactive and informative online and offline services and accordingly generate revenues

Marisol Escobar: What happened to Marisol Escobar?

    No full text
This thesis analyzes the life and work of Marisol Escobar, a notable figure in the 1960 New York art scene. Despite her importance and role in the Pop Art movement, along with important artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, Marisol’s legacy has not been celebrated to the level of her male counterparts. The purpose of the study is to examine the reasons contributing to the removal of Marisol Escobar from art history; it aims to explore different leading expert opinions, along with first hand sources through interviews of close friends, and colleagues. The investigation will begin with a biography of Marisol, spanning all stages of her life. Using evidence and anecdotal references from both first hand, and educated sources. Articles, press, quotes, and important stories will be mentioned which aim to help the reader understand the character behind the art, including her lifestyle, choices and way of thinking which led to her disappearance. Proceeding this, it will delve deeper into the history of the pop art movement, exploring the careers of her peers, and the New York art scene in general in an attempt to understand their success, and the wider scope of the 60s art movement in New York. First hand research such as interviews will be presented forward. Information including literature and press from the time and current will be reviewed and analyzed. Her market in comparison to other important figures of the time will be analyzed in an attempt to understand the current market status for the artist. 3 The thesis aims to answer the question, “Why was Marisol Escobar forgotten from Art History?” This multifaceted question has been of interest to experts and art historians alike, this thesis however differentiates itself by attempting to answer this question from a more personal point of view. With the collaboration of close friends and work colleagues of Marisol, the thesis aims to explore the possible reasons as to Marisol’s disappearance from the history books in a nuanced manner, using facts, and primary evidence. After reviewing all the data, the essay will explore the possible reasons and provide context and weight to each. There are several expert hypotheses which hold weight as plausible explanations for Escobar’s disappearance, commonly historians theorize between four which are the most probable. A combination of these four hypotheses is likely the most probable outcome, A commonly cited reason is due to the fact that Marisol was a woman in a male led pop art movement, the second most cited is the fact that she was introverted and disliked the spotlight, the third reason which is commonly attributed to her disappearance was the fact that she was considered difficult to work with, and finally the fact that she was Latina. The initial hypothesis of this thesis is that Marisol was forgotten from art history due to her difficult and introverted nature. In conclusion, results from this thesis findings suggest that the initial hypothesis was incorrect due to the fact that the most important reason as to her disappearance was originally left out. It is known that Marisol Escobar was at the top of the art world before embarking on two separate hiatuses, the fast paced art world quickly forgot her and it was impossible for her to reclaim those levels of fame

Bouguereau’s Vampires: Navigating Transgressive Desire in Dante et Virgile

This thesis investigates William Bouguereau’s Dante et Virgile (1850) in the context of nineteenth century vampire literature, emerging as the seminal text on the matter. Through a cross-discipline examination of Dante’s Divina Commedia (ca. 1308–1321), and two canonical works of Gothic vampire fiction — John Polidori’s The Vampyre (1819) and Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu’s Carmilla (1872), respectively — prominent affinities are articulated. Comprising a broad scope, this text propounds a panoptic argument that such consonance is demonstrative of a reconciliation between the classical and Gothic, forged by nuances of the composition’s own nineteenth century — the Byronic hero, homoeroticism, Neoclassicism, and Gothic vampirism, amongst others — in tandem with propinquities to the antique and Renaissance. This paper provides a cross-disciplinary overview of an array of historical periods spanning over one thousand years and regions, analyzing the highly complex mechanics of the classical-Gothic relationship through the forging of others: classical-Italian Renaissance, Italian Renaissance-Neoclassical France, British Gothic-French Revolution, and post-reformation England-Gothic, for instance. Interwoven is the overarching role of the historical imagination, traced through these rich matrices, literature, and Dante et Virgile. Clarifying Bouguereau’s enigmatic and single creation of a terribiltà with the pervasiveness of Gothic literature calls for an enhanced assessment of Dante et Virgile, proffering a comprehensive survey that divulges the abiding intricacies of transgressive desire within a tremendously overlooked composition

Street photography is a visual art that began to pick up in popularity in the 20th century especially in large cities like New York. There was so much going on in the world at the times and it was a perfect opportunity for aspiring artists to go out into the streets and capture the realities of what was happening. This thesis dives into the origins of street photography as well as an emphasis on the development and shaping of street photography while being used in urban settings in the 20th century. A discussion of the technological development of the camera including how shape, size, and other advancements allowed for portability of the camera plays a role in the growth of street photography. In addition to an in-depth investigation on the New York Photo League and how their work in capturing unfiltered moments of people had a role in shaping and progressing the street photography style as well as progressing photography as an art form. This thesis also highlights Lisette Model and Helen Levitt as they had been extremely influential in the realm of street photography and had connections to the New York Photo League

Navigating the Art Landscape: Unraveling the Identity Crisis of Dallas as an Art City and Charting a Path to Global Recognition

    No full text
Despite its rich cultural landscape, robust economy, and burgeoning contemporary art scene, Dallas, Texas has yet to gain the recognition enjoyed by major art cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Miami. It is one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States and is home to some of the most distinguished art collections in the country, although it faces a significant gap in its art ecosystem. For instance, the absence of major commercial galleries, auction houses, and a cohesive local artist community has prevented the city from establishing itself as a leading art hub. This paper, therefore, aims to identify the factors that have shaped Dallas\u27 art scene and those that have limited its growth. Additionally, it seeks to understand the impact of recent developments, such as the rise of the Dallas Art Fair and related initiatives, in actively shaping a narrative that could elevate Dallas to a more eminent position in the global art landscape. Furthermore, the paper will shed light on the ongoing transformative forces influencing the city\u27s art market, creating opportunities for increased recognition as a prominent art city on an international scale

A Critical Analysis of Burgeoning Artificial Intelligence Trends Through the Lens of Contemporary Art

    No full text
In this thesis, I explore the exploitative aspects of artificial intelligence technologies by delving into critical and conceptual works created by individuals involved in contemporary art practice, including artists, theorists, curators, and researchers. My focus is on developing a new aesthetic perspective that centers on the current ruling elite\u27s global domination and control of infrastructure. The widespread use of artificial intelligence technologies within a capitalist, neoliberal framework often prioritizes profits over the well-being of both humanity and the environment, with deliberate obscurity in the language used to describe these technologies. Prominent figures in this discourse, such as Hito Steyerl, Lynn Hershman Leeson, and Trevor Paglen, help to decipher the opaque terminology employed by governmental and corporate entities. They are further supported by the insightful research of authors like Kate Crawford. The artworks I analyze encompass a wide range of media, including multimedia installations, videos, computer algorithm-generated works, generative AI programs, AI-generated visuals, performances, sculptures, and photographs. These artistic expressions collectively shed light on the transformative impact of AI on society. One significant aspect of their exploration is the recognition of biases deeply embedded in training data sets and the overzealous pursuit of specific AI functionalities by tech companies. Some of these AI systems remain completely inscrutable to experts. The concept of machine vision is also examined, prompting us to ponder the implications of a machine\u27s perspective as it transitions between machine-to-machine, machine-to-human, and human-to-machine interactions. Throughout this research, I elaborate on the notion of algorithmic violence, which manifests through cultural shifts, the exploitation of human beings and the environment, and the extraction of data for profit and state-driven agendas
