Leopold von Andrian: Der Garten der Erkenntnis : dual reality
Leopold von Andrian's Der Garten der Erkenntnis, with its depth, reminds one of Musil's Törless, Beer-Hofmann's Der Tod Georgs as well as Hofmannsthal's Andreas-Roman, shows analogies to the Märchen der 672. Nacht or Rilke's Malte. Between longing and hopes, Erwin leads a sometimes-dull life guided by premonitions. In fleeting circumstances, Erwin presents himself, always hoping to understand the meaning of existence and make it interpretable for himself. The world of the factual, of data and determinations, is contrasted with the reality of premonitions and dreams, which appear more binding to Erwin. A dualism emerges, which reveals itself as antagonism, in which there is no definitive solution. Erwin's life is constantly subject to threshold situations that he can hardly cope with. Enclosed within himself, captivated by his dream world, he is unable to differentiate. He uses the influences of the environment as a mirror for his inner self. Erwin presents a teichoscopy of self-worlds, each projecting a part of his self and thereby hinting at a hidden wholeness
On the theory and practice of patronage after 1950 : Joachim Moras as a DJ of the literary business
The article analyzes the estates of Joachim Moras and Hans Paeschke, the editors of the journal Merkur, which are kept in the DLA Marbach, focusing in particular on financial aspects of journal production. First, a number of examples demonstrate how important it is to embed the Merkur analysis in the social, economic, political and literary contexts of the time. The focus is on Joachim Moras, who in addition to his work on the magazine Merkur also acted in other roles: as an author, translator, editor, network mediator, encyclopaedia editor, member of committees and juries as well as a German-European cultural mediator, etc. Their overlaps are described as 'DJ practice' in order to illustrate the mixing of different texts, projects and contacts. Finally, Moras is presented as a theorist and practitioner of modern (industrial) patronage, whose systematic engagement with this topic has produced some remarkable results, but from a practical point of view, Moras has hardly been able to profit from it
The work Difese delle donne, written by the priest and writer Domenico Bruni da Pistoia in 1552, through a metaphorical and meticulous intellectual, aesthetic, theological and philosophical exalt both the dignity of the female sex and the beauty of literature, embracing the concepts of power ethics and transtextuality. Traces the path of redemption of women's honor and prestige, often questioned by self-righteous, wounded or disappointed literati, but also by some philosophers and legislators who are not inclined to support the cunning and intelligence of the female half of the human being. His philogine voice offers an alternative vision and weaving the praise to women from multiple points of view, relying on reasoned intra- and intertextual connections, integrating thoughts and different related studies in the Querelle des Femmes of the Italian Renaissance.
Philogynist treatises played a decisive role in the Italian Renaissance. Despite being overlooked by literary critics, these contributions are now widely recognized for their early advocacy of women's equality in the 16th century. This article examines Dell'economia o vero del governo della casa (1555), a seminal work authored by Antonio della Pagliara that sought to introduce structural reforms in support of female parity in 16th century Tuscan society. The process of translating this piece of work into Spanish has presented a number of difficulties, with the rendering of archaisms being the main philological challenge faced by the translator of the original work. Attention is thus focused on the hurdles that arise from the linguistic interpretation of archaic structures and diachronic Italian expressions, presenting contrasting examples and well-reasoned arguments to support the translation decisions made in the target text.
Daniel Defoe's novel The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner (1719) engendered numerous sequels reproducing the chronotope and narrative schema of an existential and civilizational challenge. Patrick Chamoiseau's L'Empreinte à Crusoé (2012) seizes the opportunity to develop a narrativized philosophical reflection which, in the guise of a resurging noesis of the self, takes the starting point of post-colonial and negritude thought (Césaire, Fanon, Glissant) and moves beyond it by integrating it into the universalist occidental context (Parmenides, Heraclitus, Leibniz, Hegel, Kierkegaard, Heidegger, Ricoeur). The article attempts to identify three elements of the novelistic text: (1) revival and overcoming of New World myths; (2) poetic strategies underlying the philosophical mode of narration; (3) analysis of the noesis in Robinson-Ogomtemmêli's narrative.
Emil Kaufmann, Max Dvořák and the idea of (in) 18th-century art
This study examines Emil Kaufmann's (1891–1953) interpretation of 18th-century architecture in relation to the ideas of his teacher Max Dvořák (1874–1921), a key figure of the Vienna School of Art History. Kaufmann is known for linking 18th-century French architecture with modernist principles, especially through his influential book Von Ledoux bis Le Corbusier (1933), where he connected Claude-Nicolas Ledoux's work with that of Le Corbusier. While this modernist reading has been widely discussed, Kaufmann's intellectual debt to Dvořák has received little attention. Based on archival sources, this study traces their shared view of 18th-century art, particularly through Kaufmann's 1920 dissertation Die Entwürfe des Architekten Ledoux und die Aesthetik des Klassicismus, written under Dvořák's supervision at the University of Vienna, and Dvořák's unpublished 1918 lecture series Die Entwicklung der malerischen Probleme im 18. Jahrhundert. The findings reveal deeper continuities between the Vienna School's historical thought and early modernist architectural theory
