    Live Aquarium Show Information Support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People

    Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) people often lose the opportunity to learn and enjoy interactive live presentations in museums using voice and sound. We focused on an aquarium live show with cheering and tried to provide captions of trainers’ and narrators’ voices to DHH people’s smartphones. Speech recognition was not available because the venue was very noisy. We manually typed text for captions. Because typing Japanese with Kana–Kanji conversion is more complicated than typing English, we used a special system that we developed. This system allows two or more people to take turns inputting text in real time. Captions can be viewed on participants’ smartphones. Fourteen participants answered some questionnaire items. The results of the experiment suggest the following. Participants were able to enjoy the live show more with the help of real-time captions. However, the usability of captions was low. Several participants noted that they strongly felt the caption delay when trainers and other spectators interact and that they did not have time to read long captions.     Study on the effectiveness of massage therapy for eyestrain syndrome

    This study examined the effectiveness of massage therapy for eyestrain syndrome. This study was a randomized controlled trial involving two groups. Sixteen individuals provided with eyestrain written informed consent for participation in the study. The intervention massage group included 8 participants, and the control group included 8 participants. The subjects performed eyestrain-inducing load work by computer input for 30 min, and the intervention was then performed. For participants in massage group, the therapist massaged the neck and shoulders, temporal region, and orbital area for 20 min. The participants in control group rested untreated for 20 min in the supine position with eyes closed. The degree of eye strain decreased (VAS) by 30.3 mm in massage group and 31.8 mm in control group; a significant decrease was observed in massage groups and control (P <0.05). The pulse decreased by 5.9 bpm in massage group and 0.1 bpm in control group; a significant decrease was noted only in group massage (P <0.05). A 20-min, comfortable massage for asthenopia syndrome has been shown to improve the degree of eyestrain.departmental bulletin pape

    本稿では,情報保障で用いられる音声認識技術について,その基礎から最近の動向までを概観する。続いて,深層学習に基づくend-to-end(エンド・ツー・エンド)音声認識を用いた,音声からのダイレクト点訳に関する筆者らの研究を紹介する。日本では,音声からの点訳による盲ろう者の情報アクセシビリティの向上が期待されている。日本の点字は,日本語音声の特徴を反映したかな文字が基盤であり,音声認識との親和性が高い。筆者らは,ニューラルネットワークを用いて音声から点字を直接生成することを試みた。また,音声認識と点訳を組み合わせた手法と比較した。departmental bulletin pape
