Effectiveness of flexible staffing practices in selected small size organizations in Dubai, UAE: an empirical study with reference to Atkinson’s Model

    Get PDF
Peripheral staffing, also known as flexible staffing has emerged as a strategic choice for most of the organizations across the globe. With the fast changing economic-commercial environment, such practice has become a compulsive strategic priority in almost all industries. Specially, in the small and medium industries, where challenges of business sustainability have evolved as a major issue, flexible staffing in one form or other has been widely adopted as a diligent option. Atkinson’s study has been the pioneering research in terms of framing such workforce composition and is widely accepted globally as the key reference contribution. Though, few other subsequent researches have come-up with new ideas, yet, the significance of the contribution of Atkinson’s work has remained the main guiding framework in the specific domain. In the present quantitative and descriptive research, attempt has been made to evaluate the observations of the 175 middle level executives employed in six medium scale organizations in three main industries, located in Dubai, the financial and commercial hub of the middle east. The parameters incorporated in the study can be referred  to the issues identified in Atkinson’s model and few other significant researches, based on the same. Recommendations have been developed and further scopes of expansion of research have been empirically suggested. Key words: Peripheral workforce, Atkinson’s model, quantitative and descriptive research, Dubai, medium scale organizations Â

Optimization of DC Microgrid for Renewable Energy Integration

    Get PDF
This paper analyses the possibility to develop in optimizing the utilization of renewable energy sources within microgrids. The renewable wind and solar power generation forecast are aggregated, and it is proposed to support the quantification of the operational reserve and maintain the equilibrium of the microgrid's real-time supply and demand. One potential solution is a microgrid that can be vertically integrated with high-rise buildings which are frequently encountered in urban areas

Morphometric Analysis and Landuse Study of Gabharu River Basin using Remote Sensing and GIS

    Get PDF
Geographical information system (GIS) has emerged as an efficient tool in delineation of drainage pattern. The present study deals mainly with the evaluation of morphometric parameters such as stream order (Nu), stream length (Lu), bifurcation ratio (Rb), drainage density (D), stream frequency (Fs), texture ratio (T), elongation ratio (Re), circularity ratio (Rc),and form factor ratio (Rf) etc..The study area is located partly in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh and partly in Sonitpur district of Assam,India. The SRTM DEM was collected for detailed study of the basin and then different thematic maps e.g. stream orders; drainage density, drainage frequency and relative relief have been prepared by using Arc GIS (9.3) software. Land use was investigated by the combined use of Remote sensing, GIS and also field survey. The study demonstrates that the integration of satellite remote sensing and GIS is an effective approach for analyzing the morphometric pattern and land uses study. This study would help in utilization of the resources for sustainable development of the basin

    NATURAL FIBER REINFORCED POLYMER COMPOSITES

    Get PDF
Hybrid composites of epoxy matrix and four mixed fibers were prepared. The epoxy matrix is from BADGE and the hardener PPA-7040 mixed in 1:1 volume ratio. The four mixed fibers used for reinforcement are (i) murta bast + jute, (ii) murta bast + luffa, (iii) murta bast + coir, and (iv) murta bast + betel nut fiber. The hybrid composites were analyzed and characterized on the basis of density, water absorption, thermal gravimetric analysis, tensile/flexural/compressive/impact strengths and hardness studies. Murta and jute form the best mixture for making hybrid composite as this composite possess superior physical and mechanical properties. The amount of water absorbed by a hybrid composite does not appear to have any correlation with the chemical composition of the fibers used for reinforcement

Performance Analysis of Non-linear Jacketed CSTR based on Different Control Strategies

    Get PDF
This paper aims at finding the optimum controller for a jacketed Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) under non-ideal conditions. Various conventional control methods show poor response for non-linear processes. This paper outlines the design procedure of the Internal Model Controller (IMC) and Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC). The performance of the jacketed CSTR process is analyzed based on Internal Model Control and adaptive control. Simulation results have been compared with conventional PID contro

Courtship, Marriage, Consent and Violence against Women in the Meitei Society: A Feminist Viewpoint

    Get PDF
The emotive vocabulary woven by the mothers of Meitei society in their voices against the state violence on the female body is substantially effective in highlighting the violence against women by the state forces. The other side of the story is the disturbing trend of the recurrent cases of violence against women particularly rape, betrayal and killing of young girls and women in Meitei society which are evident in the local dailies and reports on crime against women. The paper seeks to nuance the expressions of violence against women in the tradition of “koiba†and “chenba†by employing the Bourdieusian concept of habitus and feminist criticism on its limits

Pixel Count Based Yield Estimation Model, to Reduce Input feature required in Machine Learning System for Major Agricultural Crop

    Get PDF
Traditionally, the crop analysis and agricultural production predictions were done based on statistical models. However, with the climate of the world changing to drastic degrees, these statistical models have become very ambiguous. Hence, it becomes prudent that we resort to other less vague methods. Through a traditional model, user interacts primarily with a mathematical computations and its results and helps to solve well-defined and structured problems. Whereas, in a data driven model, user interacts primarily with the data and helps to solve mainly unstructured problems. At this point, enters the concept of Machine Learning. In this work we tried to find a new approach to reduce the input feature to reduce the processing power needed. We have attempted at predicting the agricultural outputs of rice production in an area by implementing a pixel count based classification machine learning model. Through this model, we tried to predict the approximate crop yield based on NDVI values analyzed for a particular season and area

Sensor-Network based Instrumentation for monitoring of withering in black tea production

    Get PDF
Proper level of withering plays an important role in overall quality of the produced tea. Withering is the first process in tea manufacturing and is considered the foundation of quality tea. In this paper, an in-situ instrumentation technique is proposed, which is validated experimentally for monitoring of parameters affecting the withering process of tea leaves in black tea production. In the proposed technique, distribution of relative humidity and temperature during withering process is monitored and recorded which would be useful for prediction of withering level using advanced soft computing tool. The implementation detail of a sensor network is presented in the paper. Using the sensor network, variations in the distribution of relative humidity and temperature in a withering trough is monitored and recorded
