Social Movement and Militancy: A Perspective from Within
Social and identity assertion movements aim at bringing about positive change in society, but some are have come to be associated with militancy and activities of extremism, violence and loss of life. However, this involves a complex process often forced by neglect of the milder means of articulating and asserting their rights by groups who experience and feel marganilised, neglected and dominated by the state or the dominant section of society who also exercise authority and power. This paper presents a narrative and argument of social movements turning militant from within a community’s perspective of their movement for rights – to be recognised and granted. City without a migrant?
‘City without a migrant’ is an oxymoron to imagine of a city in the entire world where there is not a single migrant who is residing within its boundaries. This paper attempts to contribute to the body of urban studies by looking into the relationship between migrants and city, analyzing the inclusive and exclusive perspectives and probing questions whether migrants have deteriorated the conditions of the cities or they have contributed (by extending their ‘cheap’ labour) in the vertical and horizontal expansion of the cities. The paper is divided into four sections. The first section looks into the relationship between cities and migrants from the inclusive and exclusive perspectives. The second section looks at the relationship between migrants and urbanization. The third section looks into the insider-outsider paradigm that is constructed to distinguish between the local and the migrants and how the migrants negotiate their identity in Guwahati, one of the largest urbanized cities in North-East India. The fourth section analyzes policies that are framed in the context of India for migrants and the way migrants are reflected in the policies. The paper is an attempt to show that flow of people and goods have existed since time immemorial. Though in recent times flow of people into the city cannot simply be summed up in terms of ‘push and pull’ but there are several factors at work like globalization, urbanization, industrialization, capacity to aspire and find a new way of life which leads to the migration of people to the cities. Enhancement of Fault Ride-Through Capability during Symmetrical Fault of the DFIG Wind Turbine using Alternative Resistive-type SFCL
In this paper, the resistive-type superconducting fault current limiter (RT-SFCL) with doubly-fed induction gen¬erator (DFIG) based wind turbine has been proposed to suppress the steady-state and transient fault current at stator side to improve the fault ride through (FRT) capability of the system. This fault current limiter utilizing the superconductor dc coil so there is not any power loss during both normal as well as faulty operation of system. The analytical analysis has been also presented. The simulation results of a 0.9 MW/0.69 kV, the DFIG-based wind turbine are obtained with and without proposed RT-SFCL using PSCAD/EMTDC software. Modelling and Simulation of Supercapacitor for Energy Storage Applications
Energy storage remains a key component in sustainable energy systems. Supercapacitors are gaining widespread use as a form of energy harvesters to store harvested energy. In this paper, both mathematical and electrical models of the supercapacitor are obtained and used to simulate the voltage charge/discharge cycle of the supercapacitor. An approach to enhance the efficiency of the solar PV panel in partial shading condition: A Review
Hot spot heating causes permanent destruction of the solar cell structure. Areas with high impurity contaminants and high concentration of transition metals have the most number of hot spot heating. When the operating current of the overall series string approaches the short circuit current of a bad cell then the overall current becomes limited by the bad cell. The good cell becomes forward bias, which reverse biases the bad cell. This leads to large dissipation of power in the bad cell. Enormous power is dissipated in the bad cell or hot spot that results in destructive effects like glass cracking, melting of solder or degradation of a solar cell. The solar panel works best when there is no shade on them. If there is a partial shadow in any one of the arrays, the efficiency of the solar panel drops to a great extent. The shaded cell becomes reverse biased so maximum power will be dissipated on the shaded cell. The heat developed due to the reverse biased of the shaded region adds to the dissipated power
