    Water Efficiency and Management in Green Building: A Review

    Water is the most important compound worldwide for life support and other varied human activities. The shortage for these specific activities demands the need for air, river, waste and water disposal, reservation and transportation to produce portable water. These studies were planned to assess the value of water conservation and quality, and the level of distribution of criteria and points through green building ranking systems. When groups, criteria and distribution of points were evaluated for ranking schemes. The analysis reveals that water is a significant category because it is included in all rating schemes and within the rating schemes have appreciable criteria and the allocation level. The difference in rank, criteria, and points distribution is focused on the social, cultural, and environmental interests of all stakeholders of the different countries. The Green Ship and Green Star SA 's highest parameters and points indicate the need for effective water production and delivery throughout the society as well as the house. While in Green Mark and BEAM is due to lack of enough fresh water for daily activities as well as building construction. As a consequence of developments in renewable water production and delivery in the respective countries, the lowest in the BREEAM, Green Star NZ and LEED has been. The study harmonized criteria included the whole sustainable building environment evaluation in terms of water supply, delivery, and use for countries establishing ranking schemes

    Nowadays self-directed learning and automation are not restricted to human beings only. If you stare out at the automotive horizon, you can see a new exciting era coming into limelight: the age of self-driving cars. An age when humans will no longer need to keep their eyes on the road. No more concerns about distraction while driving or those stressful rush hour commutes, vehicles will whisk us where we want to go, blazingly fast and efficiently. This paper aims at demonstrating a system, which is able to drive a car on road without any human input. Both software and hardware parts are discussed here. The vehicle would contain certain sensors such as GPS, Ultrasonic Sensor, Camera and would contain an on-board computer for decision making. Waypoint data would be obtained from a nav provider like Google Maps. All of it would be simulated in CARLA, an open-source simulator

    Performance Evaluation of Classification-Based Association Rule Mining for Knowledge Discovery

    Association rule mining is used to find the interesting association or correlation relationships among a large set of data items. This paper proposes classification-based association rule mining (CBA). Besides this, the performance of Apriori algorithm is also analyzed on five UCI machine learning datasets. Weka tool is used to analyze the performance of Apriori algorithm. The classification based on Apriori is compared with the existing classification techniques. The proposed classification algorithm exhibits superiority over the existing classification algorithms

    Performance Evaluation of Phytocapping As Covering For Sanitary Landfill Sites

    Commonly adopted method for discarding of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is disposal on landfill sites. The practice involves treatment of MSW before disposal, which is infrequent in most of the places in India. With the disposal of untreated waste, the biodegradation of MSW triggers the formation of Landfill Gases (LFG). Moreover, the closer of aged landfill must be practiced with application of soil over the layer of last dumped waste, which is also infrequent, in turn the landfills are used until management thinks they can. This unplanned and haphazard use of landfill creates countless environmental hazard. To overcome this approach, the present paper focuses on a novel idea of closure of landfill by the application of vegetation (phytocaps) on its top. In the experiment three planters were used each depicting solid waste disposal site. Two planter P1 and P2 depicts MSW landfill sites with application of phytocaps and planter P3 portrays conventional MSW landfill sites. Five Indian species of plants, commonly named as Basil, Lemon grass, Indian Mustard, Sunflower and Lily with locally available soil were taken in experiment for evaluation of phytocaps for covering of landfill sites. The implementation of plants decreases the amount of nutrients and heavy metals in leachate, thereby decrease in threat of groundwater pollution. They also enhance the methane oxidation in soil. Roots of plants absorbs the essential nutrients from the soil leading to the bio-availability of oxygen for the methanotrops to oxidize the CH4. The leachate characteristics, plant height, root depth, heavy metal uptake by roots, chlorophyll analysis and methane emission analysis from each planter were studied. The experiment resulted in 60-63% of reduction in methane emission in planter 1 and 2 while the emission in planter 3 increased with the course of time. Similarly, leachate samples from planter 1 and 2 showed reduction of 99% COD, 95-99% heavy metals, 75-82% nutrients and pH was found to be alkaline

    Comparative Evaluation of flank wear of uncoated, AlTiN and TiSiN Coated Cermet Insert by Machining of D2 Tool Steel

    The life of a cutting tool is one of the major parameters which affects the cost and quality of machining. Hence manufacturing industries putting lots of effort and resources to increase tool life and productivity. This research focuses on increasing the life of cutting tool insert by suggesting new coating material for turning harden metals. An experimentation analysis is carried out on uncoated, conventional coated (AlTiN) and newly suggested coating (TiSiN) cermet insert. Experiments were carried out by selecting 90, 183, and 245 m/min as cutting speed, 0.2 mm/rev as feed, and 0.25 mm depth of cut. The result shows all three inserts give good performance at 90 m/min cutting speed. Tool life of AlTiN coated insert shows 20 min and TiSiN coated insert shows 22.21 min at 183 m/min cutting speed. At cutting speed 245 m/min all three types of cutting insert break even after 1 min of machining

    Factors Influencing Student Engagement in Online Learning during the COVID – 19 pandemic period in India.

    COVID-19 has severely impacted virtually all sectors, including the education sector, in unexpected ways. Education in India, which is very solid in its own way, has also undergone unprecedented changes during the pandemic. The education system that is mostly offline in India was forcefully converted to an online mode to keep the thousands of students safe from the corona virus and also to cater to their educational need. However, it remains to be seen whether the learning transmitted by the on-line mode has achieved its objective or not. A detailed study is certainly required to understand the impact created by on-line teaching - learning process.  This study is part of such an effort to identify the factor that might influence the effectiveness of online education. An effort is made to ensure that students who experience online learning for the first time are assessed. The study conducted with a sample of 290 undergraduate and postgraduate students revealed that student’s engagement in online learning is influenced by factors like student characteristics, instructor characteristics, learning environment, course design, course content and administrative support. Instructor characteristics were also observed to be one of the most important factors influencing student engagement. During the study, some parameters related to e-learning were studied to better understand the factors that influence student engagement. Though there are many studies that have already identified factors influencing student engagement in online education, however, it is quite evident that the online education imparted during the pandemic time is not the same. It is evident that most of the education system has been primarily converted to online education due to an emergency without adequate preparedness. Therefore, the factors identified for a normal on-line learning process may not be similar for on-line education provided in emergency situations. This clearly points out that such a study is necessary

    Production Efficiencies of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation Beneficiaries A Case Study of Livestock Farmers in Kwara State, Nigeria

    Livestock farmers are faced with various risks which is  because agriculture largely depends on nature. In solving this the Federal Government of Nigerian established the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation(NAIC). The objectives are to compare the technical efficiency and output of the beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries of NAIC, determine the levels of production efficiency of the beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries, identify the determinants of production efficiency of beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries and identify the constraints encountered by the beneficiaries in the study area. The research was carried out in Kwara state, Nigeria. The target population was the livestock farmers in Kwara state. A random sampling technique was used to select 160 farmers. Eighty farmers were selected based on the beneficiaries list obtained from NAIC head office in the state and eighty non-beneficiaries were selected using snowball sampling technique. The research instrument used was questionnaire. The analytical tools employed were descriptive statistics, t-test and stochastic frontier model. The results showed that the mean technical efficiency of the beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries were 0.87 and 0.54 respectively. This shows that the beneficiaries were more efficient than non-beneficiaries which implies that their involvement in insurance were of great benefits. The major risks encountered by majority of the livestock farmers are drought, variation in yield, diseases and pests. The constraints encountered include; fear that their claims may not be paid, attitude of NAIC, strict insurance policy. Therefore, it is recommended that insurance workforce should develop strategies like awareness creation that will encourage more participation in the insurance program among farming households

    Modeling and Optimization of Parameters affecting Drying of Corn Kernels (Zea Mays) in Convective Tray Dryer

    The present work involves the application of artificial neural network (ANN) and response surface methodology (RSM) for corn kernels drying in a convective tray dryer. The process parameters which affect most the drying of corn kernels namely: air velocity (2-5 m/sec), amount of feed (50-100 g), temperature (50-80 ℃) and drying time (30-60 min). These parameters affect the drying process tremendously. Predictive modelling has been done using RSM and ANN. With ANN, experimental results have been evaluated to train, test and validate so that behaviour of the system can be predicted. There were 10 neurons used for ANN model; LM (Levenberg-Marquardt) showed as a suitable training function; MSE as a performance function; GDM as a learning suitable function for simulation of drying operation. The coefficient of determination values (R) is 0.99916 for training, 0.99071 for validation, 0.96091 for test and 0.97527 for all the results, value of MSE is 0.0002. Experimental and predicted moisture removal regression coefficient is 0.8085 and 0.9348 with RSM and ANN model, respectively. ANN model shows better behaviour than Box-Behnken design
