Towards Redefining Strategic Enrollment Management: Response to Emerging Challenges of the 21st Century
Get PDFUnderstating the historical context and future prospects of Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) is a critical component to successful change management in higher education. For SEM to meet institutional goals underpinning the mission and vision of the institution, the scope of practice must be broadened. Redefining strategic enrollment management is necessary to focus on the development of collaborations that will serve as the foundation for leveraging the looming changes in industry and technology to achieve enrollment targets. This paper examines a specific case [E1] of implementing a new enrollment initiative, using a document analysis methodology to uncover emerging themes. These themes necessitate consideration of a revised definition of SEM to meet the challenges posed by the rapidly evolving landscape of higher education in the United States (U.S.), which is confronting an impending enrollment decline[E2] .

The Use of Art Therapy on Children with Life-Limiting Conditions
Get PDFArt therapy is a growing therapeutic technique that is noninvasive. The present literature review sets out to determine what effect art therapy has on children with life-limiting conditions. This author completed a literature review that involved analyzing ten research studies on a variety of youth populations. Studies were found about children with cancer, a child with cerebral palsy and a child with a severe neurological disorder. Zero incidences of harm were found when using art therapy. However, the literature was complicated by the type of art therapy provided, small sample sizes, varying duration of treatment, lack of control groups, lack of random assignment, lack of differentiation between group and individual treatment, and lack of a credentialed art therapist. There is most research available on children with cancer. This paper concludes that there are multiple reasons to strongly consider the use of Art Therapy when working with children who have life-limiting disabilities, but also acknowledges that there are some limitations in using art therapy as a diagnostic framework. As always, further research is still needed. Research recommendations are provided

“I’m Staying and You’re Gonna Love Me”: Finding Authentic Freedom & Fostering Belonging as Black Female Early Faculty
Get PDFThe purpose of this reflection is to expand the knowledge on the retention of early Black female faculty by exploring their challenges and triumphs in dismantling Whiteness and developing an authentic sense of belonging in the academy. In higher education, Black women experience marginalization at the intersection of anti-black racism and sexism. Faculty of color experience racial microaggressions, excessive workloads and service expectations, and their expertise is seldom recognized. Despite these challenges, marginalized faculty authentically persist and find a sense of belonging within the ivory tower by building mentorship relationships, departmental DEI efforts, opportunities for innovation, and cultivating Black sisterhood. This article details the experiences of two Black female speech-language pathology instructors, a third-year tenure track-academic faculty member, and a first-year clinical instructor, at a rural, Midwestern predominantly White institution. The instructor’s perspectives can be used to create culturally responsive programming for recruiting and retaining Black women in higher education
