Educating the Whole Child: The Essential Role of School-Based Mental Health Partnerships in Student Success
Schools are uniquely positioned to serve as gateways for mental health access, yet many educational systems continue to treat mental wellness as secondary to academic instruction. This paper argues that school-based mental health partnerships are as essential to student success as physical education or standardized assessment. Drawing from the author’s experience coordinating behavioral health services within Baltimore County Public Schools, the discussion highlights how integrated partnerships between schools and clinicians reduce barriers to care, improve collaboration among educators and families, and foster early intervention. The paper also addresses the risks of unrecognized mental health needs being misidentified as behavioral or neurodevelopmental issues. Embedding mental health into the fabric of education strengthens school climates, improves academic outcomes, and promotes equitable access to care. Educating the whole child requires systems that view mental health as fundamental to learning, not as an adjunct to it

A Critical Annotated Bibliography of Obscure Scholarship on John Kennedy Toole and A Confederacy of Dunces. version 2.0
The purpose of this bibliography is to summarize texts that might be difficult for the average scholar to obtain and to evaluate the quality of those obscure texts. Most of these are Master’s theses or Ph.D. dissertations that have at least some portion devoted to a discussion of John Kennedy Toole or the novel A Confederacy of Dunces. Most of the entries were written before 2014, though some were updated in 2025.https://openriver.winona.edu/libraryfacultyworks/1009/thumbnail.jp
AI in Business Classes
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping educational landscapes, offering opportunities to enrich teaching methodologies across diverse academic disciplines. In this session, two experienced faculty members from the College of Business share insights and practical experiences on integrating chatbots into their Finance and Management Information Systems (MIS) classes. Through practical examples from finance courses, such as investments and the Student Managed Investment Fund, and from MIS classes covering programming, databases, networking, and introductory MIS concepts, the presenters demonstrate how AI chatbots can effectively support student learning, enhance classroom engagement, and foster deeper conceptual understanding. This presentation will explore key successes, potential challenges, student feedback, and ethical considerations associated with using AI-powered tools in higher education. Attendees, including faculty and students from various disciplines, will gain actionable strategies and best practices for leveraging AI to elevate their own teaching and learning experiences
