NMR analysis of Sn( acac )2Cl2 complexes
In this project, we focused on the NMR analysis of five different Sn(IV) complexes synthesized by a β-diketone with SnCl2. Our analyses provided detailed insights into the precise structures of these compounds, confirming their successful formation and purity beyond what was capable for other characterization methods such as mass spectrometry and IR spectroscopy. Additionally, these results were combined with modeled NMR to attempt to ascertain cis to trans ratios of the complexes in solution
FEN Accessible Eating App
Fen is a dedicated social hub and resource platform designed to support the gluten-free and dairy-free community in Winona, Minnesota. Communication Studies Capstone Poster Presentations
Students will present posters of projects they\u27ve worked on over two semesters. Students are working on a variety of interesting topics, such as how or when student-athletes communicate injuries to coaches or trainers, whether the pronouns on a resume influence the perceived hireability of a candidate, the relationship between identifying fake news and determining what is misinformation, how Hmong mothers and daughters communicate, how fathers and young adults daughters communicate, how social media posts of NBA and NFL teams in the finals are similar and different, and many others
Bystander Intervention and Cyberbullying
With technology usage becoming a normal part of everyday life, cyberbullying incidents have increased and become a noticeable issue in today\u27s society. Previous studies on this topic have used the bystander intervention model to examine the bystander effect with social media usage. The current study manipulates the severity of a cyberbullying incident and the number of witnesses to the incident, while also measuring participants perceived severity of the incident, their feelings of responsibility/intention to intervene, and their self-reported empathy level. It is theorized that severity of the incident will positively influence participants feelings of responsibility and intention to help the victim. Higher number of witnesses will lead to participants being less likely to feel responsible to help the victim and their intention to help the victim. The current study found that the number of witnesses did not affect how severe participants perceived the incident. This finding showed that participants who were in the severe condition where more likely to help and feel more responsible to help. The current study also found that participants who reported past exposure to a cyberbullying incident were more likely to help the victims, no. matter the severity, than those who had no previous exposure to cyberbullying

Examining the Correlation Between Special Education Eligibility and Socioeconomic Status in Rural Minnesota Public Schools
The study examined the relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and Special Education identification in rural Minnesota schools, focusing on Specific Learning Disabilities and Other Health Disabilities, to determine whether students from lower-income backgrounds are disproportionately identified for Special Education services. Data were collected from five rural Minnesota public schools, analyzing student-level demographic and eligibility data from the 2022–2023 school year. Descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation analysis, and ratio calculations assessed the relationship between SES, indicated by free/reduced-price lunch eligibility, and Special Education identification rates. The results revealed a significant positive correlation (r = 0.84) between students qualifying for free/reduced-price lunch and those identified for Special Education services, suggesting a disproportionate representation of low-income students in Special Education. The findings raise concerns about potential biases in the referral and evaluation processes and highlight the need for improved policies and practices to address such disparities
Teaching Sprinting as a Specialized Skill in Elementary Physical Education
This article highlights the gap between current physical grade-level outcomes and the practical implementation of sprinting instruction in elementary schools. This emphasizes the need for higher education institutions to learn from practicing elementary teachers, who have successfully incorporated sprinting into their elementary curricula. While pre-service physical education teachers are not typically taught how to teach sprinting as a specialized skill, some elementary PE teachers have developed effective methods for doing so. This article suggests that higher education practitioners should examine these practitioners to inform and improve their teacher preparation programs. This paper outlines several practical applications currently used in elementary PE classes that others can immediately incorporate into their teaching practices. By bridging the gap between current practices in elementary schools and pre-service teacher education, the authors argue that future PE teachers can be prepared to effectively teach sprinting as a specialized skill, thereby enhancing students\u27 overall physical literacy and self-perception
