Greenland Self-Government versus Greenland Minerals: History, process, implications for future mineral exploration

    No full text
For many years, minerals and energy have been an important part of Greenlandic politics fueled by a strong desire to become economically independent of Denmark. In periods, large revenues have been provided for Greenlandic society, but in recent years with a relatively low level of activity and a declining interest from investors. Although there are many reasons for variations in resource investments globally, the decline seems paradoxically to be conditioned by political decisions and administrative procedures in Greenland. Among the main problems is a long-standing political disagreement among the governing parties over uranium. The history and the background for the initial course of the ongoing arbitration case and the upcoming court case between the Self-Government of Greenland and the licensee of the Kvanefjeld project, are introduced. The case is expected to be lengthy through several courts and may have a major impact on Greenland’s economy and further exploration and exploitation of resources

Edvard Munch og Platon – felles livsfilosofi?

    No full text
In this article, I present an intellectual-historical perspective on Edvard Munch\u27s art, based on the hypothesis that Munch was inspired by Plato\u27s philosophy. The sources I use to give a coherent understanding of my hypothesis are Ravenberg\u27s diary, Munch\u27s book collection, his own texts, paintings and illustrations, and letters between Munch and others. Other researchers have previously mentioned Plato in connection with Munch\u27s work, but inspiration from Plato is commonly unknown. The purpose is to highlight and provide a deeper insight into part of Munch\u27s philosophical ideas. This applies to both his view of cosmos and man, and his view of art and the artist. Munch\u27s expressionistic art expresses an essential reality behind the physical that he captures with his soul or inner eye.

The Digital Leap in March 2020 – Teachers Assessing Their Digital Competence After the Distance Learning Period

    No full text
The Covid-19 pandemic and the emergency remote teaching (ERT) that it brought along in spring 2020, forced educators and educational institutions worldwide to quickly adapt to the technology needed for teaching and learning. This was situation in Finland too. Now, three years after the pandemic, when the extensive school closings and emergency remote teaching at least now are behind us, we wanted to find out how do the teachers assess their digital competence after the ERT period compared to the time before it.  Based on the self-assessment questionnaire, teachers’ competence and their confidence in their own skills has increased, but in moderation.  When looking at competence assessments compared to age, confidence and competence seem to decrease with age, teachers under age 30 being the most competent. In the period under review, competence has grown the most among people between the ages of 30 and 60. Although teachers\u27 activity in the use of information and communication technology in most of the lessons has somewhat increased, no remarkable change can be seen in students\u27 use of ICT in most of their lessons. Teachers are still the most active part in the use of technology in learning

Dutch Therapists’ Professional Autonomy and Moral Agency After the Marketization and Bureaucratization of Mental Healthcare: Between Impracticalities and Impossibilities

    No full text
Over the last decades, western mental healthcare has increasingly been governed by market and bureaucratic principles. As a consequence, therapists are faced with conflicting demands and decreased autonomy. This study examines how they cope and whether their strategies suffice. Drawing on the direct experience of therapists through interviews, we demonstrate that psychologists have become quite skilled at balancing and navigating bureaucratic and market demands that were at odds with professionalism. However, when they were structurally faced with bureaucratic and market demands that were already irreconcilable with each other, these skills fell short. Trying to meet all requirements took up so much of their resources that sometimes, professional reasoning and agency disappeared altogether. In some cases, this led to detachment, burnout, and patient neglect. Our findings suggest that the public interest in having a well-functioning mental healthcare system requires more room for professional autonomy

Re-turning the Child in Educational Research Methodology

    No full text
The methodological approaches we explore in this article are anchored in Manning’s (2016) concept agencement and Barad’s (2014) concept re-turning. By re-turning the soil of our doctoral dissertations (Westgaard Bjelkerud, 2022, Moxnes, 2019) and exploring agencement as a way of activating the child in research, we draw attention to minor issues within the ecologies of research practices. According to Manning the minor works through the major as a force from within, problematizing the major’s standardisations, opening norms and experiences to variations and potentialities. We re-turn our doctoral projects to actualise minor events by discussing the child as knower; childspacesmattering and child-events. Hence propose the child as political through agencement, and from this thinking of the child in research differently

Yrkesutøvelse i Kunst og håndverk: Lærerens handlingsberedskap i skolehverdagen

    No full text
The study is based on the personal experiences of Art and Crafts teachers’, and discusses what the teachers describe doing during their workday. The aim is to contribute to practice-oriented research in Art and Crafts by examining professional practice from the teacher\u27s perspective. The analysis is based on interviews with nine teachers who give us a glimpse into their workday. The theoretical basis of the study builds on a phenomenological understanding of professional knowledge as action-based knowledge. More precisely, the teachers’ readiness to act is examined, understood as the knowledge and skills teachers need for their regular workday. We ask – what is the Art and Crafts teacher\u27s readiness to act in their day-to-day professional life? The findings highlight the complexity of teachers’ professional practice. The analysis shows that readiness to act is composed of three dimensions: logistics and organisation; the practical, embodied knowledge of the teacher; and the teaching itself.

Altruisme versus egennytte:: Motivasjonen bak sykepleierstudenters studievalg.

In this article, we investigate what motivates young people to study nursing despite low application numbers and negative media coverage. The study highlights the distinction between altruistic and self-interested motivation and compares nursing students on the basis of their gender, age, previous work experience and the priority they gave the programme when they applied. Quantitative data was collected in a digital survey in the spring of 2023 and analysed with SPSS 29. The hypotheses were tested using Pearson correlation, F- and t-test. The sample consisted of 109 nursing students at two educational institutions, who chose to participate. Altruistic and intrinsic motivation were operationalised in the form of 16 statements, which in turn were used to construct two indices. The results indicate that nursing students are motivated by both altruistic and intrinsic motivation factors, but with a predominance of altruistic motivation. The two dimensions are not in conflict with each other. There was little difference in the motivation of different groups. The only one of the background variables investigated that had a significant impact was previous experience of care work.  Empirical data that sheds light on student motivation can contribute to more targeted recruitment efforts. Today\u27s nursing students appear to be a homogeneous group in terms of motivation, but the study also raises the question of whether their emphasis on altruistic values distinguishes them from other applicants.  If young people\u27s self-orientation increases while their altruism decreases, we can expect even greater challenges in recruiting nursing students in the future. Such a situation will require further innovation to make the profession attractive to new generations.I denne artikkelen undersøker vi hva som, tross lave søkertall og negativ medieomtale, motiverer unge mennesker til å studere sykepleie.

Putting It Together: Artographic awareness through collaborative teaching in a musical theatre educational program

    No full text
This article demonstrates how collaborative teaching in the field of musical theatre has served as a platform for uncovering the research methodology of artography. This methodology explores the intricate entanglement of the roles of artist, researcher, and teacher. The reorganization of a new curriculum and collaborative teaching among a group of teachers at the bachelor program in musical theatre at Kristiania University College forms the basis of our reflections. We, the two authors, were involved in this process. We connect these experiences to theories of artography and collaborative teaching. We argue that our multidisciplinary artographic awareness relied on certain conditions of growth within the teacher group. These growth conditions include: 1) a culture of sharing pedagogy among colleagues, 2) working beyond an individual’s level of comfort through co-teaching and 3) reevaluating teaching habits.
