The environmental determinants of disease transmission in Medan City

    No full text
Health issues, potentially triggered by environmental conditions and human behaviour, represent a complex challenge, particularly in Indonesia where environmentally related diseases remain a primary cause of mortality. This study aimed to ascertain the spatial distribution of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF), Tuberculosis (TB), and diarrhoea in the city of Medan. The research employed a descriptive analysis of DHF and TB case data aggregated by sub-district, encompassing population, age group, and sex distribution. Acute diarrhoea case data were collected from various community health centres (puskesmas) in Medan City, categorized by puskesmas location, patient age, and dehydration status. The results revealed significant variations in the number of DHF cases across Medan's sub-districts, with Medan Helvetia recording the highest incidence. The distribution of TB cases also varied, with Medan Deli exhibiting the highest number of reported cases. For diarrhoea, Puskesmas Helvetia reported the highest number of cases. The discussion delves into the factors influencing the spatial distribution of these three diseases, including population density, environmental determinants, community behaviour, access to healthcare services, and sanitation conditions. In conclusion, the study highlights that the spread of infectious diseases in Medan City is influenced by a variety of interacting factors. Effective prevention and control efforts necessitate a comprehensive, multi-sectoral approach focusing on robust surveillance, community empowerment, improved access to healthcare, and the enhancement of environmental and sanitation conditions

The importance of determining the production’s amount of a company affects the level of sales supplier such as PT Nusantara Express Mandiri. The ability to predict the level of sales is related in determining the inventory stock. This activity has purpose to optimize the required production and avoid excess or shortage of stock items. So far, the owners of PT Nusantara Express Mandiri have only used the previous month's sales amount as a reference to determine the amount of production to be made. That’s why we need a guideline of calculation which can help determine the amount of chicken dumplings to be produced in the following period. The calculation process in this stud uses The Single Exponential Smoothing Method and The Mean Squared Error (MSE) method. The Single Exponential Smoothing method is used to produce a forecast value for the production of an item in the following month. Meanwhile, the Mean Squared Error (MSE) method is used to calculate the error value. Based on the forecasting in this study, the forecasted value of the item’s production on a certain period will be generated so it can help the company to maintain stock availability and increase work effectiveness an efficiency

This study was conducted to test and analyze the differences in histopathological features of liver tissue between the control group and the treatment group given clove extract (Syzygium aromaticum) with dose variations of 100mg/KgBW, 300mg/KgBW, and 500mg/KgBW. Clove extracts have many bioactivities, including antioxidant, antiinflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, and neuroprotective effects. The antioxidant activity of clove extract is due to the presence of phenolic compounds that can capture free radicals and reduce oxidative stress. The sample in this study was male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar strain weighing 160-200gr and aged 2-3 months. The results of phytochemical tests showed that clove extract contains secondary metabolites in the form of saponins, tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and steroids that help repair liver cells damaged by Staphylococcus aureus bacterial infection. The results of histopathological observations of liver tissue in treatment group 3, namely clove extract with a dose of 500 mg/kg BW, experienced the most significant improvement and approached the control group compared to the other group

This study aimed to investigate the anti-aging effects of clove extract on collagen density and its antioxidant activity in mice exposed to UVB light.. This study is a True experimental study, with the selection of the type of research design used being Post Test Control Group Design, I used a control group and a treatment group given clove extract after UVB exposure. The total number of test animal samples in this study was 24. Test animals were grouped randomly into 4 test groups, and 6 animals in each group. This study concluded that the results of phytochemical analysis showed that clove extract contains flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, steroids, and tannins, with flavonoids as the key to increasing collagen density. The antioxidant activity of clove extract is intense, with an IC50 value of 17.62 ppm, included in the category of powerful antioxidants. Based on the significance test using One-Way ANOVA, it is known that the control and treatment groups have significant differences in collagen density. The treatment group has a denser collagen density than the control group, and the results of histopathological observations show that the control group produces collagen growth that is included in the thin category. In contrast, the treatment group that was smeared with clove extract is included in the dense category. These results indicate that clove extract, with its high antioxidant capacity, can be a potential anti-aging agent by increasing collagen density
