Get PDFAs high-performance athletes who concurrently taught physical education and sports in France in the second half of the twentieth century, the 102 women in our cohort—especially those who were mothers—illustrated unusual ways of structuring their free time. Their paths necessarily imposed demanding social and familial conditions, in accordance with the French approach to the production of elite athletes and without the systematic redistribution of tasks and roles within couples. They thus appear much less “protected” than the athletes’ recollections tend to suggest.Sportives de haut niveau tout en étant enseignantes d’éducation physique et sportive dans la France du second XXe siècle, les 102 femmes de notre corpus illustrent des formes inhabituelles d’articulation de temps sociaux, en particulier lorsqu’elles sont mères de famille. Leurs parcours se sont déployés dans desconditions sociales et familiales astreignantes, conformément à la logique française de production des élites sportives et sans être systématiquement accompagnés d’une transformation de la répartition des tâches et des rôles dans les couples.
