The documents cover the period from the sixteenth to nineteenth century and provide information about the patrimony of the house, its social position and the political activities of Pedro Ventura de Puga during the firts half of the nineteenth century. The first part is focused on the origin and evolution of patrimony, way of living, nobility abuses (including social and sexual aspects), and the difficulties to keep the social status. In the second part, Pedro Ventura plays the main role: his participation in the War of Independence and the building of the liberal state. He is a relevant character to undestand the adaptation of nobility to an age of political changes and social ad economical survivals. The defense of the constitution and his participation in the liberal regime is compatible with the maintenance of a economy based on the collection of taxes and nobility titles. This study tries to relate geographic and historical information of a group of villages of the Northwest of Galicia in order to attempt an approaching to the origin and evolution of the galician traditional rural settlement. By means of the observation of the current morphology of 97 villages documented as “villa” between 9th and 13th century and its analysis through several quantitatives methods we finally propose a model of evolution of the galician traditional rural habitat from the Late Antiquity to the configuration of its present appearance in the 12th - 13th centuries.
The church of Saint Adrian of Moneixas (Lalín – Pontevedra) was originally a Romanic factory dated about 1170. From that time, it only keeps the arch leading to the High Chapel and the columns on which the arch rests. The columns end in decorated capitals. Between the second and third quarter of the eighteenth century the church suffered several reparations, and it was provided with a sacristy, a window in the apse, two new chapels, the main altarpiece and other three retables and the bell gable -all of them in baroque style.
In 1960 the church is completely transformed - a Sanctuary-Chapel was built as if it was a second nave, and it was dedicated to the Third Carmelite Order.
Inside the wall of the apse epistle and because of some works, there appeared an original mural painting, unknown up to now. We think that it can be dated as belonging to the late fifteenth century or very early in the sixteenth. It represents the Flagellation of Christ, with the particularity that it follows an unusual pattern in Spain taken from the Speculum Humanae Salvationis, in which Christ appears tied to a palm tree while two men belonging to the brotherhood of the “executioners” “sayones” are whipping him.

The intention of the bequest of the archives of Pardo Gil-Taboada to the Archive of the Kingdom of Galicia was that of establishing the genealogy of those who were the original source of such document. These notes attempt to sketch the profile of a noble family from they left the first traces of their existence, to well into the XX century. Going beyond the simple enumeration of individuals – “as if the nobility had no other function than the reproductive” – requires the addition of evidence about the way individuals behaved and collective traits and predispositions of the family group. Hence it is hoped that in future researchs this guide will facilitate and provide data about the formation of a family heritage and criteria on its administration, on the role played by women in the accumulation of wealth, attitudes towards life and the participacion by the nobility in the economic development of Galicia, and other aspects which may be of interest to both historians of sociology and economics.
The author of Vita Fructuosi, probably a monk follower of Saint Fructuosus of Braga in the area of Gallaecia, shows in this biography an evident sense of rooting in the monastic Tradition, specially in the Egyptianeastern one, and also he declares a strong Roman-Catholic and Hispanic conscience. As the highest expression of it, he presents Saint Fructuosus with the same merits of the Egyptian monks and, joined to Saint Isidorus of Seville, as a light for Spain, for the Western and for the whole Catholic Church: they both are two causes of glory for a Visigothic Spain which fells herself as Roman and Catholic.
The cohors II Asturum et Callaecorum was recruited in the last years of the Augustan period or during the early years of Tiberian rule, their first soldiers being most probably trained in the camp of the legio X Gemina (or in VI Victrix).
Its history, as military diplomas show, is linked to Panonian territory, where it occupied the following camps: Bantina, Lugio and Brigetio.
A prefect and a soldier are among its known members. It disappeared as a cohors in the final years of the 2nd century.
