The Role of Priming on Consumers\u27 Purchase Decisions
Get PDFDue to the declining role of brick and mortar in retail sales, retailers and brands alike are looking for ways to maximize the space and capabilities in-store to drive sales. One opportunity that could prove particularly promising in the near future is priming. The theory of priming has long been proven in studies as a way to impact and alter human behaviors. The goal of this study is to explore whether priming’s effect can transfer just as easily to altering consumer’s purchasing behaviors and attitudes while in-store. An experiment was designed to test whether priming stimuli could be useful in influencing consumer’s purchasing behavior, consumption habits, and attitudes toward unhealthy food products. Overall, results from the study were mixed but point to potential for priming effectiveness, especially with further experimentation to ascertain its optimal use

Improving time estimation in witness memory
No full textThe present study sought to determine whether witness memory for duration could be improved. In three studies, we examined the effects of unpacking (breaking an event into its component parts), anchoring (supplying participants with a reference duration), and summation (summing component estimates). Participants watched a video-recorded mock crime and provided duration estimates for components of the crime (e.g., casing the car, unlocking the door, etc.) and for the total crime. Results indicate that bias in estimated duration was less for the sum of the parts than it was for the overall duration estimate. Further, the sum of the individual parts did not equal the total estimate, even though all estimates were given in sequence. Summing the component parts could be a more successful intervention than anchoring or unpacking and is easy to employ with witnesses

Synthesis and Characterization of a Tris(phenolate)amine Ligand for the Production of an Iron(III)-centered Catalyst
Get PDFThe use of tris(phenol)amines in the synthesis of iron(III)-based catalysts has been essential to the production of semi-aromatic polymers from epoxides and cyclic anhydrides. In order to create the iron(III)-centered catalytic compound, (ArMeO)3NFe(DMAP), however, we must first be able to reliably create it’s uncoordinated organic ligand in high yields. The goal of this project is to find the variables that optimize the synthesis of the tris(2-hydroxy-4,6-dimethylbenzyl)amine using hexamethylenetetramine, 2,4-dimethylphenol, and catalytic amounts of p-toluenesulfonic acid. We have performed experiments on the molar ratios of reactants, atmosphere, temperature, purification, and stirring for the synthesis. We have also characterized the results via 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and melting point analysis
