Malta’s Relations with Romania in the Last Two Decades of the Cold War: Foreign Policy and Maltese Domestic Politics
In the 1970s Malta’s foreign policy was extended towards Eastern countries. At that time Romania was not on good terms with Warsaw Pact countries. Malta, on the other hand, was taking a determined stance towards a non-aligned policy and during the decade it undertook serious global initiatives to secure peace and stability in the Mediterranean. The two countries found common ground, mainly on peace and security in the Balkans and the Mediterranean. The relations between Valletta and Bucharest made a breakthrough in the first half of the 1980s when both countries were exchanging delegations continuously, however Malta’s positive rapport with Romania was not well received by the opposition party in Malta. This paper aims to analyse the relations between Malta and Romania in the last two decades of the Cold War by highlighting the various themes which characterised their bilateral relations. This research is mainly based on primary sources since research of this kind was never done before
The Dynamics of Afro-Arabic Cultural Resurgence in the Shadow of Civilization
Perhaps and until the close of the 18th century, there was a general stagnation in the intellectual vitality of the Arabic culture. The beginning of the 19th century, signaled the rebirth of the Arabic culture felt first in the Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt, from where it spread gradually in varying degrees to the rest of the Arab world. This cultural resurgence with its full import on the Arab Muslim society particularly in Africa has given rise to Arab national consciousness (nationalism) as well as religious (Islamic) reawakenness, which has a spill over effect on the contemporary World Order. This paper sets to examine the dynamics of the Arabic cultural resurgence, which has found expression in the shifting paradigm of Arabic literary works of some literati and religious revivalism in Africa. It is observed that Arabism has been an integral part of Islam; the activities of the nationalist movement and that of Islamic reformers have political and cultural consequences in the modern world
Romania’s Foreign Policy towards the Countries of the Middle East – Commented in the Egyptian Press (1971)
The article refers to the objective and relevant analysis made by the Egyptian journalist As-Sayed Aliwa on the subject of the diplomatic, political and economic relations between Romania and the countries of the Middle East. It also expounds Romania’s position on the Middle East crisis, emphasising that the Romanian government was supporting the following: the cessation of all military operations in the area; the withdrawal of troops from the occupied Arab territories; a solution for the Palestinian population; a political settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict; ensuring the right to existence of all states in the region
Apariția și evoluția sistemului feroviar în Marea Britanie și Franța în secolul al XIX-lea
The article proposes a comparative analysis of the first stages in the development of railroads in two of Western Europe’s most advanced states (from an economic point of view): France and Great Britain. In addressing the subject, particular emphasis was placed on highlighting elements of similarity and divergence between the two cases. The main issues addressed refer to state intervention in the construction of railways, the effects it has had on society and economic life, and the sources of capital that made this endeavour possible. The study takes into account the distinct chronological frameworks for each of the two cases. While for the UK, the time frame is limited to the first half of the nineteenth century (when the modern railway system first appeared and developed), in France this event occurred later and it also required state intervention to stimulate the process. For this reason, the time frame considered in the French case is marked by the second decade of the July Monarchy (with an emphasis on the 1842 law regarding the building of railways) and by the Second French Empire, a period in which a significant evolution becomes evident in the case of rail transportation
Activitatea Legației române la Londra (1946-1948)
The study analyses the Romanian Legation activity at London, in context of international events that have followed World War II, since 1946, when a Romanian Diplomatic Mission was set up, until 1948, when Romania has entered under the influence of the Soviet Union. Before the internal political changes in our country from 1948, the Romanian Legation’s main objectives were to restore diplomatic and commercial relations between Romania and Great Britain, but after the communist took over, Romanian Legation focused on Great Britain’s reactions towards new Romanian realities
Lucian Boia, Balcic.
The aim of this paper is to present a less researched topic in Romania: the phenomenon Radio Free Europe (RFE), international radio station, which was founded in the late `40s by the National Committee for a Free Europe of the USA, under CIA auspices. On the one hand, it presents the general framework of the establishment and the mission of the RFE, and on the other hand, it customizes the discussion on the Romanian section of Radio Free Europe, on the structure, institutions, associations and international organizations that have supported its activity. The paper ends with the presentation of the methods used by the Romanian security to counter this activity. In other words, the paper highlights the importance of the establishment of this radio station, the role that it had during the Cold War and how the security services of the USSR and the Eastern European countries have tried to counteract its activity, and how in this context, the radio turned into a real „obsession” for them, and the proof consists of the plans made by them during the communist period
Noul Plan de Securitate al NATO pentru Europa după summit-ul din Țara Galilor și impactul său asupra Federației Ruse
The Heads of State and Government of the member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance, have gathered in Wales (4th-5th September 2014) at a pivotal moment for Euro-Atlantic security, because Russia's aggressive actions against Ukraine have fundamentally challenged their vision of a Europe whole. In order to ensure that the Alliance is ready to respond swiftly and firmly to the new security challenges, the NATO states have adopted a Readiness Action Plan, which is focussed, especially, on eastern Europe. In this context, the aim of this paper is to specify the main features of NATO's new Readiness Action Plan and to analyze its impact on the Russian Federation

Avioane civile utilizate de șefii statului român (1957-1991)
On November 4, 1957, an Ilyushin 14 Soviet plane (in VIP version) who was carrying to Moscow a Romanian delegation led by Prime-Minister Chivu Stoica crashed in a forest, nearby Vnukovo airport (Moscow). In this accident died Grigore Preoteasa and three members of the Soviet crew. Fortunately for Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, he had cancelled the trip with that plane a few days before the accident because of a strong flu. Later on, in the early 1970s, the Romanian authorities decided to buy two Boeing 707 American planes in VIP version for being used by President Nicolae Ceaușescu. One of those planes had a very difficult landing on January 10, 1991 at Otopeni (near Bucharest) during a training flight. On the landing, the plane had touched the ground with the both engines from the left wing, which collapsed and let the fuel out from the wing and the sparks have ignited the fuel in a very strong fire
