Nurse with Defibrillator
Defibrillators continue to evolve since they were first demonstrated by Jean-Louis Prévost and Frédéric Batelli, two physiologists from University of Geneva, Switzerland in 1899. This photograph shows a nurse using a newly developed defibrillator from 1968. Today, cutting-edge defibrillators are equipped with advanced technology, increasing the chances of saving lives during sudden cardiac emergencies.https://academicworks.medicine.hofstra.edu/siuh_photo_archive/1012/thumbnail.jp
Patient Receiving Care from Nurse
Staten Island has always had a rich nursing history. Nurses were crucial at all the historic hospitals of Richmond County, including the Black Angels of Sea View Hospital. During the 1930s and 40s, 300 nurses, all African American women, cared for over 2,000 tuberculosis patients. Together, they responded to the frontlines with unwavering courage, after people refused to work. Sea View Hospital was one of only four hospitals in New York City that did not discriminate against African American nurses.https://academicworks.medicine.hofstra.edu/siuh_photo_archive/1014/thumbnail.jp
