AssistIQ - Integrating AI Supply and Capture Intelligence Into OR’s at NSUH
North Shore University Hospital tackled significant revenue loss and workflow inefficiencies stemming from manual charge capture processes for surgical implants and supplies in its high-volume operating rooms. To address this, the facility implemented AssistIQ, an AI-powered image-based tool for automated product recognition and barcode scanning. Rolled out in phases across various OR and procedural areas from April to September 2025, this solution aimed to identify billable materials more efficiently, improve nursing workflow, and provide real-time data to billing teams. The initiative has demonstrated a significant increase in captured revenue and improved operational efficiency, leading to plans for enterprise-wide implementation and integration with EPIC
Incorporating Mindfulness into Daily Workflow for Stress Reduction
Facing high stress and burnout among its ACP teams due to demanding work conditions, NSUH implemented a program offering easily integrated, 5-minute stress-reduction interventions. These included guided meditation, herbal teas, and sensory relaxation. Evaluation via pre/post surveys and feedback showed reduced stress levels, increased demand for mindfulness sessions, and improved productivity and clinical performance, ultimately fostering better camaraderie, morale, and coping strategies
Religion And Spirituality: Impact on Patient Outcomes through Nurse Interventions
This initiative addresses the need for a standardized approach to assessing religious and spiritual needs in oncology patients, recognizing their impact on coping mechanisms, satisfaction, and overall health outcomes. Despite Northwell\u27s existing policy, current admission procedures lack a comprehensive spiritual assessment beyond asking about chaplaincy. Drawing on evidence that highlights the positive effects of spiritual care on pain, anxiety, depression, and coping, the project proposes implementing the FICA Spiritual History Tool. This questionnaire, provided to patients upon admission, aims to facilitate a more in-depth understanding of their spiritual/religious needs, thereby improving patient and family coping and promoting holistic, patient-centered care
