Higher education in Mozambique during covid-19
Get PDFThe current covid-19 pandemic that the world is experiencing is leading us to unexpected and complex context. The Covid-19 crisis has brought the disruption of higher education systems in Mozambique, affecting approximately 239 600 students and 5716 teachers by closing all institutions. The emergence of COVID-19 awakened controversy over the role of HEI. Questions have been raised about the role of HE in Mozambique to reach certain societal agendas – democratization, economic development and innovation. There is a demand for a full participation of university outside academia, both in society and in business. Thus, the study provides an overview of the higher education in Mozambique during covid-19 crisis. Methodologically, the study uses a comprehensive literature review, policy document analysis and statistical data from various official sources. While others students are coping well with online learning, others are experiencing difficulties due to lack of digital literacy and poor infrastructures. Despite effort over the last two decades, Mozambique has one of the lowest (20.9%) internet penetration rate of the population and one of the highest data cost in Africa as proportion of income. Thus, polices and effective strategies about connectivity, data cost, digital skills training and internet infra-structure must be considered to ensure inclusive education
Gender Comparison Of Alpha-Fetoprotein, CD4, Albumin and Some Liver Enzymes in Symptomatic HIV Subjects on Antiretroviral Therapy
Get PDFThe emergence of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) has remained an issue of global discuss till date as it continues to invade and ravage the world’s population despite the efforts been made globally at tackling the impact of the virus. This is a case controlled study designed to comparatively evaluate the alpha-fetoprotein, CD4+ T-cell count, albumin and some liver enzymes activities in male and female symptomatic HIV subjects on antiretroviral therapy in NAUTH Nnewi, South Eastern Nigeria. A total of seventy one (71) participants who were aged between 18 and 60 years attending the voluntary counseling and testing unit (VCT) and antiretroviral therapy unit (ART) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi as well as 25 control subjects were randomly recruited for the study . CD4 count, alpha fetoprotein (AFP), albumin, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase activities were estimated by standard laboratory methods. Results showed no significant differences in the mean values of AFP, CD4 count, albumin, ALT, AST and ALP compared between male and female symptomatic HIV infected individuals on ART and symptomatic HIV infected male and female subjects NOT on ART (p>0.05) respectively. Also, there was no significant difference in ALT and AST activities when compared between male and female HIV seronegative control (p>0.05) although ALP activity was significantly higher in female control subjects than in males (p=0.01). This revealed no gender specific differences in mean values of alpha fetoprotein, albumin, CD4 T-cell count, and liver enzyme activities between male and female HIV infected symptomatic individuals on antiretroviral therapy and symptomatic HIV infected persons NOT on antiretroviral therapy

No full textThis study aims to describe and evaluate government policies and strategies in overcoming the problem of poverty. The research method used in this study is the research approach used is descriptive qualitative. The results of this study indicate that many poverty alleviation programs carried out by the government have not yet brought significant change. The strategies that have been taken to overcome poverty not only prioritize economic aspects but pay attention to other dimensions to increase capacity and encourage productivity. The strategy chosen was to improve the basic ability of the poor to increase income, involving the poor in the whole process of poverty reduction; empowerment strategy. To support the success of this strategy, it should be done thoroughly, integratedly, across sectors, and adapted to the conditions of Indonesian social diversity
Combinatorial Identities with Several Kinds of Degenerate-Daehee Sequences
Get PDFIn this paper, we mainly make use of the probabilistic method to calculate several different moment representations of the degenerate Daehee numbers of the third kind with degenerate log function. We also obtain the moment expressions of the degenerate Daehee numbers of higher-order and degenerate Daehee numbers of the second kind. When deriving the moment representations of degenerate Stirling numbers and the degenerate Bernoulli numbers, we arrive at the combinatorial identities of relationships of them and we prove them by the probabilistic method
