Near- And Sub-barrier Fusion Of The Be7+ Ni58 System
Evaporation proton yields were measured for the fusion of the radioactive proton-rich nucleus Be-7 onto a Ni-58 target at six near-barrier energies. Total fusion cross sections were deduced by using calculated proton multiplicities. The resulting fusion excitation function shows a considerable enhancement with respect to calculations for a bare potential, even for energies above the Coulomb barrier. Inelastic couplings can account for the enhancement at the highest energy. Total fusion channels nearly saturate the total reaction cross section in the measured energy region. Comparison with previous results scaled appropriately for Be-7 + (Al-27, U-238) shows good agreement
Social Benefits Of Humility: Initiating And Maintaining Romantic Relationships
Previous research has highlighted the social nature of humility. In three studies, we provide evidence that humility facilitates the initiation and maintenance of romantic relationships. In Study 1, very humble potential dating partners, relative to less humble partners, were rated more favorably and were more likely to elicit intentions to initiate a romantic relationship. Study 2 was a conceptual replication of Study 1 that provided evidence that participants find humble potential dating partners more attractive than arrogant dating partners. In Study 3, we examined perceptions of humility in participants in proximal or long-distance relationships. We found that humility buffers against unforgiveness in long-distant relationships. Although long-distance relationships were associated with greater unforgiveness, this effect was only present when partners were viewed as having low humility. Together, these findings highlight the social benefits of humility in initiating and maintaining romantic relationships

Hope College Abstracts: 13th Annual Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Creative Performance
The 13th Annual Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Creative Performance was held on April 11, 2014 in the Richard and Helen DeVos Fieldhouse at Hope College and featured student-faculty collaborative research projects. This program is a record reflective of those projects between the 2013-2014 academic year
The Flickering Torch Mystery
Winner of the 2014 Van Wylen Library Altered Book Award
Artist Statement: The title of the book The Flickering Torch MysterY , for me dictates the form of the book, that being a flashlight. The images and text of the book become less important than the physical form, but still remain relevant to the overall reception of the book. The title, images and text have a humorous relationship with the form, one that can be read in direct relationship with the title, and one that can give a metaphorical interpretation of the book as a tool for illumination.https://digitalcommons.hope.edu/altered_book/1092/thumbnail.jp
Lightning Round: Moving Those MARCs: Workflows For Loading Library Catalog Holdings To A Discovery Layer
After adding the discovery layer 1Search at Hope College, we had to quickly adapt our cataloging workflows to reflect our library\u27s holdings within this product. Quarterly loads of the institution\u27s full catalog holdings are sent in MARC record format, as well as daily updates and deletes to keep the records in 1Search current. This poster aims to present workflows for sending discovery layer updates and deletes, as well as considerations for technical services departments when deciding on discovery layer services. Academic libraries which currently have a discovery layer or are considering one will find this poster most helpful
