Racial Profiling occurs when police investigate, stop, frisk, or search a person because of their race, ethnicity, nationality or religion. Best known is the stopping and searching of people of color for traffic violations, called DWB or driving while black or brown. The tragic events of September 11 brought racial profiling to the forefront as Arabs, Muslims, and South Asians were removed from planes, held in detention, and targeted for questioning and deportation by federal and state law enforcement. The Law In Tribeca series hosted a panel discussion featuring David Harris, Professor of Law at the University of Toledo and author of Profiles in Injustice, and speakers from the Campaign Against Racial Profiling of the American Civil Liberties Union; New York Law School; New York Civil Liberties Union; and the South Asian community. The program was being co-sponsored by the New York Civil Liberties Union, the Campaign Against Racial Profiling-ACLU, and the Open Society Institute.https://digitalcommons.nyls.edu/remembering911/1103/thumbnail.jp
