Symbolism of Victorian Society in the Anthropomorphism of the Peter Rabbit Picture Book (1901)
This paper explores the anthropomorphic elements in Beatrix Potter\u27s Peter Rabbit and their role in reflecting Victorian societal values. Through the depiction of Peter wearing human-like attire, notably his blue jacket, and standing upright, Potter imbues the character with human qualities, making him relatable to young readers. This anthropomorphism serves to symbolize both the innocence and adventurous spirit of childhood, while highlighting the tension between curiosity and the moral lessons of obedience and responsibility. The garden, as a space of both adventure and danger, mirrors the Victorian ideal of childhood exploration within the confines of authority. Peter\u27s journey—marked by disobedience, mischief, and eventual growth—illustrates the duality of childhood: innocence coupled with the need for guidance. By balancing exploration with consequences, Potter’s narrative conveys timeless moral lessons, making Peter Rabbit a relatable, enduring story for both children and adults that transcends its Victorian context. The story’s appeal lies in its ability to speak to universal themes of personal growth and the balance between freedom and discipline. Potter’s use of anthropomorphism, coupled with her nuanced portrayal of childhood, ensures that Peter Rabbit remains an essential piece of literature that continues to resonate across generations
The Implementation of Social Entrepreneurship in Participatory Breeding Program of Bali Cattle in Barru Regency
Rural development plays a crucial role in strengthening a nation’s economy, with the agricultural sector serving as a key driver of growth. Among its sub-sectors, the livestock industry, particularly cattle farming, requires continuous improvement. Barru Regency in South Sulawesi is recognized as a national center for beef cattle development and breeding; however, rural cattle farming in the area still faces challenges that threaten its sustainability. The Maiwa Breeding Center (MBC) represents an innovative cattle-breeding partnership program designed to empower smallholder farmers through sustainable business practices. This study employed a qualitative exploratory approach to analyze the implementation of social entrepreneurship elements within MBC’s Participatory Breeding Program. Data were obtained from 32 purposively selected informants through interviews, observations, and literature review. The results show that MBC demonstrates all key elements of social entrepreneurship: social value creation through increased farmer income and capacity; civil society built on trust, networks, and shared norms; social innovation in mentorship, profit-sharing, and marketing; and economic activity through business skill development, financial access, and product diversification. This study introduces a novel framework linking social entrepreneurship and sustainable livestock development, demonstrating how participatory breeding programs can effectively strengthen rural economies in tropical regions.

Pembentukan dan Makna Gairaigo dalam Anime Yuru Camp Season 1 (2018)
In the era of globalization, the Japanese language has increasingly absorbed foreign vocabulary, particularly English, a phenomenon known as Gairaigo. This can be observed across various fields, including in the dialogues of the anime Yuru Camp Season 1 (2018), which depicts the use of Gairaigo in outdoor activities. This study aims to analyze the formation and meaning of gairaigo in Yuru Camp Season 1 (2018) through a morphosemantic approach based on Nomoto’s (2019) theory of gairaigo formation. Gairaigo refers to vocabulary borrowed from foreign languages, particularly English, into the Japanese language. In this research, the researcher uses a descriptive qualitative method to describe and analyze the formation patterns and semantic shifts of gairaigo in the anime. Data were collected through the observation and note-taking technique from the dialogues of 12 episodes of the anime under analysis. The results show that there are 20 gairaigo data points, encompassing various formation categories such as grammatical adaptation, abbreviation, creation (wasei-gairaigo), and konshugo (a combination of wago or kango with gairaigo). The findings suggest that gairaigo in Yuru Camp is not only used in everyday conversation but also undergoes various shifts in meaning depending on the context and usage within popular culture. This study is expected to provide new insights into the role of gairaigo in audiovisual media and how its adaptation process occurs in modern Japanese language
Social Forestry as Solution to Agrarian Conflicts? A Case Study between Oil Palm Smallholders and Industrial Plantations in Jambi, Indonesia
Extraction activities across Indonesia have caused drastic changes to forest ecologies. The Indonesian government responded to this through a policy of Industrial Plantation Forest concessions, which were given to the private sector in the hopes of overcoming damages from forest extraction activities while at the same time utilizing unproductive forest land. However, this policy does not pay attention to the existence of people who de facto control and use the land and has triggered new conflicts around agrarian claims based on different interpretations of land rights. In an effort to resolve conflicts, the government has implemented a community-based forest area management policy, which involves a partnership between local communities and companies known as the social forestry partnership scheme. This scheme is partial tenure in the form of management rights and legality to communities to manage land in forest areas. In this study, we report how the community interprets this program as a solution to agrarian conflicts. Using qualitative methods, this study finds that social forestry has not been entirely accepted by local communities for several reasons. These include the low level of public trust due to the actions taken by the company during the land claim process, demands for property rights from social movements that were not fulfilled through this scheme, and the community\u27s continued cultivation of oil palm, which is a non-forest crop, on their land. The last reason requires the community to replace their plantations with non-oil palm plantations if they wish to participate in the social forestry program. This research further examines how the community\u27s readiness to adopt non-oil palm plantations is influenced by factors of income, convenience, socio-cultural and ecological adaptation, and the potential for new conflicts to arise
The Patchwork Quilt of Global Mangrove Conservation: Mapping the Landscape of International Treaties
Mangroves at the land-sea interface offer invaluable goods and services through their unique ecosystem. Society has responded by developing governance mechanisms to manage these resources sustainably, which is crucial for societal well-being. The global environmental governance landscape is a complex network of treaty-based regimes addressing various ecological challenges. This study aims to examine the treaty-based regimes governing mangrove conservation, systematically mapping and identifying authoritative global mangrove regimes. It analyses the fragmentation scale regarding synergies, conflicts, and neutral relationships between global environmental treaties. Online scoping reviews and content analysis revealed that the Ramsar Convention serves as the legal authority of the global mangrove regime. The study highlights positive interactions and cooperative mechanisms between the mangrove regime and 17 other environmental regimes. Future research should explore how regime secretariats customise policies to make them legally binding and synergise fragmented regimes, emphasising robust inter-regime communication and joint initiatives. Additionally, China’s management of the International Mangrove Centre presents a promising research avenue, focusing on the sustainable conservation and use of mangroves
