Probabilistic Evaluation of Seawall Performance Against Wave Run-Up and Overtopping Under Variable Water Levels at Serui Fuel Terminal

    Get PDF
Seawalls are one of the coastal protection structures commonly used to reduce the risk of wave overtopping, especially in critical coastal infrastructure. At the Fuel Terminal in Serui, overtopping events have been recorded causing damage to several facilities, even under moderate wave conditions. This study evaluates the performance of the existing seawall under the combined influence of probabilistic waves (H2%, H10%, H33%) and sea level variations (MSL and HWL). A 20-year wave dataset (2002–2021) obtained from ECMWF was statistically analyzed, followed by theoretical wave transformation toward the shoreline. Wave run-up was calculated based on the Iribarren-type formulation and empirical equations, in which the 2% exceedance run-up (R2%) was estimated using the probabilistic extreme wave height (H2%) following established empirical correlations for smooth seawalls. Overtopping discharge was estimated using an exponential formula and compared with established overtopping impact classifications. Results indicate that under High Water Level (HWL) conditions, all run-up values exceeded the seawall crest elevation (+1.93 m relative to MSL), with R2% reaching 3.3 m and a maximum overtopping discharge of 92 l/s/m, corresponding to a high functional damage risk. Wave overtopping does not compromise the structural integrity of the seawall but can cause significant functional damage to facilities and operation behind the wall. Even under MSL conditions, overtopping still occurred for extreme wave conditions (H2%), These results are consistent with field observations in 2020, confirming that the existing seawall geometry and smooth surface contribute to limited wave energy dissipation. Unlike conventional deterministic assessments, this study introduces a probabilistic and field-validated evaluation framework that integrates run-up and overtopping analysis under varying water levels, providing a more realistic basis for assessing seawall performance for future adaptive redesign strategies

Ingatan Yang Mencekam : Studi Antropologi Memori Tentang Konflik Di Padamarari Poso

    No full text
The Poso conflict has left a profound collective memory among communities in the affected villages, including Bancea (Padamarari). While previous studies have examined the dynamics of violence and peacebuilding in Poso, there remains a limited anthropological understanding of how social memory is constructed, transmitted, negotiated, and mobilized by local communities in their post-conflict everyday life. This study aims to explore how traumatic experiences and lived memories of the conflict are reconstructed by different social groups, and how these memories shape reconciliation practices, intergroup relations, and long-term social stability. This research employs a qualitative anthropological approach involving twelve key informants, including customary leaders, women survivors, youth, and village officials. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and field documentation over one month of fieldwork. Thematic analysis was applied to identify memory patterns, meaning-making processes, and the social mechanisms that underpin the reproduction of collective memory. The findings reveal three main insights. First, the memory of violence remains deeply embedded in villagers’ narratives and forms part of the community’s collective identity. Second, “strategic forgetting” emerges as an adaptive strategy used by community members to maintain social harmony and avoid renewed tensions. Third, the cultural value of Sintuwu Maroso serves as a key reconciliation mechanism, enabling trust-building across groups and facilitating the restoration of social cohesion. This study contributes to the broader literature on memory and post-conflict anthropology in Indonesia by demonstrating that collective memory functions not only as a historical burden but also as a social resource for strengthening community-based reconciliation.Latar belakang.

Evidence-Based Practice in Physiotherapy: Challenges, Clinical Reasoning, and Strategic Pathways in Developing Contexts

    Get PDF
Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) has become a fundamental paradigm in modern physiotherapy, highlighting the integration of the best available research evidence with clinicians’ professional expertise and patient values to guide informed clinical decision-making. Since its formal integration into the health sciences, Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) has been extensively advocated as a means to improve patient outcomes, enhance professional accountability, and optimize the efficiency of healthcare resource utilization (1). Although these expected advantages exist, the integration of EBP from theoretical models into everyday physiotherapy practice remains uneven and difficult within the industry. These difficulties are especially evident in low- and middle-income nations, such as Indonesia, where challenges like restricted access to high-quality evidence, differences in educational training, and systemic limitations continue to influence clinical practices (2). In this scenario, analyses based on perspectives are crucial to go beyond standard descriptions of EBP and to critically assess how evidence is interpreted, negotiated, and implemented in actual physiotherapy settings (3). This article, therefore, delves into the essential conceptual foundations, clinical reasoning processes, and strategic pathways associated with EBP in physiotherapy. It draws on both educational and clinical experiences to underscore opportunities for more contextually responsive and sustainable implementatio

    Get PDF
This study aims to identify and describe the specific difficulties experienced by Grade X students at SMA Negeri 3 Palu in writing descriptive texts in English. More specifically, the study seeks to examine students’ understanding of the generic structure of descriptive texts, their use of vocabulary, and their application of grammatical rules in writing. A qualitative descriptive research design was employed to provide a detailed picture of students’ writing problems based on their own responses. Data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed to Grade X students who had learned descriptive text writing in their English classes. The findings reveal that students face several challenges when writing descriptive texts. Many students had difficulty distinguishing between the identification and description parts of the text, which often resulted in unclear or incomplete descriptions. Students also reported limited vocabulary, making it difficult for them to express ideas clearly and vary their word choices. In addition, grammatical problems, particularly in the use of tenses and sentence structure, were frequently identified as major obstacles in their writing. These results are consistent with previous studies that report similar difficulties among EFL learners in writing descriptive texts. Limited mastery of vocabulary, grammar, and text organization has been widely recognized as a key factor affecting students’ writing performance. The findings suggest that students need more structured guidance and practice to develop these skills. Therefore, this study recommends that English teachers provide focused instruction and targeted training to help students better understand text structure, expand their vocabulary, and improve grammatical accuracy in descriptive writing

    Get PDF
This study examines women’s language features in global media discourse by analyzing Blackpink’s interview on the Zach Sang Show podcast. It explores how Lakoff’s theory operates in the context of multilingualism and global celebrity status. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected from the transcription of Blackpink’s 2019 podcast interview and analyzed using Lakoff’s framework, and the stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña (2014). The findings show that eight out of ten women’s language features were identified in the conversation. Lexical hedges and fillers appeared most frequently (36%), while the second most frequently intensifiers (32%). And rising intonation, empty adjectives, precise color terms, super polite form, avoidance of strong swear words, and emphatic statement occurred less frequently. These results suggest that women’s language features function as strategic linguistic choices shaped by multilingualism and celebrity identity. By integrating Lakoff’s theory to global media and celebrity discourse, this study contributes to the development of sociolinguistic research
