Perceptions about Gossip and Rumours in Academic Organizations
Gossip and rumour, as forms of informal communication in academic organization have attracted little research attention in the literature. This paper examines the perceptions of Turkish academics of gossip and rumours, gossip topics and their relationship with certain organizational cultural issues. A web-based questionnaire was sent to 356 academics working in the communications field. The findings revealed that gossip and rumours are quite common in academic organizations. Internal gossip and rumours are perceived to be more common than the external gossip and rumours. Gossips and rumours about the management and the personnel rights are among the top topics. On the other hand, academics generally have negative opinions about gossip and rumours. However, such negative opinions about gossip and rumours were found to decrease when the perceived organizational democracy and internal communication levels increase. It is clear that academic administrators may not cope with gossip and rumours successfully unless they improve democratic participation and internal communication
An open queuing network-based tool for performance estimations in a shuttle-based storage and retrieval system
Recently, growth in e-commerce has resulted in substantially increased investment in robotic technologies in warehouses, especially for storage and retrieval devices. A shuttle-based storage and retrieval system (SBS/RS) is one of the robotic automated stDepartment of Industrial Engineering, Yasar University, Üniversite Caddesi No: 37–39, Bornova, Izmir, Turkey; Su Information Technologies, Mersinli, Konak, Izmir 35170, Turke

Discharge coefficient for vertical sluice gate under submerged condition using contraction and energy loss coefficients
A novel method is suggested for the determination of flow discharge in vertical sluice gates with considerably small bias. First, in order to derive an equation for the discharge coefficient, energy-momentum equations are implemented to define the physical realization of the phenomenon. Afterward, the discharge coefficient is presented in terms of contraction and energy loss coefficients. Subsequently, discharge coefficient, contraction, and energy loss coefficients were determined through an implicit optimization technique on the data. Data analysis illustrated that there is a meaningful power relationship between the contraction and energy loss coefficients. Thereafter, dimensional analysis is performed and an explicit best-fit regression equation is developed for defining the energy loss coefficient. The obtained equations for contraction and energy loss coefficients were then used in the computation of the discharge coefficient and determination of the flow discharge in the vertical sluice gate. The performance of the developed approach is validated against the selected benchmarks existing in the literature
A comparative review for question answering frameworks on the linked data
Background: One of the state-of-the-art techniques for question answering frameworks is using linked data by converting the user input into SPARQL which is the query language for linked data. Objective: The main target is to emphasize the most fundamental issues while developing a question answering frameworks that accept input in natural language and converting it into SPARQL. Methods: The trend of applying linked data as a data source is gaining popularity among the re-searchers. In this study, question answering frameworks that combine both natural language processing techniques and linked data technologies are examined. Common principles of examined question answering frameworks recognize user intention, enriching natural language input and converting it to a SPARQL query. Results: 9 studies are selected for further examination to be compared by using selection criteria de-fined in the research methodology. Conclusion: Resulting outcomes are represented and compared in detail. In addition to the comparative review of systems, a general architecture of question answering frameworks on the linked data is drawn as an outcome of this study to provide a guideline for the researchers who are studying related research fields
Compensatory Usage of the Internet: The Case of Mukbang Watching on YouTube
Objective: Accumulating empirical research has emphasized that a wide range of online activities-such as using social networking sites-can be performed in order to compensate unattained needs or to cope with negative affect and psychopathological symptoms. Although the correlates of problematic social networking use have been extensively investigated, less is known about problematic YouTube use (PYU), an umbrella term grouping a number of different activities (e.g., viewing of online video games, watching specific YouTube channels). Furthermore, nothing is known concerning increasingly popular and distinct YouTube-related activities such as mukbang watching (i.e., watching livestream "eating broadcasts" where someone eats various foods in front of the camera while interacting with viewers). The aim of the present study was to examine the mediating role of problematic mukbang watching (PMW) on the relationships between depression and loneliness with PYU.
Methods: An online survey that comprised assessment tools for aforementioned variables was administered to 217 mukbang viewers (mean age=20.58 years, range 18-33 years).
Results: Results indicated that PMW was positively related to loneliness and PYU. Depression was positively and directly associated with PYU but was not associated with PMW.
Conclusion: Further research is required to better understand the psychological processes underlying problematic mukbang watching and its association with other mental health conditions (e.g., addictive disorders, eating disorders)
