Volatility Transmission Between the Japanese Stock Market and the Western Stock Market Indices: Time & Frequency Domain Connectedness Analysis with High-Frequency Data
Stock markets are the main source of financial fragility and the spillover effect due to the high level of connectedness. This study focuses on the connectedness between the Japanese stock market and the major Western stock market indices by performing time and frequency-domain connectedness analysis for the period between 4 January 2002, and 29 September 2020. The time-domain analysis shows that there is a high connectedness among stock market indices, and the net transmitter indices are SPX and AEX while net receiver indices are AORD and N225. The frequency-based analysis highlights that the connectedness between markets in the long term contains more information in contrast to short and medium terms. Similar to time-domain results, SPX is the net transmitter and N225 is the net receiver market indices in long term. Moreover, the dynamic analysis results illustrate the turbulent times of the volatility spillover in the long term with high and short-medium run with low spillover index. Dynamically, time-domain and long-term frequency-domain frameworks’ findings give similar time variation illustrations
Exploring barriers to smart and sustainable circular economy: The case of an automotive eco-cluster
he transition process from linear economy to circular economy (CE) has brought many challenges and barriers. The three core concepts, which are smartness, sustainability, and circularity, need to be intertwined and adapted by companies to overcome these barriers. Based on this intertwined structure, this paper presents the concept of Smart and Sustainable Circular Economy (SSCE) at the macro-level and addresses the barriers of SSCE under four main aspects: technology, producers, consumers, and policy. Moreover, these four aspects are investigated for small and medium-sized enterprises of an Eco-Cluster in the automotive industry. The fuzzy DEMATEL method is used to uncover, analyse, and discuss the influencing and affected SSCE barriers critically. Finding these SSCE barriers gives an insight into the underlying problems of CE practices, as the only way to ensure an opportunity to achieve SSCE goals is to overcome them. The principal results show that problems of ownership issues in an Eco-Cluster, lack of governmental support and administrative burden, and lack of effective execution of environmental regulations are found as causal barriers that are difficult to change. Furthermore, lack of integration and collaboration among supply chain partners, ineffective CE framework adoption, and product complexity for CE principles are classified as effect barriers that are easily affected by the other factors and the implications can be shown in the short-term. Besides, the cooperation between supply chain partners can be encouraged to provide a solution to the lack of integration and collaboration between supply chain partners and the adoption of an ineffective CE framework
Analysis of barriers to circularity for agricultural cooperatives in the digitalization era
Purpose: This study aims to propose a novel framework for barriers to circularity within cooperative supply chains. The barriers in the adoption and implementation of circular economy principles are examined within a framework. Design/methodology/approach: Fuzzy best-worst method is used to calculate the weights of barriers and identify the prioritization of barriers to circularity within cooperative supply chain. Findings: “Insufficient implementation of circular economy laws” was found as the most important barrier, followed by “Lack of information”, “Ineffective recycling policies”, “Lack of awareness for circular economy”, “Remanufacturing is a labor-intensive procedure”, “Inconsistent price policies in sources and products”, “Lack of environmental management system”, “Cost of implementation for green activities” and “Lack of R&D capability” barriers, respectively. Research limitations/implications: The number of participant professionals limits the conclusions of the study and reaching more general conclusions. A comprehensive research can be conducted by the participation of a greater number of professionals. Originality/value: Several studies analyzed the barriers to circularity; however, to the best of the authors' knowledge, no study has been taken an approach for barriers to circularity for cooperatives or cooperative supply chains

Data analytics for quality management in Industry 4.0 from a MSME perspective
Advances in smart technologies (Industry 4.0) assist managers of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) to control quality in manufacturing using sophisticated data-driven techniques. This study presents a 3-stage model that classifies products depending on defects (defects or non-defects) and defect type according to their levels. This article seeks to detect potential errors to ensure superior quality through machine learning and data mining. The proposed model is tested in a medium enterprise—a kitchenware company in Turkey. Using the main features of data set, product, customer, country, production line, production volume, sample quantity and defect code, a Multilayer Perceptron algorithm for product quality level classification was developed with 96% accuracy. Once a defect is detected, an estimation is made of how many re-works are required. Thus, considering the attributes of product, production line, production volume, sample quantity and product quality level, a Multilayer Perceptron algorithm for re-work quantity prediction model was developed with 98% performance. From the findings, re-work quantity has the highest relation with product quality level where re-work quantities were higher for major defects compared to minor/moderate defects. Finally, this work explores the root causes of defects considering production line and product quality level through association rule mining. The top mined rule achieves a confidence level of 80% where assembly and material were identified as main root causes
To diversify or not to diversify internationally?
Using alternative measures of return correlations, we show that neither industry nor country correlations exhibit an ever-increasing trend. Instead, correlations jump during recessions with a tendency to revert in stable periods. This keeps international diversification still important despite the financial integration that might have increased correlations permanently. Moreover, the mean of industry correlations is statistically lower than that of country correlations, suggesting that cross-industry diversification is more efficient. Finally, diversifying through industries of emerging markets rather than those of developed markets reduces mean correlations more. These results are robust to several correlation definitions
Materiality of Mid-Century Modern Furniture in Turkey
The modern interior emerged as a complex phenomenon, an interchange of modernity and its materiality. One of the constituent elements of this complexity is the progressive relationship with technology. This paper explores the materiality of furniture in terms of its material qualities, production technologies, craft component and inefficacies. The paper focuses on mid-century modern furniture in Turkey as a unique example in the history of furniture design, especially in terms of materiality. In order to understand the material qualities of this historical context, oral history provided a vital methodological tool to uncover the philosophy behind production, contemporary conditions and the designers' personal experiences through their own words. This enables the study to add significantly to the limited knowledge about modern furniture and especially materials in Turkey. The analysis is divided into three parts: materials, production technologies and difficulties. By investigating the material qualities of a furniture piece, the study extends beyond mere forms or styles to cultural productions that narrate the country's efforts to develop and thrive. In addition, it reveals the evolution of both materials and manufacturing techniques. Finally, by connecting these stories to specific furniture pieces, this study documents furniture not just as an artefact but also as the final product of an assemblage of people, materials, and techniques
