Research on Pentecostalism in Sweden
No full textThis article aims to orientate and introduce potential researchers into Swedish Pentecostal movements, or those who wish to provide an overview of Scandinavian Christianity, by giving a brief summary of the history of Pentecostalism in Sweden and an overview of the main academic monographs that have been produced on this particular branch of Christianity. The idea is to highlight areas where we find relevant research and to point to areas into which there has been little or no investigation. Following, by way of introduction, a brief historical sketch, there is a note on spirituality before we are given a review of some thirty major academic works on the subject that a potential researcher would need to take into consideration

Interpretation of a romanesque figure frieze.The subject of this article is the figure frieze on the Romanesque font in Östra Hoby Church in Scania, Sweden, executed in the 1160s by a stone mason who had links with Lund Cathedral. The frieze has long been an art historical enigma, but it clearly depicts the legend of a saint. It consists of five scenes interpreted here as depicting the story of Canute the Holy, King of Denmark (Knut den helige), killed in Odense 1086 and canonized in 1099. This interpretation is based on the legends concerning King Canute and Danish chronicles from the 12th and 13th centuries. The most detailed version of the legend was written by the English monk Ælnoth about 1122, and the most important profane narrative forms part of the Knytlingasaga, written shortly after 1250. The five reliefs on the font are interpreted as: 1) King David, represented as a Patriarch and Rex Musicae; 2) King Canute sitting with an unknown person at an altarlike table; 3) The deathbed of King Canute in 1086 and his elevation in 1095; 4) Canute’s father-in-law, Count Robert of Flanders, and the two brothers who (according to the Knytlingasaga) were sent to Robert in order to negotiate the release of Oluf, Canute’s brother; 5) Queen Edel, Canute’s widow, standing in front of the pope who proclaims the canonization of Canute
Localising and acculturating the global: the Healing Rooms prayer service network in Finland
No full textThe article addresses the theme of accommodating an imported model of international religious practice into a national context. The case in question involves an intentional ’translation’ of an American Pentecostal concept of a lay-based prayer service into a Nordic, rather secularised Lutheran context. This recent newcomer into the Finnish religious field is the Healing Rooms network which is a predominantly charismatic Christian, globally expanded, interdenominational intercessory prayer service. This study of Healing Rooms is based on material compiled by means of ethnographic methods. According to the interviewees, the idea of a prayer clinic must be adjusted culturally and nationally, even though the basic function of the practice is the same everywhere. In Finland this means adjusting the service to fit a culture and society in which the mainline Lutheran Church has traditionally had simultaneously a distant and dominating role on the religious scene

A German Royal Representational Form in Denmark?During the late Middle Ages, Danish kings and queens donated artefacts and fittings to local churches. Most spectacular was the huge altarpiece given to the Franciscan Convent of Odense by Queen Christine, a work of Claus Berg now in the Cathedral of Odense. The civil war in 1533–1536 left Denmark impoverished. The reformation king Christian III was not a donor, and he is hardly reflected in Danish ecclesiastical art. His son, Frederik II (1559-1588) however, was a splendid renaissance ruler. In 1572, he married his cousin Sophie of Mecklenburg and their alliance was rendered in the language of apotheosis – the apex being the canopy in the great hall of Kronborg Castle in Elsinore. At this point of convergence of the line of Danish kings, the royal couple is invested with the power of history. This way of identifying with ancestors seems to be a strategy of younger renaissance courts in Germany such as Mecklenburg, where the elector Ulrich and his consort Elizabeth of Denmark had their genealogy constructed by the historian and humanist Chyträus. Genealogy became the main motif of Philipp Bandin’s enormous funerary monument to Ulrich, Elizabeth and Anna of Pomerania in the Cathedral of Güstrow. In contrast, Frederik and Sophie of Denmark are not shown as kneeling donors: their personal mottoes are equated with quotations of the Bible; their monograms appear at the same level as the monograms of Christ, and they even seem to be connected with His rising from the grave or ascending into heaven

No full textMed utgångspunkt i den österbottniske mångsysslaren Anders Svedberg (1832–1889) – samt med hjälp av ett historiebruks- och minnesperspektiv – undersöker Jakob Dahlbacka begreppet ”religiöst historiebruk”. Anders Svedberg växte upp, levde och verkade i det av väckelsen starkt präglade Munsala i svenska Österbotten. Han var en man av folket som kände till dess seder, bruk och historia. Därför kunde han ösa ur dess historia när han skrev sina tidningsartiklar och när han i lantdagen talade för allmogens demokratisering. Genom anspelningar på och hänvisningar till det förflutna refererade han ofta till kyrkohistoriska händelser i sin argumentation. Men vilka händelser använde han sig av? Varför hänvisade han till just de händelserna? Hur gjorde han det, och i vilket syfte? Utifrån dessa konkreta frågor ger undersökningen förslag på vad som allmänt kan tänkas karakterisera ett religiöst historiebruk. Den utgör därmed ett bidrag till det aktuella och framväxande forskningsfältet kring historiebruk och kulturellt minne
Development of Cracks on Delayed Release Film of Hygroscopic Cores: A Review of the Tablet and Coating Formulations, Coating Process and Storage Conditions.
Get PDFAn Aqueous dispersion of methacrylic acid copolymer NF is extensively used for delayed release coating in the pharmaceutical industry. However, one of the concerns is the developments of cracks on the coating film of hygroscopic tablet. The cracks on the film develop during storage. The film formed using methacrylic acid copolymer NF dispersion is inherently brittle. Therefore, the film cracks during storage especially when exposed to elevated heat and humidity. In general, the film cracks due to the mechanical stress during the coating process or by stretching effects in tablets after the coating process. The important factors to maintain the integrity of the coating film are: formulation of the core tablet and its hardness, formulation of the coating dispersion and coating process parameters. Core tablet hardness, its relaxation property, water content and content of the insoluble components in the coating formulation, temperature and relative humidity (RH) of the inlet air influence the film quality and integrity. in this paper, the probable reasons for the development of crack on the film of the hygroscopic core are discussed with reference to the properties of the core tablet, coating formulation (e.g., polymer, plasticizer, and insoluble excipients) and the coating process parameters
