Curriculum (Re-Defined)
In this analysis, I provide a working definition of “curriculum” using a social justice framework. In grounding my definition of curriculum in a social justice context, I create a definition for curriculum which is inclusive, transformative and holistic than historic conceptualizations. In order to demonstrate the importance of a social-justice grounded definition of curriculum, I analyze the curricular issues of College X and provide recommendations for improvement using my understanding of curriculum
The Impacts of Current Practice and Proposed Changes to Title IX Religious Exemption as it Concerns LGBTQ+ Students in Higher Education
In this legal memo, I analyzed the current impact of the religious exemption provision to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 on LGBTQ+ students, as well as how the Department of Education’s proposed changes to Title IX affect this provision and potentially worsen the already negative consequences of the practice on this student population. To conduct this analysis, I first discussed the context of the regulatory change and described the impacted student population, followed by a review of the history of Title IX’s religious exemption provision. I then conducted two separate “Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat” (SWOT) analyses of the provision; one in its current form and another following its proposed chang- es, wherein I identified and discussed the internal strengths and weaknesses for religious institutions invoking this right, as well as the external opportunities and threats of the provision on the impacted LGBTQ+ student population
