Effect of Rainflow Cycle Number on Fatigue Lifetime of an Arm of a Vehicle Suspension System

    Get PDF
Fatigue is considered as one of the main cause ofmechanical properties degradation of mechanical parts.Reliabilities methods are appropriate for fatigue analysis usinguncertainties that exist in fatigue material or process parameters.Current work aims the study of the effect of the Rainflow cyclenumber on fatigue lifetime of an upper arm of the vehiclesuspension system. The major part of the fatigue damage inducedin suspension arm is caused by two main classes of parameters.First parameter characterizes materials properties and a secondone describes equivalent force generated by road excitation andpassenger’s number. Therefore, representative sampling ofYoung's modulus and equivalent loading are selected as inputparameters to conduct repetitive finite elements simulations byMonte Carlo (MC) algorithm. Strain-life approach based onManson-coffin and Ramberg-Osgood equations is used in orderto determine fatigue lifetime of each combination of inputparameters. Thereafter, response surface is built according topreselected performance function. A PYTHON script wasdeveloped to automatize finite element simulations of the upperarm according to a design of experiments. Preliminary resultsshow Rainflow primary cycles to have significant effect onobtained cycle’s number to fracture. Load generated byexcitation road have a remarkable quasi-linear inverselyproportional effect on fatigue lifetime

Transmission Scheme for D2D Multicast Communication in LTE-Advanced Networks

    Get PDF
We consider D2D multicast communication whichreuses cellular uplink frequency resources in LTE-Advancednetworks. In this case, the cellular uplink signal will interfere tothe D2D link communication. The data transmission rate of D2Dmulticast communication is determined by the user having theworst signal-to-interference plus noise (SINR) condition.Conventional schemes assume that the D2D transmitter employsSC-FDMA transmission scheme because it is already used forcellular uplink transmission in LTE-Advanced system. However,if SC-FDMA is employed in D2D transmitter, it is very difficultto reduce the interference from the cellular user in D2D receiverand D2D multicast transmission is allowed only when theinterference from the cellular user is very small in all userswithin the D2D multicast group. In this paper, we propose toemploy MC-CDMA transmission scheme in D2D multicasttransmitter. The interference signal from the cellular user can beeliminated by applying the interference cancellation schemes inthe D2D multicast receivers and D2D communication becomespossible even in the high interference cases. Through simulation,we show that the proposed scheme has better SINR performancethan the conventional scheme

Mechanical Characterization of Al-Sicp– Fly Ash Composites

    Get PDF
Al-SiCp-fly ash hybrid metal matrix composites have been prepared by fixing the percentage of SiCp (5%) and varying the percentage of fly-ash (5%, 10 % and 15% by weight) using stir casting technique. Three cylindrical samples have been prepared of 20 mm diameter. Tensile and compression specimens were made by machining as per standards and tested in Universal Testing Machine for evaluation of strength in tension and length of compression till fracture. Hardness of the specimens was measured by Brinell hardness tester. From the results obtained it has been observed that the tensile strength of these specimens increase with increase in the percentage of fly ash. Similarly the compressive strength also increases as force required for compression is higher for higher percentages of fly ash. Out of the three composites , the composite with 15% fly ash has exhibited reasonable tensile, compressive strengths and moderate hardness. This composite may be used in structural applications where light weight and high strength are the criteria

Business Environment as an Indicator of Regional Disparities

    Get PDF
In the current process of globalization, the merging of countries in the social, cultural, political as well as economic matters is taking place. Economic area is mainly represented by the legal units that generate profit. These units bring along creation of jobs, reduction in unemployment, increase of the living standards of the population and thus also increase of the purchasing power of population and related development. EU cohesion policy is aimed to support the least developed regions in the European Union in order to ensure their growth, competitiveness and elimination of regional disparities. One of the tasks is to promote a business environment, which is one of the most important indicators of regional development. The paper deals with the analysis of statistical data of the business environment in the context of regional disparities. The aim of this paper is to analyze the structure of the business environment in Slovakia and examine trends in the number of legal units of individual forms. Through findings it is possible to identify changes among socio-economic situation in regions

    Get PDF
Professional football (soccer) in Europe has become avery powerful entertainment industry from an economical pointof view. This article is particularly interested in the privilegedrelationship between football fans and their favorite professionalclub, while the best players do not hesitate to change clubs whenthey can take advantage of better financial conditions. A researchprogram is proposed for future works. It comprises two researchpropositions: (1) fan attachment to a professional football club isbased on an identity process involving collective assimilation ofvalues, myths and symbols; and (2) professional football clubsbenefit from and even encourage the nomadism of their players, and build their image on elements independent from humancapital

I Whistleblow As I Am a University Student: An Investigation on the Relationship Between Self-Efficacy and Whistleblowing

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to reveal whether there is a relationship between university students' self-efficacy and whistleblowing levels. There are two facts which attribute authenticity to this study. The first is that there are only a limited number of studies in literature dealing with these two variables together. The other is the existence of a certain amount of findings. For instance, foreign literature (literature outside Turkey) asserts that these two variables are associated with one another. It is also claimed that general self-efficacy is the premise of internal whistleblowing. In fact, contrary to the perception, which is very common in Turkish culture, that "a person with high self-efficacy does not engage in whistleblowing for anyone", foreign literature suggests that university students with high selfefficacy are more inclined to whistleblow. In the study, selfefficacy is analyzed in general terms whereas whistleblowing is dealt with under the dimensions of internal whistleblowing, external whistleblowing, and indifference. In this sense, correlation analysis was conducted in order to reveal the relationship between variables, and regression analysis was conducted for the aspect of influence. The sample of the study covers 120 participants studying in Mersin University Erdemli School of Applied Technology and Business and Erdemli Vocational School. According to the analysis results, there are significant relationships between self-efficacy and whistleblowing. The sample of the study was limited to university students due to problems of time and cost and for the sake of making analysis on the sector of education

Over the past few years, the electricityconsumption in the United Arab Emirates(UAE) hasbeyonddoubledaccording to a study done by the managementconsultancy and strategy and it is still at a constant rise.Lighting accounts for a major part of this consumption. Hencethere arises the need to reduce and conserve this energy for thesake of the environment and in turn our future generations. This paper aims at implementing the use of solar energy forelectric energy generation for lighting systems in commercialand residential buildings. It also focuses on reducing energyconsumptions by making use of LED lighting technology, daylighting and suitable lighting controls. Unlike traditionalfossil fuel power generation by coal, oil or gas, energygenerated through solar power is Renewable, clean andenvironment friendly and has no harmful gasemissions. Therefore, a shift to solar power could make a greatdifference in UAE where it is abundantly available all yearround. An experimental prototype of a 20 Watt Solar poweredLighting system using LED’s, a solar charge controller and alight detector sensor is constructed to demonstrate the workingof such anenergy efficient lighting system on a small scale.Using a light designing software daylight harvesting, LED lightplanning and energy efficient building architecture has beendemonstratedand the results have shown good satisfactoryperformance of the overall system design
