Quantitative Analysis of Queue Length of Falah Roundabout (UAE, Sharjah)

Roundabouts have faced a huge development in terms of designing and operation, the reason behind that is to get the most safe and functional design. The functionality is affected by different factors e.g. line width, diameter of the roundabout etc., when the capacity of the roundabout is fully utilized, queue length starts to form in the different approaches, which indicates of a minor or major issue that should be studied. This paper discusses the different factors affecting the queue length of an approach on the roundabout (Al Falah roundabout), after obtaining the data, regression analysis was done to provide a model that can be used for estimating the volume capacity ratio from queue lengths or vice versa. Two other methods were used to compare the obtained model (HCM 2010 Method and Two Minute Rule Method), in addition to a field data collection of the actual timing needed to pass that queue length, which was assigned as the true value of the models and comparing depending on it. Finally, the discussion of the term paper, will include the different concepts of advanced statistical analysis, the will (as expected) contain different types of distributions and the coloration between the keys of the roundabouts design, and will study the limitation and how it can be improved in future

Financial and Qualitative Determinants of Voluntary Environmental/sustainability Reporting in the Canadian Mining Sector

The ever increasing attention given to the environmental threats facing the planet have permeated almost all areas of human endeavor. Accounting and corporate reporting has not been immune to this effect and is a key area of interest. Much of the environmental damage and the public costs associated with its clean-up is a result of commercial activity. Captured under the headings of social responsibility accounting, environmental accounting, integrated reporting or sustainability accounting, there are only limited mechanisms in accounting standards that directly address environmental issues and the associated costs and benefits. The majority of reporting mechanisms over the last three decades are largely voluntary so companies can choose whether or not to provide this type of information to users of financial statements. The existing literature in this area has focused on how these disclosures (voluntary or otherwise) have affected user decision making, primarily investors and creditors, and shareholder value. What factors lead to a decision to do voluntary reporting with respect to environmental issues? This research focusses on the Canadian mining sector (exclusive of oil and gas) and examines the financial and qualitative characteristics of companies and their respective reporting methods to build a generic profile of a company that would most likely to provide such voluntary reporting. Analysis of annual reports and the associated audited financial statements of companies in the sector will provide the raw data to build this generic profile. We can infer that companies that are inclined to report on environmental issues, beyond their regulatory responsibilities, are likely to be better environmental stewards. Understanding the financial and qualitative characteristics and having a profile can aid in regulatory decision making and provide potential and current investors an additional analytical tool for assessing corporate social responsibility with regard to environmental and sustainability issues

Deceptive download buttons are those on the internet which may look like it is meant to do an action but actually does something else which it is not intended by the user. Drive-by installations are those extra software which is installed in a user's device without him noticing it. This paper gives the information about the types of deceptive download buttons and the ways a common user can avoid clicking on such button while browsing the web. A few methods the advertiser may commonly use for making the end user a victim of the deceptive download buttons is discussed here. The methods by which someone can avoid these kinds of buttons are also given in this paper. An idea for the development of an extension to the user's browser, that runs in the background. This warns the user about those buttons prior to the button being clicked. This paper also includes information about drive-by installations of bloatware and the ways in which the end users are being affected by this, how the end user can avoid being a victim of drive-by installations and an idea to develop a tool which runs in the background as a small script in the operating system which will automatically warn the user about the drive-by installations

"Personalized Medicine" : An Innovative Concept

"Personalized Medicine" is about empowering patients to have access to their health information at all times.[1] Empowering implies patient participation through the ongoing process of diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.[1] More importantly, "Personalized Medicine" is about having insights into one's health by being able to visualize, recognize, and take timely corrective action when necessary.[1] As important time may be wasted when looking for information during emergencies resulting in delays and potential medical errors, "Personalized Medicine" offers a way for medical and emergency personnel to immediately obtain accurate, adequate patient information which can be useful, especially if the patient is unable to communicate verbally.[1] By drawing insights from one's health data "Personalized Medicine" enables patients to seek medical care early on and helps them to make the right treatment choices.[1] Storing, retrieving and having access to one's health information, being able to edit and update it when necessary, the ability to draw valuable insight's from one's health data, and the availability of personal health information for quick and easy access by medical personnel and first responders encompasses the concept of "Personalized Medicine".[1] Microchip technology can make patient information more accessible especially in rural and remote areas.[1] It improves productivity and quality of patient care by providing patients with the relevant information for making better treatment choices and reduces the cost of health care through early diagnosis and treatment.[1] A micro-chipped Personalized Medical Card is a convenient medium to store and retrieve up-to-date health information.[1] By conforming to the standards of privacy and security patient's can have access to their health data without compromising their personal information.[1] A subcutaneous gold-plated microchip insert designed to store vital life saving patient information can be accessed via a smartphone, tablet, or other electronic device from anywhere, anytime.[1] The gold-plated microchip implant is inserted underneath the patient's skin and contained in the subcutaneous layer.[1] The gold-plated microchip has a wireless connection with the device using the state-of-the-art technology and can be paired with a software application that can be readily edited and updated.[1] Therefore, the device saves not only extensive amount of time and effort but also eliminates the need for unnecessary medical tests and treatment.[1] In addition, timely access to updated information can prevent written or spoken patient information which might be lost in transition or translation thereby leading to medication error or wrong treatment.[1] A gold-plated microchip inserted inside the patient's body as a medical device or tagged to a medical device allows patient self-monitoring of vital statistics of specific conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney functions and other metrics associated with different aspects of body function.[1] It acts as a sensor which enables patients to monitor vital parameters of their condition precisely in real time and allows them to lead independent and more productive lives without the need for continuous monitoring or medical supervision.[1] It could potentially be used for investigating structural and functional abnormalities of the heart, liver, kidney, etc.[1] The gold-plated microchip can prove useful in the treatment of conductive disorders such as dysaarythmias and to mitigate symptoms and dysfunction due to myocardial infarction, neurodegenerative disorders, chronic renal disorders, etc.[1] With soaring health care costs the patient's ability to manage their health condition with ease and convenience in the absence of their health care providers empowers patients to enhance their productivity and quality of life, and reduce the cost of care.[1] In addition to patient participation, leveraging technology drives better outcomes and empowers patients to lead a better quality of life which essentially is the true objective of "Personalized Medicine".[1] "Personalized Medicine" is a patented concept.[1] If you are interested as an investor or partner for "Personalized Medicine" please contact me at [email protected]

Alpha - Skew Pi - Armendariz Rings

    No full text
In this article we introduce a new concept called Alpha-skew Pi-Armendariz rings (Alpha - S Pi - AR)as a generalization of the notion of Alpha-skew Armendariz rings.Another important goal behind studying this class of rings is to employ it in order to design a modern algorithm of an identification scheme according to the evolution of using modern algebra in the applications of the field of cryptography. We investigate general properties of this concept and give examples for illustration. Furthermore, this paperstudy the relationship between this concept and some previous notions related to Alpha-skew Armendariz rings. It clearly presents that every weak Alpha-skew Armendariz ring is Alpha-skew Pi-Armendariz (Alpha-S Pi-AR). Also, thisarticle showsthat the concepts of Alpha-skew Armendariz rings and Alpha-skew Pi- Armendariz rings are equivalent in case R is 2-primal and semiprime ring. Moreover, this paper proves for a semicommutative Alpha-compatible ringR that if R[x;Alpha] is nil-Armendariz, thenR is an Alpha-S Pi-AR. In addition, if R is an Alpha - S Pi -AR, 2-primal and semiprime ring, then N(R[x;Alpha])=N(R)[x;Alpha]. Finally, we look forwardthat Alpha-skew Pi-Armendariz rings (Alpha-S Pi-AR)be more effect (due to their properties) in the field of cryptography than Pi-Armendariz rings, weak Armendariz rings and others. For these properties and characterizations of the introduced concept Alpha-S Pi-AR, we aspire to design a novel algorithm of an identification scheme

Science parks are created to support the development and growth of knowledge-based businesses and to foster the economic development of a region. Based on an exploratory qualitative study, this research project aims, firstly, to understand the expectations of businesses established in science parks, which is not very well documented in the literature and, secondly, to highlight the motivations of a business to settle in a science park. In order to do so, the research is based on a constructivist approach. Twelve semi-structured interviews were conducted between September 2016 and April 2017 with managers of organizations established in seven science parks in the province of Quebec, Canada. The analysis these interviews identified six major motivations of businesses to settle in a science park. It also revealed eleven major expectations of the science park's contributions for a business established. As a contribution, this research provides some recommendations not only for the managers of science parks, but also for the managers of businesses who want to be established in a science park. This research provides insights for science park managers about the incentives to set up to attract new business and about the support to provide for the business established in a science park in their development

Successful implementation of construction projects is one of the key factors for economic development of every country. Every year, a major part of the countries’ capital is allocated to civil and infrastructure projects, most of which are implemented with delay. Construction projects are often criticized for overrunning time and budgets. Analyzing the factors causing delay is essential with the aim of omitting them and timely implementation of these projects. Research to identify the reasons and causes of delays have been conducted in different countries and by various researches. In this paper, various research has studied different factors affecting construction projects delays have been studied. These factors have been identified in four groups consisted of owner, consultant, conductor, and other factors. Moreover, on account of the importance of oil and gas projects, the mentioned factors for these kinds of projects are taken into consideration. The results showed that change orders and changes in scope of work by owner, delay in reviewing of documents by consultant, inadequate experience and knowledge and errors during construction by contractor, and low productivity of laborer have been indicated as key factors comparing with the other as crucial factors causing delay in the oil and gas construction projects

Early-Age Behaviour of Fiber Reinforced High Performance Concretes

The aim of this experimental activity was to study the early-age behavior of several Fiber-Reinforced Concretes (FRCs) containing expansive agent. The investigation concerned the evaluation of the influence of different amounts of fibers (dosages of 2.0%, 1.75% and 1.5% by volume of FRCC) on the mechanical performance of FRCs. In particular, hooked brass-coated fibers were used and dead-burnt calcium oxide based expansive agent was employed at a dosage of 40 kg/m3. The attention was focused on the strength development at early ages. Mechanical tests were carried out at 0.25 (i.e. 6 hours, that is time of demolding), 1, 2, 7 up to 28 days of curing. The properties of FRCs were characterized at the fresh state, by measuring flow ability and consistency as well as at hardened state by measuring compressive and flexural strength up to 28 days. Flexural strength was measured on prismatic specimens according to the procedure described in EN 12390-5. The different dosage of fibers did not influence the values of compressive strength, while there is a significant difference in terms of 28-day flexural strength between the several mixtures depending on the different amount of fibers. In all cases at least 20 MPa of 28-day peak flexural strength were achieved

A Novel Approach for Enhancing Performance of VoD Systems

Multimedia applications such as Video-on-Demand (VoD), Live streaming, Internet stock quotes, Internet radio, audio/music delivery, video surveillance are of growing interest among general public. Existing systems that support these kinds of applications such as centralized server, independent server nodes, and proxy incur significant delay and serve only less number of videos. In this research, a multi-server system that utilizes a split and merge scheme is proposed to reduce the waiting time. This system helps us to achieve load balancing, while increasing the number of videos being served. Our simulation model consists of a single main multimedia server and a set of streaming servers. The performance of the proposed system for various K values is evaluated in the VoD scenario. The results show that the proposed multi-server scheme performs better in terms of initial latency and number of videos being served, compared to the other existing schemes. Using a Shading Tool to Reform Window designing due to Solar Radiation

Sun is the significant criterion that plays the most important role in architectural design. The sun's heat and radiation interact with the designed components of form and façade. These shading elements exhibit different expressions according to the structure orientation and the sun position. According to the climate of structure’s location, the expressions are being used to better respond to the environment in sustainable architecture. In order to get to this point, it is very important to calculate the shading geometry and solar energy during the day and to provide more suitable systems in glass and window designing.  According to this, in order to arrive at more suitable shading systems by supporting MATLAB program, the software is written by taking the previous works as basis and closing some of their mistakes. According to the climate data, this program takes the plan drawings of window’s zone and some other information of window, the annual shading simulations are presented.  Due to these simulations incident solar radiation of window, essential element of cooling load increasing in summer calculated. Furthermore window designing will be occurred by these simulations. So for the future works the user can import the glass or other datum of window or shading monument to design more efficiency
