    Get PDF
The main objective of this article is to show the opportunities that can open up for African cities from the UNESCO MIL Cities approach. The methodology used was the theoretical-practical based on the bibliographical review and the narrative of the authors\u27 experiences. MIL Cities is a UNESCO framework that speaks of the need to build or reform urban spaces so that they use new technologies but using them ethically and respectfully for vulnerable groups, transcending cultural barriers to communication and contributing to the objectives of the 2030 agenda. The article has three parts. The first part insists on the definition of the MIL Cities concept, its origin and the preliminary work that has been done to support its implementation. An exhaustive explanation is given of the 13 Indicators and 252 metrics of MIL Cities published by Chibás Ortiz and other authors. The creation of the UNESCO World Network of MIL Cities is discussed. The second part explains the role of metrics in the evaluation of MIL projects in towns and cities. This second part focuses also on the practical implementation strategies and cases deployed to spread the concept and its objectives. A particular emphasis is placed on the various webinars organized and their format though the whole world. This part summarizes actions and events taken to promote the initiative. The third part focuses on the Latin America & Africa MIL Cities initiative. In this last section, the article focuses on the launch of the project and on the objectives to be achieved to develop MIL Cities in Africa. It highlights the countries involved in the project launch activities, the promotional strategies to be deployed to disseminate the concept to all countries on the continent. It is concluded that the MIL Cities framework opens up new possibilities for the growth and development for African cities

EARLY DETECTION OF FACTORS, INCLUDING PANDEMICS AND DISASTERS, LEADING TO LANGUAGE ENDANGERMENT: THINKING STATISTICALLY

    Get PDF
The target of this research work is to use a statistical technique on different languages to identify significant factors of endangered languages with similar characteristics to build a model for language endangerment. Factor analysis is used to identify factors. The factors are used to construct a model with and without interaction terms. First three variables (i.e. speakers, longitude and latitude) are analyzed to identify two factors and then these three variables and three interaction terms are used to construct the model. Different variables were identified and a model with and without interaction terms is built using the identified factors. The result shows that the model has significant predictive power. The predictors were retrieved from the dataset. The outcome encourages future studies towards defining techniques of language endangerment prediction for analyzing factors of language endangerment

Relevance of Integrity, Morality and Ethics in the Contemporary World: Learnings from Shrimad Bhagavad Gita

    Get PDF
Integrity is apparently a matter of choice between what is right and what is easy. It manifests itself in everything one does- thoughts, behaviour and actions. It is more related to one’s everyday behaviour, both covert or overt and decision making. The word integrity is considered to have been originated from the French word ‘integrite or integre’, Latin integritas or integras, English integer or integrate, which conceptually means being intact and indicates wholesomeness and completeness of inner self and most importantly uprightness. Morality has its origin from Latin word ‘Mos’, which means customs. The term Ethics has been derived from the Greek word ‘Ethos’ meaning character. Integrity is more than a concept and certainly far beyond being a mere cliché. Integrity is more than morality and ethics, for these two are acclaimed externally and adhere to societal expectations of one’s conduct. Integrity, on the other hand is intrinsic in nature and is an internal state of being, an enduring personal commitment to honour moral and ethical values for moral reflection. Together, they are like a beacon that sails us through the tough turbulent currents of moral and ethical dilemmas, guiding us through states of internal and external conflicts by illuminating the path of honesty, truth, justice, and compassion

A Study on Comparative Analysis of Major Stock Indices of World

    Get PDF
Experts talk lots on integration of major stock indices of the world. In this research paper researcher has tried to establish integration between major stock indices of the world by calculating correlation and applying anova on daily return of 16 major stock indices of the world. In research it is found that preceding and succeeding time of opening the stock market plays vital roles in terms of effect on each other. To achieve the objectives of research, last 5 years daily closing price of these 16 indices is collected and analyzed for quantifying the level of correlation between different stock indices. As sufficient time period is taken and daily closing prices are analyzed so it is found there is not significant difference in the daily return of these stock indices

    Dark Energy and Cosmological Model

    Get PDF
Today the space of our universe is filled with invisible stuff matter which expanding under the action of gravity which was dark matter. In 1990’s astronomical observation and theoretical calculation was leading astrophysicists to believe that not only the dark matter but also there is vacuum empty space filled in universe that is dark energy. It is suggested that the apparently disparate cosmological phenomenon attributed to so called “dark matter” and dark energy arise from quantum level of space -time itself. This creation of space time results in metric expansion. A recent modification of Einstein’s theory of general relativity by Chadwick, Hodgkinson and McDonald incorporate space time expansion. Recent evidence predicts that apparent amount of dark matter increases with age of universe. In addition proposal leads to the same result for the small but non-vanishing cosmological constant, related to dark energy

The aim of the present study was to compare the Mental Toughness between successful and unsuccessful athletes in Track and Field. A total of 100 track and field athlete’s aged ranged from 18 to 25 yrs. was randomly selected during all India Inter-university athletic meet. The participant included 50 successful athletes who have won any medal in all India inter-university throughout their life and 50 unsuccessful athletes who have not won a single medal in any of the competition in all India university level. A questionnaire developed by (PPI; Loehr, 1986) Mental toughness: Psychological Performance Inventory was used to assess the mental toughness of successful and unsuccessful athletes in Track and Field. The obtained data was analyzed by using statistical software (SPSS 17 version). The mean, standard deviation along with t-test has been functional to ensure the difference between samples mean of two group i.e. successful and unsuccessful athletes in track and field at a level of significance 0.05 and after analyzed the obtained data it was found that the mental toughness of successful athletes is comparatively higher than unsuccessful athletes in Track and Field

Sindh is a multilingual province with Sindhi as its official language (Abbasi, 2017) and Sindhi is the third most common language spoken in Pakistan. (Census, 2017). However, in the cities of the Sindh province, Urdu the national language, is widely spoken is in constant competition with other regional languages (Ali, 2017). Due to rapid urbanization and modernization, different communities are shifting to cities for better economic conditions. This study explores linguistic trends by investigating the language used by young Sindhi speakers in the city of Karachi and has used Fishman’s domain model (1971). The domain identifies the use of language in different settings between a range of interlocutors and the purpose of communication between interlocutors. The methodology used to collect data was both questionnaire and observation. The results indicates that the use of other languages-Urdu and English is often noted in various domains. Even within the home domain Sindhi speakers are frequently using ‘the other tongue’. This study encourages researchers to study language choices in contact situations in the urban cities of Pakistan
