The Worth of Forensic Psychology: A Review of the BRACE Character Profile as Prospects of Criminal Profiling
This paper showed that a prospects of criminal profiling based critical review of the BRACE character profile because potential of violent and serial crime is a growing concern in Indonesia and elsewhere. The BRACE Character Profile is a powerful analytical tool that is designed to profile the core human nature of a known or unknown subject (UNSUB), and provides a rich narrative of a subject’s profile across three domains, namely cognitive, behavioral, and existential motivational. The objectives of the current study are to briefly address the potential of offender profiling and current shortcomings, introduce the BRACE Character Profile instrument, and explain the rationale and basic methodology. A common criticism that can be addressed by the BRACE methodology is the reported lack of scientific grounding, empirically evidence, and standardization of narrative type profiles, and the “one size fits all” approach of actuarial profiling methods. The methodology has had exposure in forensic scale activities of UNSUB profiling, psychological autopsies, cold case reviews, interrogation strategy, risk of violence determination, and defense or prosecutor strategy, but the need to qualify the usefulness in each area has to be addressed to ensure practical effectiveness and evidentiary acceptability, and entrench the methodology more widely.
Knowledge as an Antecedent Variable of Intention to Use Islamic Banking Product
This study aims to examine the role of knowledge as an antecedent variable of intention to use Islamic banking products. By multistage random sampling method, a total of 240 respondents were taken as samples. The data was collected by distributing questionnaires to selected respondents. They were asked to fill out the questionnaire with the guidance of a research assistant, so if there are any questions that are not understood by the respondents can be described directly. Structural Equation Modeling is used in the data analysis to test the validity, reliability, and hypotheses. Validity and reliability test showed that almost all question items used as a measurement variable has a high value. Only three of the 30 questionnaire items were dropped because they have low validity. The results of the hypothesis test showed that all of the five hypotheses proposed are supported (p <0.01). Knowledge is an antecedent variable of intention to use of Islamic banking products. (1) Knowledge has a positive relationship with attitudes towards Islamic banking products. (2) Knowledge has a positive relationship with the intention to use of Islamic banking products. (3) The attitude mediates the relationship between knowledge and the intention to use of Islamic banking products. (4) A positive attitude will have a positive impact on intention to use Islamic banking products. (5) Social norms will give positive effect to the intention to use Islamic banking products. These results have implications for Islamic banking institutions to improve the dissemination of Islamic banking products.
Leadership Practices of Head Nurses: A Literature Review
Purpose: To explore the concept of leadership and the leadership practices of head nurses. Method: Literature review on articles retrieved from electronic databases was conducted. Effective leadership can enhances and play significant role in organizational performance. Head nurses play critical roles in health care organizations; therefore, they need to demonstrate leadership abilities. Head nurses who have leadership abilities can influence people toward the achievement of the organizational goals. Otherwise, head nurses should perform their leadership through implementation of the following five practices based on Kouzes and Posner (2001) which include: (1) challenging the process, (2) inspiring a shared vision, (3) enabling to act, (4) modeling the way, and (5) encouraging the heart. Therefore, nursing leaders must be aware of their important roles in taking the lead to face challenge in the modern health care service and can change everywhere they need to implement an effective leader in health care environment. Conclusion: This paper provided leadership of head nurses is very important to our nursing professions and changing health care organization. It is essential review the concept of leadership and leadership practices for exploring the performance leadership practices of head nurses.
A Close Look at the Process of Shaping Students' Contribution: A Case in Thai Trainee Teacher's Classroom
The present study aimed at describing the process of performed by a Thai trainee teacher during her teaching practice. The data were obtained from the teacher-The recordings were analyzed until the selected extracts were found and transcribed. The transcription of the selected extracts was then analyzed using Conversational Analysis (CA) approach through next-turn proof procedureon determining the process of shaping , the study revealed that there are several strategies used by the teacher, such as seeking clarification, scaffolding, modeling (as a part of scaffolding), recast (with repetition and additional information), and noncorrective recast. In other words, the manifestation of shaping mentioned by Walsh (2006) is also found in the present study. The findings of this small scale-study are expected to become a good stepping stone for a better understanding of the process of shaping mong Thai teachers in general and trainee teachers, in particular.
Performance Comparison of Turbulence Models for Predicting Axial and Tangential Velocities in a Cyclone Separator
This paper presents the results obtained from the application of a computational fluid dynamics (C F D) calculation to predicting the flow field, particularly axial and tangential velocities, of a cyclone separator. A pre-processor software GAMBIT was employed to set up the configuration, discretisation, and boundary conditions of the cyclone. The characteristics of the cyclone being studied was 0.2 m in diameter, receiving a gas flow rate of 0.1 m3/s with a particle mass loading of 0.01 kg/m3. A commercial CFD code FLUENT 6.2.16 was employed to simulate the flow field and particle dynamics in the cyclone. The objective of this research was to investigate the performance of several turbulence models towards the prediction of axial and tangential velocities in the cyclone. A number of five turbulence models under Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) category, including Spallart- Allmaras, standard k---model, and Reynolds Stress Model (RSM) were examined in the simulation. The validation of all calculation was performed by comparing the predicted results in terms of axial and tangential velocities, against experimental data of a Lapple cyclone taken from literature. Predictions of axial and tangential velocities at for each turbulence model were performed at three positions in the cyclone, i.e.: 1.5 D, 2.0 D and 3.25 D. Results of the simulation shows that the tangential velocity governs the flow field outside of the centre-line of the cyclone, forcing the particle towards to the wall and causing the particles to fall towards to the cones region for collection. On the other hand, the axial velocity dominates the flow field in the centre line of the cyclone, especially closer to the outlet pipe! Among five turbulence models being tested in this study, it was observed that the RSM is the most suitable one to represent the flow field and particle dynamics inside the cyclone separator
Korean Wave and Potential Impacts on Indonesian Adolescents and Other ASEAN Countries
Korean Wave or Hallyu is a phenomenon of Korean pop culture spread throughout the world including Southeast Asia countries. The Korean Wave is carried by drama and music in television, DVD, magazine, newspaper or internet. According Cognitive Theory, media can affect audienobservational learning. The process are learning the behavior, observing the model and modeling via the media that facilitates the social diffusion of ideas, values and behaviors occurs. However, the behavior is not influenced by media only, they also have ability to consider and choose their own behavior. Consuming, look like behavior, learning the culture and getting closer to the stars are potential behaviors among Indonesian adolescents. However, there are limited literatures on impacts of Korean wave to dating/sexual behavior and drinking behavior among adolescents but we must also give concern on it and suggest for further research. Indonesia and Southeast Asia countries may realize the strength of drama and music to break the distance. Those ways could introduce culture each other among ASEAN countries and using social learning mechanism to as well as deliver health messages. For instance healthy diet, reproductive health, alcoholism and plastic surgery effects, etc.
Interactive Multimedia as an Effective learning Media for Family Nursing Care Subject
The purpose of this study is to notice the effectiveness of using interactive multimedia on family nursing care to the result of student learning by the nursing student over the program. This study was using quasy experiment design (one group pretest-posttest design). The sample of this study was the nursing students over the program in University of Riau which was including 50 respondents. The instrument was using questioner in multiple choices about family nursing care. Data analyzes both in univariate and bivariate which was using T- dependent test. The result showed that majority score of students before learning process using interactive multimedia was in score group: C (40%) and E (26%) and then after the learning process, majority score of students was in score group A (50%) and B (32%). The result concluded that the mean group before and after using interactive multimedia was different significantly (p value=0,000). The differentiation of the mean before and after using interactive multimedia was 26,3. Hopefully the interactive multimedia can be used as an alternative media in another nursing subject.
Introducing Paprozilin : A New Concept of Superior Paddy Focussing on Production, Nutrition, and Salinity Tolerance For Solving Food Security in ASEAN
Food security is an important problem around the globe especially in ASEAN. The large amount of famished people and a great deal of malnutrition are concerned cases in ASEAN. The demand of paddy is significantly higher than its production. Many ASEAN countries have large coastal areas. As the consequences, ASE A N counties have quite high saline area. Gradually it becomes an important problem considering that the low production of paddy is caused by the high salinity content in the land. On the top of it, we are dealing with the fact that the contents of paddy nutrition must be increased for community welfare. Advances in science and technology enable a combination of crossbreeding to assemble the best variety of paddy. Triple way hybridization is one of the conventional methods of paddy breeding. Aek Sibundong has a lot of nutritional benefit. Fatmawati has higher production than any other variety. Also, Banyuasin has greater tolerance to salinity. Triple crossing between Fatmawati, Banyuasin, and Aek Sibundong will produce the newest type of paddy that has the highest production and some nutrition substances for health aspects, and saline tolerance. Therefore, Paprozilin will have positive impact both of improving food sustainability and economic stability in ASEAN.
The Congruity of Social Science Subject's Curriculum Content with the Ability of Mentally Retarded Children in Inclusive Elementary Schools
The research is based on (a) the research result of the prevalence of children with special needs in inclusive elementary school at Boyolali Central Java. It is known that 939 children are children with special needs (CWSN). Most CWSN are slow- learning children (85.19%), children with learning difficulties (4.6%), mild mental retardation (3.51%), behavior disturbances (1.8%) and autism (1.5%), visual impairment (1.33%), physical handicap (1.06%), speech defect (0.74%), hearing impairment (0.21%) and other types of CWSN. These children need more attention and special treatment according to their abilities and handicap. (b) Regular schoolteachers have difficulties in intervention for children with special needs (CWSN). The teachers for inclusive education in primary schools also experience the difficulties. This is because the teachers do not have adequate knowledge and skills yet in identification, assessment, planning and implementation of CWSN intervention program. curriculum content with the ability of mentally retarded children in inclusive elementary schools. The research is to describe: (a) the percentage of competency standard congruity rate of social science subject in inclusive elementary schools, and (b) the percentage of basic competence congruity of social science subject in inclusive elementary schools. The research is conducted in inclusive elementary schools in Boyolali, Central Java with teachers from 30 inclusive schools purposely assigned as the subject of this research. The data of the research are collected by questionnaire. The data is analyzed using quantitative descriptive with percentage technique. The result of this research can be conluded that most of the competency standard and basic competence in social science subject in inclusive elementary schools were appropriate with the ability of mentally retarded children. The higher the grade of the class, the less appropriate, the basic competence could be. It is suggested that teachers make adjusment between the basic competence and the stud
National Unity, Social Class, and Family Values Seen from the Use of Surname: A Comparison Study of Korean and Javanese Society
This paper aims to compare the use the surname in Javanese society (in Indonesia) and Korean society. In Korean society the naming system and the use of surname is fixed and there is not much changing from time to time, besides there is a unique pattern that one third of Koreans have Kim, Lee, and Park as their surnames. Meanwhile in Javanese society the surname usage pattern is random, most Javanese do not have or use surname which can be useful to identify from which family they come from and for those who have one the naming system is strongly influenced by Western, Arab, or other culture like Chinese. This paper is a qualitative research by using secondary data in the perspective of postcolonial and nationalism theory. The findings show that behind the surname usage changes there are issues of national unity, social class division, and the friction of family values.
