    Digital Writing in French as a Foreign Language Handbooks: Exploring the Tasks and Challenges

    This research focuses on the teaching of French as a Foreign Language (FFL) and seeks to analyse the types of writing tasks proposed, notably those that concern digital writing, as well as the challenges encountered in a corpus of seven sets of FFL training materials published between 2010 and 2016. We attempt to respond to the following question: How are Web 2.0. technologies integrated into the writing tasks in the corpus of these handbooks? We first analyse the digital writing tasks proposed before assessing how they are integrated within actual lessons. We then evaluate the objectives of these writing tasks. The analysis of the 101 writing instructions reveals that learners are invited to carry out 88 simulated digital writing tasks (instead of “real life” and multimodal tasks). At a time when learners are living in a world of multimodal texts, authors of FFL handbooks have not yet begun to take into account available research findings relative to the relationship between literacy and digital technology to implement, within FFL classes, digital writing lessons that take all these dimensions into account

    Possible Application of Virtual Reality in Geography Teaching

    Virtual reality represents simulated three-dimensional environment created by hardware and software, which providing realistic experience and possibility of interaction to the end-user. Benefits provided by immersive virtual reality in educational setting were recognised in the past decades, however mass application was left out due to the lack of development and high price. Intensive development of new platforms and virtual reality devices in the last few years started up with Oculus Rift, and subsequently accelerated in the year 2014 by occurrence of Google Cardboard. Nowadays, for the first time in history, immersive virtual reality is available to millions of people. In the mid 2015 Google commenced developing Expeditions Pioneer Program aiming to massively utilise the Google Cardboard platform in education. Expeditions and other VR apps can enhance geography teaching and learning. Realistic experience acquired by utilisation of virtual reality in teaching process significantly overcome possibilities provided by images and illustrations in the textbook. Besides literature review on usage of virtual reality in education this paper presents suggestion of VR mobile apps that can be used together with the Google Cardboard head mounted displays (HMDs) in geography classes, thereby emphasising advantages and disadvantages as well as possible obstacles which may occur in introducing the immersive virtual reality in the educational process

    The study of the processes involved in the creation of a work of art has been the focus of numerous complex theories which continue to find new interpretations in an attempt to reflect the emerging innovative forms of visual arts. Theory and history of art are an ever-changing field of ideas and interpretations of the processes of art creation and discussions about the definition of what constitutes a „work of art“. Works of art have a special social significance as they are an integral part of the culture of a society. They reflect the esthetic and artistic values of the time in which they were created, and the style and changes it undergoes in time. The interpretation of a work of art has always been a kind of improvisation, which however requires esthetic empirical evidence and professional expertise in the respective type of art

    FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS OF BRACON HEBETOR VENOM ON TARGET AND NON-TARGET INSECT CELL LINES

    Insect cell cultures are widely used in studies of insect cell physiology, toxicology, developmental biology and microbial pathology. The lethal effects of crude venom extracted from the ectoparasitic wasp Bracon hebetor were examined with three cultured insect cell lines; Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf9), Tribolium castaneum (TcA) and Aedes aegypti (Aag-2). Venom caused cells to round-up, swell and eventually die. Despite similar sensitivities and overlapping LC50 values [(0.00125-0.00695) venom reservoir equivalents (VRE)/µl], significant differences were noted at the onset of cytotoxicity among the three insect cell lines. Cells from the Tribolium castaneum (TcA) and Aedes aegypti (Aag-2) showed little sensitivity to the venom: 0.0046 VRE were needed to induce 50% mortality in TcA [50% lethal concentration (LC50) = 0.0046 VRE/µl], and 0.0069 VRE were needed to induce 50% mortality in Aag-2 [50% lethal concentration (LC50) = 0.0069 VRE/µl). Over 80% of the Sf9 cells were nonviable within 1 h after the addition of an LC99 dose of venom, whereas the other cells required a 5-10-fold longer incubation period to produce mortality above 50%

    CONTRIBUTION TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE FAUNA OF CYNIPID GALL WASPS ON THE TERRITORY OF BELGRADE (SERBIA)

    In studying the fauna of cynipid gall wasps of Belgrade and its environs during the period from 1997 to 2016, we recorded a total of 46 species from four tribes (Aylacini, Cynipini, Diastrophini and Diplolepidini) and 12 genera (Andricus, 27 species; Diplolepis, 5 species; Cynips, 3 species; Neuroterus, 3 species; Diastrophus, 2 species; Aphelonyx, 1 species; Barbotinia, 1 species; Biorhiza, 1 species; Callirhytis, 1 species; Chilaspis, 1 species; Dryocosmus, 1 species; and Pseudoneuroterus, 1 species). The following species are here recorded as new for the Serbian fauna of cynipid gall wasps: Diastrophus mayri Reinhard,1876; D. rubi (Bouche, 1834); Andricus aries (Giraud, 1859); A. conificus (Hartig, 1834); A. gallaeurnaeformis (Boyer de Fonscolombe, 1832); A. grossulariae Giraud, 1859; A. inflator Hartig, 1840; A. superfetationis (Giraud, 1859); Callirhytis glandium (Giraud, 1859); and Chilaspis nitida (Giraud, 1859). For all the recorded species, we give the localities, dates and hosts on which they were found in Belgrade and its environs

    NEW AND INTERESTING RECORDS OF ORTHOPS FIEBER 1858 (HEMIPTERA: HETEROPTERA: MIRIDAE) IN TURKEY

    This study is based on material of the genus Orthops Fieber 1858 collected from different localities in Turkey between 1983 and 2014, mostly 2006-2014. In the genus Orthops Fieber, 1858, six species are known from Turkey, including Orthops (Montanorthops) forelii Fieber, 1858, O. (M.) montanus (Schilling, 1838), O. (Orthops) basalis (A. Costa, 1853), Orthops (O.) campestris (Linnaeus, 1758), O. (O.) frenatus Horváth, 1894 and O. (O.) kalmii (Linnaeus, 1758). Orthops (Orthops) frenatus Horváth, 1894, is a new record for Turkish fauna. In this paper, diagnoses, distribution data and illustrated keys to the genera and species are provided. In addition, new localities are added for some species previously reported for Turkey

    A CONTRIBUTION TO QUANTITATIVE REPRESENTATION AND DISTRIBUTION OF EPITRIX HIRTIPENNIS (MELSHEIMER, 1847) (COLEOPTERA: CHRYSOMELIDAE, ALTICINI) ON TOBACCO

    Epitrix hirtipennis (Melsheimer, 1847) causes damage to tobacco plants throughout the growing season. The most severe damages were observed in the first three weeks after tobacco transplanting. It is very difficult for damaged plants to adapt after transplanting, often resulting in their death. The study was conducted in 2013-2014 in several villages in the southeast and Pelagonia region of the Republic of Macedonia, where tobacco is an abundant crop. During 2013, the major attack was registered in June on sand leaves (3212), bottom leaves (2584), and first middle leaves (1905), with the pest population gradually decreasing on second middle leaves (1218), third middle leaves (894), lower top leaves (649) and top leaves (411). The major attacks in 2013 were determined in Budakovo and Desovo. In 2014, the most intense attack of E. hirtipennis was in Konce on sand leaves with an average of 40.86%, and the average in all regions was 35.71%. The percentage of attacked bottom leaves and first middle leaves was on average 10.55%

    THE OCCURRENCE OF POTENTIALLY HARMFUL MOTHS IN SOMBOR AND ČELAREVO (SERBIA) IN 2016 AND FORECAST FOR 2017

    A light trap, type RO Agrobečej, was used in 2016 for recording the presence of moths at localities in Sombor and Čelarevo. The trap was operational from the beginning of April to mid-October. Altogether over 38000 moths were collected. More than 180 species were identified. A significantly smaller frequency of moth species, in comparison to multi-annual averages, was recorded for the species Loxostege sticticalis, Ostrinia nubilalis, Autographa gamma, Helicoverpa armigera, Spodoptera exigua, Agrotis ipsilon, A. segetum and Hyphantria cunea. The number of recorded specimens of the species Lacanobia oleracea was below average in Sombor, but above average in Čelarevo. A significantly larger number of moths, compared to multi-annual averages, was recorded for the species Mamestra brassicae and Agrotis exclamationis. According to Mészáros (1963), the brood coefficient was more than 1 for the species Lacanobia oleracea, A. exclamationis, A. segetum and H. cunea. For these species, there is a positive forecast for 2017. Damage caused by the first brood can be expected from L. oleracea on crucifer and sugar beet production, A. exclamationis on late sown corn, and also on watermelon, crucifers, pepper, tomato and eggplant when seedlings are taken outdoors. The abundance of H. cunea is low, so damages from the first brood are expected on mulberry and walnut. The numerousness of A. segetum is low, so no significant damages are expected, i.e. damages in 2017 can occur only locally
